I think Woody is kinda right, he wants to experiement stuff while being with a buddy there in case it goes out of control. If I knew a friend who's willing to take risks to try and test, I would prefer to be there instead of them trying alone.
This dome is still there off the coast of Turks and Caicos. I dove it a few years ago. They told us there was an old dome from a gameshow that a bunch of people were injured playing. So they left the dome and it is becoming a reef. We were able to dive into the dome and follow a path around it and back out the opening. Really cool to see what it looked like when they were using it!
I would absolutely love if you guys brought him on the show more often! He seems like such a genuine person and you say he has a LOT of diving and cave diving experience so I’m sure he would have a lot of interesting stories to tell! Not to mention just another perspective on things!
Such a gracious young man. His parents taught him well. I would be interested to know his personal beliefs-- just to know more of his persona. (Nothing personal, lol!) btw.. does he have a forest on his left arm?
I was just looking into this show real quick and apparently there were five mermaids stationed outside the dome, which was 15 feet deep at its top and about 35 feet deep at the base, but here is the thing. One of said mermaids was "bad" and if you went to her for air you would get little or no air requiring you to make a mad dash for the surface. Contestants would receive 250 francs for each pearl. According to what I read there were no recorded deaths but the show was cancelled after not running for very long, it looks like one maybe two seasons, because several contestants suffered air embolisms and other injuries you would expect from that insanity and required treatment at a nearby hospital equipped for recompression treatments. There is more information there but this was the information that seemed like it would be most relevant to the group here. Hope this helps.
If I grabbed one of those mermaids and she wouldn’t kindly give this old lady a breath of her air, I’d throat punch her a good one and just take it before passing it back to her! 🤔😁

Ah yes, it was called Le Trésor de Pago Pago. It was one of these amazing French game shows like Fort Boyard or La piste de Xapatan. This one was by far the most insane one. If you think this is bananas ... They had another discipline, where they put a guy into a basket, locked it up, kicked it over into water and the girl from the team had to retrieve the key and let him out.
Please have Mehdi back for more. I really enjoyed this review and although Woody and Gus make a great combo, having Mehdi on as your guest host was pleasantly enjoyable and fun to watch... I give it 👍👍 up.

You listen to your fans, engage in a personal way and arent afraid to admit when you're wrong. Here's to exponential channel growth and continued success :-)
I'm European, and these kind of game shows were super common those times. In France they had a Fort Boyard just for this. They were playing in teams to collect clues to win a bigger sum of money. They had to do pretty complex obstacles. Like mazes, snakes, spiders, trivias, climbing, building stuff, puzzles. Sometimes the obstacles were tailored to the contestants fears. They were really exciting. In each challenge they were collecting keys, clues for the final "treasure" and there was a time catch that the later you got to the final chamber the less money they had to divide between each other. Usually it was a team of 4-10 people. So there was a lot of conflict that people wanted to go early, but others wanted to make sure that they have enough clues to unlock the treasure. If you don't have enough clues then you can leave empty handed. Sometimes they had themed contestants, like stunt people, teachers. Anything goes, but as far as I remember they always made sure that it's safe, so they had doctors, specialist, and helpers on stand by to help in case of something goes wrong.
Mehdi: “...that first image is very promising!”😂 This was a GREAT video! I can only imagine Mehdi was listening to translate and also probably thinking WTF? with every new game rule. Belts, bracelets, pearls, free diving, mermaids, a lock, a CAGE!? 🤷🏻♂️
They did a great job of making that incredibly anxiety inducing for some edge-of-your-seat entertainment! With naked mermaids! It’s the mermaids that really give it that extra punch though 😂

I certified with the British Sub Aqua Club in 2003 (I think). There's a slightly different mindset I think, because there aren't generally "dive centres" who will organise dives, provide a guide/DM, etc., and the diving is mostly organised within local clubs or branches of BSAC. You are expected to be able to work with your buddy as an independent buddy pair. Not to simply follow a guide around a site. And as you say, the UK conditions can be harsh - the water is cold, visibility is often poor, and currents and tides can be strong. Ocean Diver is roughly equivalent to PADI Open Water, but you're taught rescue skills (e.g. a controlled buoyant lift) in, iirc, lesson no. 5 in the pool. Because you'll be diving as a pair, and you might need to get your buddy to the surface.
BSAC seems to be a really good organisation for diving that takes diving really seriously. They conducts research and you always finds great and interesting statistics from them. I understands what you mean about diving in the UK, its the same in Sweden. Shit cold waters and poor visibility. Sometimes we have really great vis on the east coast but it's still shit cold in the water. Here it's really popular to do mine diving which are really cool but still freezing. I'm glad that I learned diving under those type of conditions, but man, am I happy diving and working with diving in South East Asia! Yes sir, I am! It such luxury to dive in 28-31 degrees only wearing a 3mm wetsuit.
I am a UK diver with BSAC. I always get confused on foreign dives if there is a divemaster. I prefer meandering off with my buddy, as it is what I am used to.
@@Musiknird I actually love UK diving. I live in Sardinia now, and while the water is clear, and certainly warmer than the UK, man it's boring! It's all the same wherever you go, there's no variety. And it's easy, with great vis and rarely any currents. In the UK, different sites you see different life, it's much more varied. So a few years ago I took up cave diving, for more of a challenge. There are some fantastic caves here and I rarely do any "recreational" diving any more.
@@ontheballcity71 my experience varies depending on the location, the DM, and the buddy. A good DM will point out stuff that I would never have spotted (pygmy seahorses in Indonesia for example). Some dive centres have been happy with that, others don't like it...

