Connor was saying the truth from the very first day he stepped in the octagon . He said he's not here for a long time he's here for a good time. And when he lost to khabib the whole thing went out the window. The role is the fantasy of the view/buying audience, being a very good fighter, successful business started from the money then being a movie star even for one movie. He has the life many want so they support him help him stay away from fighting which is the last action he would want to take.

Conor knows he's done. His problem is that the moment he states that directly, his relevance to many many people is dust in the wind. Gone. Movies, booze, bar/restaurants, so many of the things making him money now, never would have e happened if he weren't a fighter, and i imagine he's worried of the affects him saying hes done, will have on future ventures. Plus, if he just dangles that carrot once in awhile, it keeps interest alive in terms of relevance and fandom.

Never before through all his good times. And now, after such a distasteful scandal, his reach is spreading even farther. Assuming the same is replicated across the country, and perhaps many countries, he'll be just fine on the financial front.

I think if he wanted to fight he could stay ranked for another 2-4 years and make some serious cash. Sadly, it wasn't fight damage or father time that curved his fighting career... It was silk sheets, excess nose candy, and hookers/groupies that did it. It's a real shame he didn't/couldn't wait 3-5 more years before living out his Frat boy dream lifestyle. He had a decent shot at becoming a champion in three weight classes.
