I installed a 18k advance unit this summer. Can't tell you how it has saved us from dealing with this house being so hot without this unit. Window unit and floor air conditioners didn't do shit for us. This advance unit worked so well. Now that winter is here, the heat pump has worked awsome!! I would buy another one in a heartbeat!!
And here I thought I did something wrong with my install when I saw coils frosted over…thanks for supporting diy folks, I completed entire install including ducts by myself. I had heard these sounds at night but never knew what they were, now it all makes sense! Super happy with my product so far, someday we’ll get a video together 👍🏻💪🏼

I just installed mine Saturday, full system. So far I'm impressed with the it , it's very quiet unlike my old equipment. It seems to be built like a tank ! No flimsy sheet metal like the others, I'm hoping for long use without problems .
could make a video of the sound of it runing? mine makes a rattling sound that no other heatpumps i know ever made and i can't find out if it's normal or not? i got a couple emails with Mr cool but they say " if it works".. i've installed numerous DIY minisplit from them but none makes that kind of sound! otherwise i am also very happy, keeps my whole house 71 no pb even with less than 20 degrees out on 2 ton mode.
@MRCOOL, is there a way to change the defrost mode to run longer than 3 minutes? The reason I want it to run a bit longer is to ensure complete defrost (all frost melted off). This last week of January 2021 average temps between 10-20 F where I am in Iowa, my MrCool Universal condenser did not melt all frost off in defrost mode and this caused about 1" thick ice to build up on the corners of the unit. I manually turned the unit to cooling mode in order to melt all the ice off and then I turned it back to heating mode, but would be nice to not have to do that and prevent the ice buildup in the first place.
Yes, it is possible to change the defrost mode. The outdoor unit dip switches can be set to 'Strong' defrost mode which should ensure the condenser is completely defrosted. Our tech support team at 270-366-0457 can walk your installer through this process should they need assistance.
when the condenser goes into defrost mode, does it communicate with the air handler? (is that what W1 contact is for?) And if air handler is not equipped with heat strips, would it stop blowing air? (because if air handler is still moving air, it would be cold...)
@@dimedtexan I'm guessing defrost cycles are going to depend on the absolute humidity - cold air cannot hold the same amount of water vapor as warm air, but I'm sure there's some pathologically bad conditions where you have freezing conditions with high RH leading to the icing issues.

With the ice storm that we had is there anyway to increase the time on defrost cycle? Mine has alot of ice, not frost like in the video on the sides and bottom
Hey Mr. Cool....my 2 ton minisplit us not defrosting. I am defrosting with my garden hose...is it the sensor you think? Mines two years old. No problems first year.

Having a unit that close to a house would seem as though it would obstruct airflow.
But, given the units performance.....I guess it works fine

Unbelievable defrost performance at that temperature!!! How many times will it have to defrost at 0° F?
When we were running the unit below zero it would defrost about once per night (or thereabouts).
I live in central Texas and mine run defrost mode several times a night. It’s doing it now at 32deg. Outside