This game show was filmed in the Turks-et-Caïcos islands, on a dive site that is known today as the Thunderdome. The players were selected among extreme sports men and women enthousiasts (not saying they were competent). The production hired a dozen of profesionnal divers who stayed mostly hidden during filming. This program lasted only 1 year, with 11 episodes. Level 2, it's the same as "advanced diver" in PADI. You can be certified L2 with 20 dives. But if you do it with the french federation, it is harder and longer. But french divers don't really like the french federation. Most of them get their dive certification with other french company like AMNP & co. More friendly and more quick. In France, we really don't like the federation. We just join Federation to be able to dive limitless for only 150/200 euros per year. With all the gear included.
Is the federation and CMAS different organisations? I remember having customers that were CMAS 3 stars instructors and it was a huge fuss about it and I was told to go that extra mile for them which was ofc fine and all of them were super friendly and really nice people. I also remember that they as 3 stars instructor didn't have to pay any yearly fees like many other organisations and I think there equipment were free as well in CMAS shops. So that's why I'm asking if they're the same or different organisations.
@@Musiknird Yes, it's a "national" french federation for diving and other nautic sport. In France, every sport have a national federation. CMAS is more for world regulation (because jacques cousteau, a french diver, is one of this people who did the most for diving). FFESSM is a sub-branch of CMAS (as equal at other foreigners federation who are at the CMAS). @@Sombre____ ah cool! Thanx for explaining! It seems like France has many different dive organisations. Jacques is the man and we gave lots to thank him for, especially making recreational diving possible for everyone.

You can get certified CMAS but for this, you just need to go in any dive company (private or public) and asking for it. (You can choose between different type of certification like ANMP, FFESSM, CMAS, SSI, PADI, ...) Some company will made a price on the training some others (like club) will give you a free training course. FFESSM certification is just a little bit hard because they ask for a lot of diving & they don't give you the certification if they are not sure than you manage everything. But FFESSM certification is free in many public company.
They did pretty damn good for not being free divers. Unless they were. But they still did very well esp. With all that physical activity on a breathe hold.
Huge respect to the divers who cannot get in the cage with a scuba tank, had to lock themselves in, and have been waiting with their video equipment, filming everything on one single breath... 🙄
The mermaid I noticed on the outside of the cage definitely had three air tubes (I'm not a diver) but it looks like she has two regulators aswell as her own face mask, aswell as the little handheld tanks. It's probably not the point but I also didn't notice the far right hand side of the cage. My bet is there is a big hole on the other end to allow the camera guy through, because a camera with waterproof housing in the 90's wouldn't have fit through that little hole!
These "contestants" do NOT look comfortable at all....it's like okaaaay.🤯 What are the qualifications of the mermaids? Are they certified rescue divers or just eye candy? 😱😱😱😱😱

Does Mehdi have a channel ? It sounds like he's a super confident diver and i'm interested in seeing Mehdi dive
Thanks, I do not post very much on my channel but there is a few more videos on DiveTalk where you can see us in action!
They did pretty damn good for not being free divers. Unless they were. But they still did very well esp. With all that physical activity on a breathe hold.
Woody got younger and picked up an accent. Very sus. Great video.
Gus we need “this is bananas” merch please 😂
Ok...we are reaching out to our very qualified team of fashionistas overseas to put a design together!
@@DIVETALK yay!!!
I found myself surprisingly anxious and just hoping they'd make it back up...
Man,..eff them pearls lol..
Strangest game show ever but for the 90s it makes sense. 😂
Wondering if others hit the like button before watching the video 😂
Huge respect to the divers who cannot get in the cage with a scuba tank, had to lock themselves in, and have been waiting with their video equipment, filming everything on one single breath... 🙄
do you really believe that the cameramen where without cylinders?
nevermind, je n'ai pas bien lu lol
Even if they have safety divers in the background and other safety measures the perceptions about diving it gives off could hurt people
Paint me like one of your French mermaids
Confess Mehdi,
We know you have a Brooklyn accent in real life.
🤫🤣
The mermaid I noticed on the outside of the cage definitely had three air tubes (I'm not a diver) but it looks like she has two regulators aswell as her own face mask, aswell as the little handheld tanks. It's probably not the point but I also didn't notice the far right hand side of the cage. My bet is there is a big hole on the other end to allow the camera guy through, because a camera with waterproof housing in the 90's wouldn't have fit through that little hole!
Metric for the win!
It’s like the crystal maze on steroids
They are breathing compressed gas and then holfing their breath
Are they diving in Hawaii? The logo sure looks like the Big Island
Scratch that, I never noticed that the Big Island looks like a conch shell lol
is the host of the french show Justin Kirk A.K.A. Andy from the HBO show Weeds? can anyone help with that?
The host is Olivier Chiabodo.
Would love to see Woody react to this, on coffee!
These "contestants" do NOT look comfortable at all....it's like okaaaay.🤯
What are the qualifications of the mermaids? Are they certified rescue divers or just eye candy? 😱😱😱😱😱
There are safety divers inside the cage. The cameramen…
That’s sooooooooooo sketchy!!!😂😂😂
Hahaha, what a fun reaction vid!
This is bananas
13:37 this is why im here.
PS. more French mermaid videos please.........lol
Omg this gave me so much panic! How did they not kill anyone. It was hilarious at the same time too🤦♀️
