Is it really OK to use full synthetic vs synthetic blend as what ford recommended? Why did you change the oil at 2500 miles, is it not quite early? Thanks.
Thanks for your question! This is Amsoil Signature series. It is fully synthetic which is a step above full synthetic and it is extremely okay to use a fully synthetic over a blend that is recommended. Aslong as the oil meets the manufacturer specs, then its okay to use. This oil has the ford spec printed right on the label so it was okay to use. We changed it at 2500 as a break in change. So not only did we get rid of the majority of the break in debris out, we also went from a synthic blend to Amsoils Signature series which can go 15k miles no problem and is rated for 25k on a naturally aspirated engine like this one. So its gonna save you alot of money on just oil changes, plus less frequently changing the oil is a nice benefit as well. You are also getting a more stable oil at high temps, an oil the flows better at cooler temps and even with the long drain interval, your are not losing protection, durability, reliabilty or performance. Highly recommend their products.

Amsoil will always benefit any vehicle it is used in so I would recommend it whether you hear a difference or not. As far as your concerns go, depending on the type of ticking you are hearing, it my be the normal direct injection fuel pump/injector noise. As far as consumption goes, depending on why the vehicle is consuming oil, it is possible a higher quality lubricant like amsoil can make a difference and reduce the consumption depending on why the vehicle is consuming oil in the first place. Great video, and really cool that you respond to each comment. I assume you’re a Ford Tech by the depth of your knowledge in your responses. Question for you, I have a 2018 F150 5.0. It’s actually my third Coyote F150, but my first with the GEN III changes which includes the PTWA plasma process on the block instead of steel liners and, of course, the 10R80 transmission. I do most of the work on my own vehicles, and did notice above-normal oil consumption on my last change. (I run full synthetic and change every 5000 miles). Researched the issue in depth, and decided to replace PCV valve and switch to longer dipstick per TSB 19-2365. Obviously, couldn’t do the PCM reflash part of the TSB at home, but so far it looks like PCV change has worked as oil consumption (or lack thereof) has returned to normal. You mentioned LSPI as the expected cause of high oil consumption, but I have not heard of that until now. My reading suggested excessive vacuum as the culprit. If I run into the oil consumption problem again (hope I don’t), is TSB 19-2365 worth having done, or is there another fix I should be looking at?
Yes the TSB is worth having done. Another side effect of having low rpms is the increased duration period of a strong amount of vacuum is present in the manifold. The 10 speed keeps the rpms severely low unless you are basically over 65 or 70 percent throttle so with that much vacuum you are bound draw some oil vapors up to the negative pressure. As far as LSPI goes, certain oils promote it more depending on their make up and there for are consumed in the process because the oil vapors are entering the cylinder. The Amsoil featured in the video was 100 percent effective in eliminating LSPI, not 95.... not 98, but 100 percent.
What do you think about full synthetic royal purple or motorcraft 5w30 for 23 f150 5.0 I wanna do ams oil but it’s 2x the cost and I drive a lot , and the truck has a tune and boss 302 mani what would you recommend
The amsoil may cost 2x as much but it lasts 2x as long or longer. So it ends up being cheaper plus less work for you. Especially being tuned, Amsoil definitely
Nope, also by running Amsoil, it seems that most do not suffer these issues...not all but most. Its very high quality stuff. Well worth the price so thats why i became a dealer, so I could get a discount.
Nice truck your pops has there, I have a 19 platinum with the 3.5, definitely moving up to the amsoil next change. What's the oil life like? I live in Northern alberta Canada, the land of heavy oil 🛢. Curious to know how it runs in cold ass climates 🥶
He has done over 10k miles on the oil so far. No consumption, no issues. Rated for a minimum of 15k miles so its looking pretty good. The ecoboost fusion i have, I know its only a 4 cylinder but still turbocharged at least, I do 13k miles or so on the oil changes and I have 145k on it with not a single failure to speak of. As far as cold climates go, their oil still flows well into the negative temps, I've personally witnessed it pour out of a bottle after being subjected to 12 hours @ -40 F

When running the amsoil about every 14-15k miles. It's rated for 15k miles under severe service which the truck sees alotnof with towing and hauling and the oil holds up amazingly well. If you're using Motorcraft synthetic blend, based on my experience at the dealershit I would change thatbevery 2500-3k and the full synthetic youncan get away with about 5k. Using either will result in high maintenance costs because you are not only doing more oil changes which is annoying honeslty, but they don't protect nearly as well as Amsoil does.
Thank you. Glad I rewatched this video. I've been changing the filter last all this time, cuz I seen that on another video. I'll change the filter first now.
Nice video, but in the beginning you talk about "warming up" the oil to make it flow easier. I'm pretty sure cold oil flows better than hot (the 5 in 52-20.)
Thats the viscosity yes, but have you ever drained the oil out of a hot and cold engine? the oil comes out faster as well as carrying more contaminates with it when it's hot. Just food for thought.
So you are using 5w20? I'm sure you're aware of all the back and forth over 20 vs 30. Living in south florida I see the benefits of using 30 and also the reason ford switched to 20. I also read that a heavier oil may mess with phasers or have a harder time reaching some of the tighter/narrow parts of the engine. What are your thoughts?
10 points higher isn't going to do much at the end of the day in my opinion. I ran 0w30 on my Mustang 5.0 and it was great. My father lives in Ohio, the 20wt will be perfectly fine for the winter but it the summers it will not hurt to go back to a 30wt. I live in north Orlando so I know what you mean. I would run a 30et down here year round. Hope that answers your question!

