Don’t like the big gap between the topper and cab roof. Looks like it would cause a lot of drag at highway speeds. TFL, have you done a MPG/highway test? I’m curious about how much wind noise is generated and how much the MPG is effected. Thanks.
hard to avoid the gap when auto manufacturers put the shark fin antenna on the roof. I have one on my tacoma, lost about 1 mpg on the highway and have a minimal wind noise increase
@@nycmaverick if I remember correctly it was around $8500, installed July 11th this year, and have 27 nights in it between July 11 and today. Expecting to double that during hunting season this fall and even more next year when I go out west to chase elk.
There's a ton of flex between bed and cab on pickup trucks. Put "tundra twerk" in the search bar. With a camper mounted to the bed, there has to be some clearance to allow for that movement. Fuel economy is reduced, on average, 1 MPG.
Love the Ranger Raptor content. What is the latest on the performance tune. Really looking forward to seeing your results with the ford performance tune.
To be honest, I was hoping it would be pop up front and rear. Its kind of tiny and not really better than anything else on the market for rooftop tents. You called it a camper and I was excited until I saw it is just a tent.
Hi Andre, thanks for the great review. I know you mentioned that the GFC weight actually leveled the truck when it was installed. Did you by chance take an actual measurement to determine exactly how much sag was introduced? I am looking at the GFC on this truck or maybe a slightly heavier alternative and it would be nice to know if a little bit heavier camper (and about 2-300 lbs of gear) are doable. I haven't found an outfitter that offers any way to level the rear should the sag become too substantial. The payload of 1384 lbs would say this shouldn't be an issue, but it would be nice to not have extensive sag. Thanks in advance Andre~
Well another great video guys. I somewhat like the roof top tent but pretty pricy for the average dude. Being 51 and having several campers, this could work on my ZR2, but I would honestly say a small tag behind works better for us since we live in Florida. I think these fit a niche area in camping right now, but I wonder how long they will stick around… anyways keep up the solid work, I envy the Colorado landscape but should be out your way sometime next summer. We are touring the West some and taking in some state and national parks. It would be really cool to run into you guys someday. Thanks for producing some good videos especially the mountain trail segments that Roman did.
Appreciate the lightness and constant improvement of the GFC, but the bed layout is a no-go. Put that thing on struts so no origami is needed to get out when sleeping 2 people up there. Its really a 1 person design as-is.
The only thing that "goes fast" here is the money you fork out for this "camper" they start out at $8500 dollars and can balloon out to over 14K+ Who TF is buying this ?!? Must be people who cant afford housing... You could buy a nice used pop up for less that that topper tent, and have way more amenities.
What nice used pop up for this price? Or you mean a decade old four wheel camper that weighs 3 times as much and might be moldy? I’ve been shopping lightweight pop ups and used or new, they aren’t cheap.
I can't imagine spending $4000 to put a tent on top of a truck (their website...for just the tent, not that setup). Guess it's cool if you are off roading all the time and take care to air out the tent, but if you camp a few times a year don't talk yourself into a roof top tent... A $40 tent does the same thing, as long as you don't have to be off the ground for safety.
all due respect to GFC but I'd go with the Lone Peak or Topotoppers. TFL you gotta make a comparison video, plus Андрей didn't even try to show how comfortable is to lay/sleep in there :)
TfL Journalists at it's finest... you've reported on RTT such as GFC, Radica, Alu-Cab from memory. Have you reported on Dirtbox and others RTTs? I'm glad you are not loyal to any one brand.., and like that people have options. You've tested some vehicles in similar conditions, any testing of RTT's?
$8450 for a canopy? No thanks. I have a Shift Pod tent for my two big dogs and I. Big space for the boys to stretch out and a comfy cot for me. Tommy needs to test the canopy with Blaze. Hop in the Ranger Raptor and go camp at the ranch for a night.
$8,450 for a stripped model? Over $10K with everything you want and you get to shit in a bucket? That's more than a week at Le Méridien Beach Plaza in Monte Carlo.
The majority of people who would purchase and actually use this are not the type of people that would even care about Monte Carlo or ever staying in premium lodging. While it may not be for everyone, nothing is, for the ones that enjoy it the value is there.
@@chazbeaumont65 I have nothing against people who pay big bucks to shit in buckets. I'm just at a loss as to why they pay big bucks when you can go to any downtown of any Democrat run city and camp for free on the sidewalk and shit in street without a bucket.

Then you need a dedicated safe place to store it. In a manner that will not "kinda" ruin the seals for when you return it to the truck bed. The real truck bed "campers" that slide in and out with the self weight supporting legs are a better deal. IMO. Stand alone when not needed on the truck. Easier to instal and remove. And they make them now where they are lower center of gravity with pop up tops. ("kinda" like a roof top tent)
Just got my GFC on a 21' Ford Ranger... it's been amazing so far!
Just saving up money to buy a GFC for my new Silverado Trail boss!! Thanks for the review.
If you can't lay down in the truck bed, it was not meant for camping - Socrates
If the bed isn't AT LEAST 6 feet long, it's not a truck, it's a toy.

Imagine if the Raptor had a 6'7" bed like my truck. No need to sleep on top of your truck in a tent.
Did you guys have to install a bed reinforcement kit for the camper? Ford said the bed frame could only support 88lbs?
No, he answered that in the video
They won't own it long enough for the cracks in the sheet metal to appear. Feel sorry for the next owner.
Not a fan of Ford but this Ranger Raptor is awesome! 😎👍🏼

GFC calls it a camper.
My question is did you install those after market brackets that Ford asked you to install to the bed of the truck. If you add more than Eighty pounds
My question is, why didn’t you watch the video before asking that?
