this is the way I do my paper snowflakes:-D
step1: draw a circle
step 2: cut out circle
step 3: fold in half then fold 2 times again like a pizza slice
step 4: cut little shapes out and open:-D

snowflakes are 6 sided. should fold paper only 3 times to make a 6 sided snowflake (instead of folding 4 times making it 8 sided), also, the snowflakes patterns are straight lines instead of curves. though you version is beautiful in its own way :)
