I asked a friend from Japan if it's okay to wear kimono. They said it's really okay and they would be so happy seeing a foreigner wearing a kimono. They wished they could wear it on a daily basis, but they find it time consuming as it requires an assistant to help them to dress-up especially during special occasions.
They're really amazing to look at but too difficult to wear it as they say.

It's funny because Americans love to be like "Cultural Appropriation reeee" in the case of kimonos, like they're the boss of rights and wrongs in everyone's cultures.
And this is coming from an American.

The difficulty of kimono is dependent on how you define difficulty. I would say, kimono have a lot of options, which means that putting one on means you make a lot of decisions. It is definitely possible to learn how to do it by yourself, and if it was too unlearnable it would never have been the standard dress of an entire nation. In some ways, I find western clothing more difficult, since they don't allow you to decide the length or tightness the way kimono allows you to choose.
There is definitely a growing number of people who wear kimono and other forms of traditional Japanese dress on a daily basis, since many would like to see kimono survive long into the future. Though I wish the video had rightly explained that there are casual kimono that look much more simple than the outfits shown in the video.

To the reporter and the guest: The garment is pronounced KI-MO-NO! NOT KAH-MO-NO or KO-MO-NO! SA-MU-RAI NOT SAI-MO-RAI.

The Kimono is actually a derivative of the TANG dynasty royal costumes

History of Kimono started when Japanese quit copying Tang China. :p

@@yayoikisaragi7968 Many Chinese online insisted that Kimono is the clothing of Tang dynasty and they also lay claim to Hanbok! I do find many Chinese on the internet rather annoying, I had debates with them and they can be really stubborn! But the basic foundation of Kimono was indeed derived from Hanfu and Chinese always play that card!

@@jackjackyphantom8854 The basic foundation of Kimono is prehistoric Japanese people's 貫頭衣 which is widely seen among East Asian rice farmers. This is the conclusion of study by experts, and actually it is obvious for us the people who know structure of Kimono.

Why do native English speakers pronounce kimono as 'kuhmono'? It sounds horrible.

It's more difficult than you think loosing an accent, especially as an adult. It's not like they know the phonetic alphabet or have experts just on pronunciation. I know a second language on C1 level and still have an accent. It happens. Cut them some slack.
