What does this stompbox do? Johnny DeMarco demonstrates the octave pedal and shows how to get the most from this unique effect whether recording in the studio or playing live with the band.
I have been watching all these and just now realized he hasn't interrupted himself with a sponsor, nor a call to like subscribe and hit the bell icon so we know when he uploads another video that you definitely don't want to miss.
Such a well spoken man, taking great measure to enunciate each syllable properly and in a polite, formal manner. But then picks up an Axe, and gives this guitar face 3:37 (Barney Gumble going for a schooner?) ...amongst some choice, disturbing others! 😂
Definitely choice... Let it play @2:46 - 47 He looks like he just mainlined an entire bag of high grade H when he starts feeling his fretboard fix! Lmao
I don't think it's cheating in any way. Jack white from whitestripes did it in Seven nation army and it's one of the most iconic bass riffs of all time and ironically he didn't record it with a bass.
Yeah, he's using the "Mid-West Madman Modulator" on his microphone, equipped with a foot switch which provides the ability to go from mellow to madman in the blink of an eye.😆
Metal musicians are chilled dudes. The nicest musicians I ever met were the dudes from Malignant Monster. I left the lights on with my Honda Prelude, and they called around to help me get started.
😆 I just left a comment saying the same thing, definitely picking up major Bob Ross vibes from this guy, lol. He's got some hot, heavy and "happy little licks."
These videos are brilliant. They're the first in which someone actually explains what the pedals do and how. Not just sayin "if you push the button your guitar will sound really cool and go like this". PLus he´s an amazing player
Lmao... This guy is cool as fck! He's like the Bob Ross of the guitar world, he loves to show off his "happy little chords" and lightning fast licks. 😂
which are the best, most versatile ones that do the most octaves and also are good for playing chords, and solos, and not too expensive? Can you test several different ones and come up with what you believe are the best ones for the money, similar in price to this one, maybe? I know I am throwing tons of questions at you, but I am totally serious and sincere about getting this stuff right, before buying more stuff..very limited budget, like most musicians..
The shit thing doesn't track above the 12th fret on the e though. And I'm going to post this on every video, so please reply if this is just my box that has this problem.
@loganbramhall1989 Maybe the title EFFECTS 101 make the assumption that this is like a "teaching" video. I would attend to one of his music classes if he offered one ! :3 (Maybe BOSS told them to behave this time) xD
are all octave pedals fuzz octaves? every time I ask about an octave pedal they call it a fuzz octave.. I am just learning about these pedals.. I play a Fender Strat, but I can only afford a Marshall JCM 2000 dsl 40 watt combo now, not a head and cabinet.. so it has one speaker. It has great gain, but not a huge this growly bass tone or real thick high notes.. I am looking to get a real huge Hendrix-Stevie Ray type tone.. not a scratchy generic metal tone.. I want it to be a real thick emotional tone.. real huge.. Is the octave pedal the one to do that? I also just got a used boss e q pedal and I have a harmonist, delay, chorus, fuzz face.. there is reverb in the amp.. so will an octave pedal make it get a real huge Hendrix type super huge tone? What did he use it for? Was that the reason he used it, to thicken up the tone? The one he used was an octave fuzz also right? Do they make any that are not octave fuzz? If so which is better? I am just now learning about this, trying to find the best way to get that huge tone, but I am on a small budget, can not afford a head and cabinet..so what to do??
No, just some. All octave pedals obviously do octaves, some have more range than others, but not all do fuzz. You'll find the fuzz feature more common on bass octave pedals.
OK.. I do not play bass, just 6 string guitar.. which one would do the most for say, a Fender Stratocaster, to help give a real thick monster tone, but not change the great Strat tone, too much. I love the Strat tone but it tends to be too small and thin, without much bass, if nothing is added to the mix at all...so what is the best thing to help with this? ..
Michael Craig I'm not 100% sure. I say try a few out. Are you using single coils or humbuckers, what amp are you using, closed or open back speaker cab, etc? There are a lot of factors that may be a better solution for your wants than a harmony pedal. We have a private group on Facebook, and you're more than welcome to ask there with our community. I'm sure you'll get a lot of feedback from the whores. Our private group is called Guitar Whores GROUPies. We also have a main Facebook Page, but the GROUPies is where the community can post questions. - Zach -
the top message.. has my guitar info.. and amp info..single coil, Marshall JCM 40 watt tube DSL, closed back one speaker combo amp..made in England, not a Vietnam special.
Michael Craig You sure it's completely closed back? I have one too, but mine has metal grill above and below a piece of wood. Anyway, it's strange because the DSL40 I have has great bass response. Personally, i like the Whammy DT for running octaves because it does so much.
He's so calm and then he just fricken shreds at the end!
He describes everything with such a calm demenor. Then shreds like a madman 3 bikies deep. With a mean case of the gurns. Its mesmerizing...
johnny is so chill, gotta love it
You can tell this dude really loves playing guitar.
He’s just demoing pedals and having the time of his life it seems
Johnny is my dad
He needs an evil mask and dreads though.
What guitar is this one?
Kirk Mustaine?
Dave Hammet?
I have been watching all these and just now realized he hasn't interrupted himself with a sponsor, nor a call to like subscribe and hit the bell icon so we know when he uploads another video that you definitely don't want to miss.

