*INFO* - Llanberis Bomb Store is situated within an old quarry site, and was used to store WW2 Bombs and amunition - It was built to house 18,000 tons of bombs. The site also had a functioning railway line to ferry the cargo in and out of the storage unit - this terminated underground and consisted of a loading bay. The site consisted of a number of deep open pits, linked together by tunnels.
Narrow gauge railway lines entered the lower level of the depot. It also had an underground depot and was adapted to produce a store with two floors throughout, with electric lifts transporting bombs to the upper floor.
In January 1942, two-thirds of the structure collapsed, burying 14,000 tons of bombs. The majority were recovered and although the remaining tunnels were eventually cleared of debris, no ammunition was ever stored underground at Llanberis again.
The depot closed in July 1956, however some 30 years later in the 1970s, the site was used to dispose of old and surplus bombs, bullets and grenades.
It was confirmed that 70,000 German tabun nerve agent shells seized following World War II were held at the Llanberis quarry for a short time before they were moved to another facility near Caernarfon, and eventually dumped at sea.

2 years ago I spent a very boring day parked up in my coach just yards from this location and I never knew it was there. How maddening is that?
Oh wow that's crazy!
They dumped tons of stuff in the lake 😮 including chemical bombs
😮
Excellent video thank you within really
Thanks! 👍
Great area and views.
Too bad about the yellow hole.
👍👍😎
Yeah shame about that!
I have just been up there today as I live just a few miles away from it...
Unfortunately you can't go inside anymore as the door is firmly locked 😢
Still worth a visit but if you are hoping to go in you will be disappointed 😔
That’s a shame! Thanks for the update 👍
That's a shame we're thinking of going there tomorrow
Awesome video as ever! 👏
Cheers Barry 😉😁
Nice 1 Steve 👍 see ya soon
Excellent location nice one 👍👍👍
Thanks!
excellent video , i live near its sister site raf harpur hill outside Buxton a former quarry and mine research site once the largest bomb store in the uk , with a large network of 11 tunnels 17ft tall 25 ft wide and half a mile long on two levels in the main bunker . there was a train inside the bunker and large lifts also, with smaller bunkers above ground still in use by the health and safety executive . the sites hidden history includes the disposal of captured German ww1 / ww2 chemical weapons mostly by burning in pits full of bleach and petrol dangerous work with the local hospital having a ward open and reserved for raf personal injured by this .the first mountain rescue service was formed at this site by raf volunteers .health and safety carry out experiments on the site next to it but there is a public footpath right through the site and red flags warn of danger are deteriorated as they leave them up 24/7 to deter walkers .The Large bunker is still in use by a company storing wine and cheese due to the constant temperatures inside , a few years ago 1990s i ventured into the emergency exit as was wide open and abandoned looking i didn't stay long as my mag light was fading but after the blast control wall section it looked almost untouched from the 1960s mushroom farm photo but sadly was sealed next visit
Awesome! Thanks for the info on that didn't realize there was a sister site!
