Personally I think both versions are equally good, they both have their own vibe and tone. The Halestorm version has a really cool rock meets funk sound and a tool style articulation on the riff (the way the guitars chug on the first beat in the riff reminds me of Jambi) whereas the Daft Punk version has that 70's funk vibe nailed down (the bass riff is just killer and adds so much groove to the song).I really don't think than any version is any better, I like them both for different reasons and comparing them is like comparing apples and oranges really.

Interesting comment...I guess i know what you're talking about, being a heavy metal fan myself and having been to multiple metal festivals...but that doesn't mean i dont like other genres of music, in my case, I really like soft-rock and orchestral music! And i don't like this version JUST because it's more metalley, but because it actually has a decent instrumental track and some kick-ass powerful vocals that the original simply lacks...it feels like a genuine piece of music (still not worthy of the success it has but it's catchy among current generations so thats all that matters really...)
