To be fair, I think an Americas history as a subject covering the pre-colonial and colonial histories of North AND South America together could fit as a separate subject, but Ellie equating US American History to the history of the entirety of Europe is a bit silly.
@@aggskittlordno less silly than the history of all the world and than the history of Europe being on the same level. But that's eurocentrism for you.
@@publiusii4246 Okay, while Eurocentricism is definitely a thing, that was not really an appliccable point. I'm pretty sure Ellie didn't say in the video that European History WAS World History, and neither did I, and there *are* reasons to have history classes about specific regions, especially if your country exists within or because of that region (aka US spawning from European colonialism and conflict).
@@aggskittlord I don't see how what Ellie said constitutes equating Europes history to American history which is what you called silly, but doesn't constitute equating european to world history. Also, no there are plenty of things taught in a European history class with less bearing on the US than things that aren't covered in a world history class for want of time. We don't learn nearly enough about the Middle East it's barely discussed outside of its brushes with European history like during the crusades and various imperialisms.
@@publiusii4246 Eurocentrism makes some sense though. Europe lucked out on the geography and climate in such a way that it became the driving force behind most of the world's technological and social progress. Even when scientific discovery and knowledge came to Europe from abroad, it was improved upon in ways not thought of at their place of origin (such as with firearms, which originate in China, but were never developed to the same extent). Every major political ideology today originated in Europe. And of course colonialism only strengthened that, with Europe exporting its languages, ideologies, technology, etc. all over the world, resulting in 4 out of 6 UN languages being European ones. That's not to excuse the bias, of course, and Europe did not exist in a vacuum. But you'll find it a lot harder to get as much material to talk about in, say, Subsaharan Africa or pre-Columbian Americas as you would in Europe. Asia and the Middle East are the only ones that can compete.

I googled, because I've only ever seen it spelled "kebab" and I always thought "kebob" was just someone saying "kebab" in an American accent. So, Kebab is how they say it in Arabic-speaking countries where the food originated from. No one knows why it's kebob in America - but they think it might be an Iranian influence because it's apparently kinda said like that there.
The real distinction and the one that can cause confusion depending on what your nights out look like is Doner Kebab versus Shish Kebab. Both are just shortened to kebab but are wildly different, with the only similarity being they're both a form of meat dish.
I love how they struggled so hard playing, "Never have I ever," but their regular conversation is non-stop, "Oh I've never done that. Oh I've never seen that." 😅

Depending on the quality of schooling, we don't learn much about individual country history. British history is relevant to us cause of the Revolution, but that's mostly 1500-1812, then skip to the the World War's. What Ellie is talking about is the general overview of history and the growth/development and spread of Western Culture starting from the Middle East/Egypt to Greece and Rome, with a detour to China and a small pitstop at China, then back to Europe and the Middle Ages, the Rennisance, and then to the discovery of the New World and the start of the Slave Trade and the birth of FREEEEDOM in the 1770's. Grades 2-5 ought to be learning US Geography, civics, and early civs up to the discovery of the US, then Middle/Junior is reinforcing that learning by bulldozing through that same history getting it to US history and why the revolution happened and the whole British-French-Spanish-Dutch colonization, slave trade, early US development and what was happening in Europe, ending with the WW's and Cold War, and High School is basically all US History. College if you take a history major/minor you gotta learn a overview of various histories but for specific countries? Kebab is a Middle-Eastern+Eastern-Eauropean meat product cooked on a big vertical spinning spit, kabob is a skewer with at least meat.
The first time I had alcohol it was with friends at a beach, gathering deadwood to make a fire and roasting marshmallows. Good times.
