    Welcome to episode 195 of the RV Miles Podcast! This week we are headed to Congaree National Park to recap our time in one of the smallest NPS units, plus our campground review that had a rule that, in all the years we have been traveling, we've never seen before. If you've got thoughts on the topics covered this week, let us know in the comments and don't forget to subscribe and give this video a thumbs up. See you next week! - Jason and Abby

    Regretfully, the problem of dumping trash in National Forests isn't a new one. In the 1970's I was a Scoutmaster who took his Troop hiking on the Appalachian Trail in the Chattahoochee National Forest in north Georgia. At the end of the weekend we arrived at the gap where the parents were going to pick us up a few hours early. As the parents of 3 boys, I'm sure you appreciate that you never leave boys without an organized activity. I had a box of large black plastic bags and an Idea. I told the Troop that the patrol that gathered the most trash out of the woods would get ice cream at Dairy Queen on the way home!
    What a mistake. In less than an hour they filled up 30 large black plastic bags and were still dragging trash out of the woods and piling it near the trash cans. When the first parent arrived I had them drive me to a nearby store and bought two more boxes of bags. We filled 90 bags of trash that day - and could have filled more.
    Talk about a practical lesson for the Scouts!!!

    Those cypress trees have “knees” which are specialized roots. These roots are the trees way of absorbing air since their other roots are underwater.

    Abbey, Ihope you are keeping a journal about all these little tidbits, campgrounds etc. One day your children will love reading your thoughts, because we know children and adults view their world a little different. Enjoyed this video as it brought back some good memories from our first “young and dumb” cross country trip with two kids under 12, in a pickup camper in summer to Calif, no air cond. in either the camper or truck, dry counties, no Sunday beer sales. Boondocked on the Eel River in the Redwoods and Bigfoot stole our cookies 🤣, our story and sticking to it. Best National Lampoon Vacation ever. That was over 40 years ago. We started going in our 20’s and no plans to stop, 👍🇺🇸

    With the General RV thing, some of the paperwork says 240 months of payments and one says 119 plus a huge balloon payment. Their statement was COLD. They have no plans of helping these people. That's unfortunate.

    We spent a couple days in Glacier in 2017. We thought we were doing the good thing by taking the shuttle but ended up spending 3+ hours just waiting in line for shuttles on the way back to the west entrance late afternoon/early evening. I am 100% supportive of needing reservations to access the park in order to limit number of visitors even beyond 2021. Just don't make concrete plans to go there until you have your ticket or camping/lodging reservations :)

    Hi Guys, love all your content. General RV:: I have worked in several roles and what happened seems obvious to me. I have to say, know your finances and what you can afford before you shop. This is the result of executives, not people on the front lines. The lending company wants to make loans and the RV dealership wants to sell RVs. When I was a lending officer we were REQUIRED to give a counter offer financing if the customer had committed to buy and the paper came from a dealership. Big down payment, balloon payment, high interest rates, and we were always surprised when customers took the counter offer. We felt slimy because and I think the salespeople felt bad too - but the customer went home with whatever they were buying; car, RV, boat, etc. Dealerships will threaten lending companies to withdraw their business if there is too high a decline rate, or at least they used to. Simple math would let that person know that they could not buy that RV using that number of $X payments. Also, General RV and lender are probably between a rock and a hard spot because they can't say - you had crappy credit but wanted an RV you could not afford. They could have been better wordsmiths. Cheers!

Jason had me crying too Abby when he told you how good are with the family. I was crying with you Abby.. I agree with your black tank Abby about keeping BLMs clean. And that you were able to donate food to a good cause. I would have done the same. Jason loved your black tank too. It’s both the customer and the sale people no communication. If that’s the case. Hopefully General will be ok. And the customers too. Hope Abby had a great Mother’s Day! 🌷💐Here sone more flowers for Abby.!

    Dumping trash isn't only happening in National Forests -- taking my dog for a walk every day results in a grocery bag of trash -- we don't go on a long walk. For some reason trash has become someone else's problem everywhere.

  • @lmcburney

    Okay, Abby, I went to Apple podcast, subscribed and left you a 5 star review. I hope it helps! :) Love the park and campground advice you give!
    I agree that public lands should be kept clean but I don't agree that the areas should be shutdown when trash is out of hand. My opinion is that there should be garbage cans available at the entrances and additional areas to put trash. It probably wouldn't help with everyone but the decent people would use the trash cans.
    Wouldn't it be great if at least one of the boys became your photographer? Even if it was b-roll, I think that would help to enhance your program because it would give you more time to produce even more RV and travel content.