I never really cared much about pedals until these lessons. Thank you for putting these out there, Johnny!
You can say that's one way to advertise sum Roland product XD
These are the best videos on the internet. 😂😂 I never go anywhere else when I want to learn about a pedal
great video showing actual applications of the pedal!!!! Thanks
Is it cheating if I use an octaver on my guitar instead of buying a bass? I kind of want to start recording but don't have a bass. .w.
I was thinking the same
I don't think it's cheating in any way. Jack white from whitestripes did it in Seven nation army and it's one of the most iconic bass riffs of all time and ironically he didn't record it with a bass.
Asian Noodle Boy Wait, really? I didn't know about that.
Thanks for your answer. :D
You should check out the live versions of Seven Nation army it's pretty good. No problemo Fizzy ^^
if the tools are available why not use them?
look at all these happy pedals
Let's throw down some "happy little licks" over this track, lol.
This dude is so entertaining 3:36.
Joni de marcou
JAJAJAJAJAJA
😁👍
3:39 That tongue though lmao
Johnny you the man! The pedal is awesome, but man I just love watching you play!
I f*cking love Johnny DeMarco.
wow he actually has an octaver for his mic
rofl
What
rofl
Yeah, he's using the "Mid-West Madman Modulator" on his microphone, equipped with a foot switch which provides the ability to go from mellow to madman in the blink of an eye.😆
I really like this guy's explanations , very accurate n' fast, thanks for the videos Mr. Jhonny DeMarco
His mild demeanor is pretty misleading. He's an undercover heavy metaler.
Metal musicians are chilled dudes. The nicest musicians I ever met were the dudes from Malignant Monster. I left the lights on with my Honda Prelude, and they called around to help me get started.
The most Calmest Dude .
dont mess w/ johnny demarco
Anyone else clicked on this video thinking he was Kirk Hammet?
It looks like Dave Mustaine fused with Kirk Hammet
u racist fam
Yes ;D
YEEEEAAAH
Yup.
even if you already know this i find it helpful and fun to still watch
He may seem strange, but he is a great guitarist.
He doesn't seem strange.
The dude is like a Bob Ross on guitar gear reviews. Shred the devil out of that guitar
😆 I just left a comment saying the same thing, definitely picking up major Bob Ross vibes from this guy, lol. He's got some hot, heavy and "happy little licks."
Thanks Johnny!
I so much needed a review of what all those effects actually do :)
Im really impressed with this one or atleast this demo
Mac DeMacrco's also super chill brother who never made in the music industry
Yess 😂
Why does this dude sound like he's gonna chop me up and keep my body parts in his basement freezer?
What a beautiful guitar man
BRB, selling my basses.
I love this guy(no homo)
I want this pedal now, originally I was thinking of getting a standard distortion pedal but this one has so much more
This guy single handedly made the Parker Fly cool again
These videos are brilliant. They're the first in which someone actually explains what the pedals do and how. Not just sayin "if you push the button your guitar will sound really cool and go like this". PLus he´s an amazing player

HOLY SHIT, that was the best demo impro ever O_O @3:02
This dude is chill
who needs a bass player now? Just kidding, Love you bass people
his voice is so creepily calming
Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Bob Ross!
......Then your bass player gets one and destroys everything in your house.....
This might work for Death Metal
Yo, nice videos, love your playing thx a lot! Peace)
I want that octave pedal to play secret garden nocturne theme.
@myspacceer my bassist just bought a octivter pedal for his bass and it sounds AMAZING
sweet I like that. Will buy one as soon as I can (kinda never)
@RiverOfSteel Some of them sound really cool. I use a Morpheus DropTune on mine and it can sound like a real bass.
That example @ 3:02 is badass.
love the vids btw
@TheKaiserChamp Off hand it looks like a Parker Fly.
@myspacceer
Its been used on bass since the 70s man.
hes so fly
Is everyone with DeMarco as their last name is so fucking chilled out? :D
Dude looks like Simply Red, subbed.
3:04 SICK BRO!
This is a lesson format video, so he is being more articulate than in some of his amp demo vids, where the whole point is to go crazy.
The Greatest American Hero for sure!
3:35 Baby!!
This guy, first he looks completely stoned out of his mind and in the next moment , he's ripping me out of my mind !
Sick Parker Fly

what the name of the effect that is used at the end of November Rain song?
This guy's voice and guitar playing style aren't from the same planet.
@loganbramhall1989 its because he's not using his glasses
I genuinely thought this was Kirk Hammett in the thumbnail
cool
what are some must needed pedals? I like flanger and of course fuzz, distortion, sustain
Hey Johnny there is this clip that titles Johnny Demarco Parody I think it is mean but you have a look your else
What is one octave below on played or 2 octaves below? Im just a beginner and trying to learn. Thank you
true that
@myspacceer yeah man ive tried it with bass and it sounds like hell
This guy can sell snow. So persuasive!
Question: will that pedal track correctly the notes of my guitar to sound very low almost like a bass? Thanks!
OK.. what if you have it in poly mode, how would a guitar solo sound? How many octaves does it play in poly mode?
The shit thing doesn't track above the 12th fret on the e though.
And I'm going to post this on every video, so please reply if this is just my box that has this problem.
The distortion makes me think of CKY.
Joni de marcou
JAJAJAJAJAJAJA
Parker guitar + octaver! Yeah CKY!

hah sounds like chuck schuldiner with that. i need one now.
is the octaver the extended version of the pitch shifter?

@loganbramhall1989 they probably responded to all the haters :(
Johnny DeMarco is a human Qualude.
This guy could make asmr videos with his calm voice
Kirk Mustaine of Megallica
Johnny Demarco
@loganbramhall1989
Heroin.
this guy is a super guitarist, but he seems like he was high as fuck before shooting this video. that voice ! that look on his face !
Shit gets real at the 3:05 mark
wow its white kirk hammet

I want one ... but so damn expensive
do these pedals come with back ground music?
Nice man I own 4 parkers!
how would this sound on a 7 string guitar?
Which guitar is ?
Is their an octave pedal that can play several octaves at the same time???.....instead of 2 like the boss
You could buy two boss pedals?
Haha. That is what I was thinking.
3:37 rock face