No issues on the truck featured in the video. No fix yet all ford is doing is putting in a longer oil dipstick and adding more oil in the engine so it looks like the truck stop burning oil between changes.
@@jaygon2877 the blue truck in the video is not burning any oil. We decided to do this one at 2500 miles. This got the lower quality grade factory oil out of the truck and upgrading to Amsoil while also being a long enough time to get a good engine break in and get as much break in material out as possible.

Ford screwed the oil drain up… completely. That’s why there are so many aftermarket options available. You should be using full synthetic oil and the lower micron filter. Saving money is stupid at this time.

Thanks. I really appreciate the info, and the quick response. Subscribed.
@@J904-v6j thanks, I appreciate that! Good luck with the truck.
Any oil consumption yet, after oil change? Or any ticking issues?
Nope, also by running Amsoil, it seems that most do not suffer these issues...not all but most. Its very high quality stuff. Well worth the price so thats why i became a dealer, so I could get a discount.
Has it been using oil?
How's the transmission doing?
The 5.0 V8 has not been using oil and the 10R80 has been operating normally
@@THEDriverMod_
That's good to hear. Keep us updated.
The stuff works. If there's anything I can do to help, let me know. Let me know when you're ready to try it out and I'll let you order it at my price straight off the website as a courtesy
As far as cold climates go, their oil still flows well into the negative temps, I've personally witnessed it pour out of a bottle after being subjected to 12 hours @ -40 F
I have mine 2020 f150 5.0. And mine it does sound like a diesel truck lol. I was wondering if your do the same thing
They are alittle noisy but it's nothing crazy
What fluid would you recommend for the 10r80 transmission? I have a 2018 f150 5.0L as well.
I would recommend Amsoils Blue bottle line of ATF for the 10R80 and either their 5w20 or 5w30 engine oils. Signature series line if you want the absolute best. I appreciate the inquiry. Let me know if you would like my help placing your order. Would be happy to assist.
Great video, I have same 2020 f150 lariat. And just wondering if yours is using oil ?
See some of the other comment threads in this video. No it's not using oil, accredited to the higher quality amsoil featured in the video that protects 100% against LSPI which is a leading cause in oil consumption. Definitely use the link and switch over if you are not using their products.
@@THEDriverMod_ flawsome thanx
What is that you used to spray off the oil residue?
Just standard brake parts cleaner but I would recommend the Amsoil brake parts cleaner, its cheap, doesn't have a very heavy smell like most. Just follow the link in the description or my home page.
My question is unless I missed something, but why did you change the oil when it stated it had 74% oil life left?
It was it's first oil change so wanted to do somewhat of a break in oil change and 2nd, we wanted to get the motorcraft out and put the Amsoil in because it's a much better oil. Truck is still running strong with 60k miles, no consumption or issues
@@THEDriverMod_ ok cool, that makes more sense now. If you explained that in the video then I must've missed it, my apologies, bit thanks for the explanation. I plan on using the same oil in my "new to me" 2020 F-150 XL SXT FX4 5.0L