    We enjoyed your podcast again, Abby/Abbey your black tank shows that there’s a lot of disrespectful people who don’t care about anyone else. I agree with you that the person who has to clean that outdoor potty will need a hasmat suit. People who are doing that are causing a lot of BLM sites to stop over night stays. Those people hurt all of the good people. I love your fresh tank, if Everyone had the wonderful gesture that that woman had this world would be a better place. & the table at laundry mat that had non perishable food for anyone in need & what you done by going to the grocery store & buying non perishable food & added to what was there brought tears of joy two thumbs up to you, Jason your fresh tank, awesome two thumbs up to you. And if the both of you have Mothers that are still living, thank them daily. Also Jason thank your wife & praise her daily. I got my wife December 1974, she was Sweet 16, I was Sweet 19. We live about 12 miles from Congaree National Park and are so happy y’all liked it! One of the more remarkable things to see there is see are the synchronous fireflies - flashing off and on together, all at the same time. Evenings in late May every year, the park rangers lead tours through the swamp boardwalk and forest.
    Admission is only by lottery due to covid and social distancing requirements last year and again in 2021. But this sight is so the remarkable, y’all should definitely put it on your bucket list radar to swing back thru. Please check out the NPS website for details.
    Orangeburg may not be the bustling metropolis of Columbia, but if you look, there are gems there, too. Edisto Gardens, a quaint downtown, and SC State, plus you’re only an hour away from the state capitol full of museums, parks, and great local food/dinning, not to mention the state’s largest university - the UofSC.
    Hope y’all enjoy Charleston - check out Awendaw Green on Wednesday night. Remarkable local music in Awendaw with world-renowned talent - north on 17 toward McClellanville and Georgetown. (If it’s open, go eat at The Wreck in Mount Pleasant) Again so glad y’all are here and we appreciate your videos. Wishing you safe travels!

    There are lots of exemptions for entering Glacier. So, if someone already has a trip booked, they just need to visit the nps.gov website to figure out a solution that fits their situation. For example, you can arrive before 6am or after 5pm. You can arrive on foot. You can make a reservation for horseback riding, etc. Lots of ways around it.

    Great, great episode today! Love your banter and the back and forth between you guys. Very well done. Do you guys work from a script? The Tank talks were very interesting today not to say disturbing ie the pit toilet in Idaho park. How can folks be so thoughtless?! My guess is that their homes are probably just as disgusting! Unfortunately, the problem is probably going to increase as more people will use camping as a viable option to escape COVID restrictiveness. (Is that a word?). I have seen so many videos from others who are reporting the same issues...anyway, thanks for yr insights! Keep up the good work!

    A car dealership tried to rip me off on a used car purchase. They had etched vin on all windows to deter theft. There was an item on my contract asked if I was paying for this they said no. Later I got out a calculator I was paying for it and their were major issues with their phone system. So I called their customer service number explain the problems I was having with the financing and the finance manager threatening to deposit checks that I did not have the funds for which were posted it along with an issue with the brakes on the car said they said it was due to rain which it was not. So I called the 800 number and explain my issues and they said they would have the general manager give me a call back which he did within an hour from his cell phone because their phone system didn’t work and kept on disconnecting people. He then got everything straightened out and required The finance manager to meet with me because he tried to rip me off. I Think it’s a problem with any kind of vehicle sale beware or get ripped off

    It doesn’t matter who has the original copy of a contract but the original copy rules over any additional marks the carbon shows. Only if the original shows markings that are not on the carbon does the carbon stand as proof to argue the contract from the carbon holder side. (That doesn’t seem to be the case at general rv from what I see).
    There are a lot of people who don’t fully understand what actually happened because they are relying on a news piece bias to one side of the story and not the facts.

    • @michaellopour7409
      @michaellopour7409 3 года назад

      I learned what I know about this situation from the multiple independent news reports and learned absolutely nothing from your comment... sounds like what you are trying to say is that the original should be invalid because it doesn't match the unmolested carbon copy? Or that in most cases that would be true but for some reason not at General RV as if they have laws apply to them differently? What are you talking about?!?!?

    I have only been a subscriber for a short while now and really enjoy most of your videos. Your shorter ones that are topic specific are the best. However, I usually do not watch your weekly, longer videos. I have tried hard. But here I am only 5:12 into your video and have stopped to write this comment. I am indeed interested in all/most of the topics, but you tend to drag them out with receptiveness and unnecessary comments. I suggest that you should have the goal of the same number of topics with a total max video length of 25 minutes. I really do appreciate the RV news you share when you keep it short and to the point :)

    • @RVMiles
      @RVMiles  3 года назад +2

      Hey Soccer Dad, we appreciate the comment, and taking the time to watch. This particular weekly episode is a video version of a podcast, and like many other podcasts (which are audio shows, much like a talk radio show), they tend to be about an hour in length, covering numerous topics inside that hour like an hour long TV talk show, or radio show). Perhaps if you go into it with that mind set, you might enjoy the show more, or you may not. The length of the RV Miles Podcast has been since episode 1 (and we are now on episode 195), an hour long. Maybe some day that will change, but for now, it works for us and for our audience. We'll continue to share content here on RUclips that varies in length, so just know that the Sunday morning RV Miles Podcast may not be the video for you. That said, maybe try giving it a listen on a podcast app, like Apple Podcast or Spotify. You may enjoy it more as an audio version as you're driving around running errands, etc. Be well and thanks! Abby

      100% agree on the statement. I too think there's a good possibility this was isolated BUT when you react confrontationally and with only legal care you give yourself a bad reputation. That's bad no matter what shakes out in the end.
