snap, I was surprised none of the other versions did it justice, though nothing beats the classical rendition. Still, love having this on in the background, a nice antedote to my dislike of most pop music
This song, spesially song by Nancy, was absolute the all time favorite of a real close friend of mine. 'Though he was a real "Genesis guy" he ever admited that Nance had a beautiful voice and the he simply fell in love with it..... Sadly my pall passend away two years ago, but his whistling along and his laughter still lingers in my ears. My "good ol' mate".... Except for that it wasn't Bach who wrote that beautiful little minuet. It has been found out that this is written by (from wiki): Christian Petzold (1677-1733), German composer and organist. The melody was in Bach's wife's notebook, where they had gathered some of their favourite melodies
@Daryl W: Nor did I until a few weeks ago. Her birth name is Nancy Bruinooge. She is Belgian and was successful in the 1980s and 1990s. What a pity she disappeared from the musical scene. IMO she has a world-class voice.

@@gustaaf1892 Thanks for that crucial piece of info, as I had never even heard of The Toys (beautiful women, by the way). Having listened to several vocal versions of A Lover's Concerto, I am also very fond of The Supremes' rendition.
Well you found her. I am sure there are others out there waiting to be found. You might like Halfway to where by Jefferson. I'm not wild about the cover.
@@ericbond5276I find new stuff all the time. Been on a bit of a rockabilly binge lately. Seems to be a hot item for European bands now. I'm still finding stuff from my growing up years (60s & 70s) that I somehow missed.
I'd never heard of this singer, either, so I looked her up. Nancy Boyd is the stage name of a Belgian singer whose real name is Nancy Bruinooge. She had some success in the late 1980s and early 1990s working with the Dutch record label BR Music and is principally known for her cover versions of popular songs. On this one she was backed by her group The Capello's and released this as a single in 1987 (Dutch record company BR Music, 45 RPM single Catalogue #: 56037). It was also on a CD and an LP album titled "Let's Hang On", also released in 1987 (BR Music catalogue #: BRLP 96, track 12 on the CD and Side 2, track 06 on the LP) I don't know if it ever charted, but it should have. I've heard many covers of this song, but was unfamiliar with this one, so I had to listen and I was impressed. It Rocks. She took some liberty with the lyrics in a couple of places, but I don't care. She hit it out of the park with this one (my opinion). Personally, I think this record should be resurrected and she and BR Music (if they still exist) should re-release it today, because it blows the doors off of 95% of the work being released by current artists and played on the radio stations today. With the faster tempo and more defined beat, she might just have a hit with it today, especially if it was released internationally and pushed by some top radio stations (once again, my opinion).
This is one of the best covers of the original yet. I've loved this song since 1965 when the Toys hit #2 on the Billboard chart. My other favorite cover is by Kelly Chen, check it out if you haven't heard it. This is really a beautiful song, thank you J.S. Bach, for the "Minuet in G major"
Hi Cobus, Thanks for posting Nancy Boyd's songs. In the USA, you can sometimes find news about a person on the internet like where they live, but not sure about Belgium. These RUclips videos kind of immortalize Nancy and the Capellos . When you think about it, she and the Capellos are in their late 50s now. Maybe even Grandparents. Anyway ... she and the Capellos were terrific and I enjoy listening to their upbeat tempo. Makes mountain biking more enjoyable. Thanks again.

How gentle is the rain that falls softly on the meadow
Birds high up on the trees
Serenade the flowers with thier melodies oh~
See there beyond the hill
The bright colors of the rainbow
Some magic from above made this day for us
Just to fall in love
Now I belong to you
From this day until forever
Just love me tenderly
And I'll give to you every part of me oh~
Don't ever make me cry
Through long lonely nights without love
Be always true to me
keep it stay in your heart eternally
Someday we shall return to this place upon the meadow
We'll walk out in the rain
Hear the birsd's above singing once again oh~
You'll hold me in your arms
And say once again you love me
And if your love is true
Everything will be just as wonderful
Outstanding!!