I'll see it in my end and get it processed. 2-3 buisness days on shipping.
How often do you change the oil filter?
When running the amsoil about every 14-15k miles. It's rated for 15k miles under severe service which the truck sees alotnof with towing and hauling and the oil holds up amazingly well. If you're using Motorcraft synthetic blend, based on my experience at the dealershit I would change thatbevery 2500-3k and the full synthetic youncan get away with about 5k. Using either will result in high maintenance costs because you are not only doing more oil changes which is annoying honeslty, but they don't protect nearly as well as Amsoil does.
Does it matter whether you change the filter first or not?
Not really, just good practice
For changing the oil at my house on this same truck, what type of Jack/s should I buy so I don’t get crushed lol
If you're only lifting the front half, 3 ton Jack's are fine. Get good quality ones too. Don't go cheap.
Quick chat: has anyone with the 2018-2020 f150 5.0 V8 have the oil consumption issue fixed or disappear? Or had the oil consumption issue not appear at all?
No issues on the truck featured in the video. Try running the Amsoil as mentioned, its superior quality and resistance to vaporize and be consumed makes it ideal for the higher compression engines like the gen 3 coyote v8 in the new f150s. The link is in the video as well as the description. www.premiumsyntheticsusa.myamsoil.com
No fix yet all ford is doing is putting in a longer oil dipstick and adding more oil in the engine so it looks like the truck stop burning oil between changes.
@@Steven91992 I got the same run around on my 2018 with 5.0
How much oil is your truck burning? I have a 2018 burns about 1qt every 2500-300 miles. I have 45k miles on my truck.
@@jaygon2877 the blue truck in the video is not burning any oil. Amsoil provides 100 percent protection against LSPI (low speed pre ignition) which is what we are seeing at the Ford dealership I work at because the 10 speed keeps the rpms soo low even in high load situations. Non of the trucks we use Amsoil in have consumption issues. If you're burning oil you might as well give Amsoil a try, if it doesn't fix it then you are guaranteed to have some sort major issue. Hit me up if you have any questions. Be happy to answer them or refer to the link to order: WWW.PREMIUMSYNTHETICSUSA.MYAMSOIL.COM
I use only 5w30 on my 5.0 , now i have 85k miles on it
Definitely will help with overall performance and protection, especially long term. Thanks for the comment
Mobil 1 EP 10-30 in a F150 5.0L. It's got a 188,000 miles and doesn't burn a drop of oil.
They could have designed it better for oil changes, can you add a drain valve to it to make it easier ?
You can but this was the trucks first oil change so didn't really know what was gonna happen but know the we all do, that will likely be addressed next time
You think 🤔 they could make a better design for draining that oil Pan ? What a mess ! My 2021 F-350 7.3 Godzilla is a breeze compared to that ! Yikes 😬!
Yea definitely coulda been alittle better, even a slight angle down woulda been awesome
I may have missed it but what was the mileage on that first oil change? Thanks
We decided to do this one at 2500 miles. This got the lower quality grade factory oil out of the truck and upgrading to Amsoil while also being a long enough time to get a good engine break in and get as much break in material out as possible.
@@THEDriverMod_ awesome.
I just did my first oil change at 2550 yesterday.
I always change the oil after the first 1000 miles on a new vehicle
Dear Ford engineers…if ole Henry was alive today, you be tasting shoe leather for a week!
🤣🤣
Any oil consumption issues?
No, just doing its first oil service early after the engine was broken in
You should probably do an engine flush when switching to amsoil.
That's totally your call. Not the end of the world if you don't. Engine flushes are designed to attack, breakdown and remove deposits. This engine only had 2500 miles at the time of this oil change so I can't imagine too many deposits were present
amsoil actually cleans the deposits with the detergents they put in the oil. Their is no need for a flush
Hey man, any oil consumption issues?
Not at all but that was the truck's first oil change at around 2500 miles.
@@THEDriverMod_ how about now?
@@BushmanCanuck over 12k miles, no consumption, still on the same oil change
@@THEDriverMod_ Great news! Got my 2020 5.0 5 months ago and recently youtu.be has been suggesting oil consumption nightmare videos. I miss my 3.5 ecobeast but love the sound of the Magnaflow on my 5.0!

I wouldn't say it sounds like a diesel
Good Job! Don't forget the gloves next time.
Haha thank you!

Definitely not, you will be fine
That $80 oil plug replacement is starting to look attractive.
Yea true story!
@@THEDriverMod_ Just checked and it appears they don't sell the Ronin anymore.
They don’t but UPR sells one. I saw complaints about it flowing too slow tho
Can't please anyone these days lol whine about the plastic plug even though they rarely have issues, install aftermarket plug and whine about it flowing too slow.... smh
@@THEDriverMod_ that’s how it goes lmao but yeah I saw a comment saying it took about 30 minutes just to drain lol
The amsoil filter is not the best choice
I disagree
Mobil 1 is the most tested
Cool.... it's not the best performing however.
Ford screwed the oil drain up… completely. That’s why there are so many aftermarket options available. You should be using full synthetic oil and the lower micron filter. Saving money is stupid at this time.
That's why I run Amsoil. Nothing beats that in 3rd party independent testing
8.8 quarts r u nuts 7.5 maybe u tube it you need to
Go for it
My 2019 5.0 take just over 9 quarts to hit the dipstick full mark
Wow how annoying is that. You just get sprayed. I like ford's but this is terrible.
I knew it was gonna happen from the moment I lifted the truck up, now I put a piece of card board between the sway bar and the drain plug oriented vertically so the oil immediately hits it and runs straight down. Still a pain though
Worse design ever
Truth 100%
Poor job of showing just where to find those places. Maybe show from farther away for a second. But no one else did any better
My bad, at least it's just a simple oil change
that's a lot of oil, are you sure that truck takes all that oil ?????
Yes
