    Oooooooh...A Confidential Report. The paint roller test and the suburban driveway test where a real hoot. The wedding cake trunk test was so suspenseful. That would have fooled Penn & Teller. Rolling the Corvair down the hill was the highlight. Boy what fun. A fabulous Jam Handy Picture. Why didn't his win an Oscar?

    great film but its def biased. (as expected its a marketing film). Although it was a great year for GM drivelines.. ford was one year later it came into its own. fyi i have a 4 door falcon identical to the one in the video i drive very regularily. the stock 144 was awful, no doubt. also a 2 speed. Ona related note,, look up the 100,000 mile ford falcon durability test they did in 64. great film. thanks for sharing this.

    One other little tidbit, the 327 engine in the Chevy doesn't state how much horsepower it has and as we know it could range from 250 to 360 hp.

  • @spinkelben

    After doing 15 rollovers in a car my main concern would also be if the engine still starts...

    Have to say in the comparison of the full size cars, why does the Plymouth have a 318, it should have a larger engine as did the ford and Chevy for equal comparison test.

    I suppose the reason the compact Chevy II is being testest against so many mid-size cars is that Chevrolet wouldn't have a mid-size car until the following year. I'm also sure that the Chevy II wasn't equipped with the standard engine, a 153 cu. In. 4 cylinder. I call BS right from the first test.

    Note that Chevrolet always compared themselves to Ford or AMC. They never made a comparison between Chevrolet and Mopar. In those days, Mopar was da bomb.

    Interested road test, you can see that the Chevy 2 had the biggest six cylinder as noted on the side of the car in most tests, why wasn't the 4 cylinder used in the station wagon test that overloaded all tested wagons. Who does that when testing a cars performance. It looks like Chevy had a bias hand In this testing. I would have bought the Rambler, much better car than the noisy Nova.

  • @dwaynecrandall2546

    Ah, the Chevy II had a 396 ci engine and that was Junior Johnson driving his #3 NASCAR vehicle! :>). Don't think that was Ralph Nader behind the Corvair, though.

    Sure the 1963 Chevy was a good car, but the Ford fails everything here!? I've owned them all...Chev, Ford, Mopar and AMC. This seems far too critical of the Ford products! Well, I guess Ford was Chevys greatest competitor...that probably irked Chevy to no end...

    • @phoneman91
      @phoneman91 9 лет назад +1

      animalcorvair You probably are an exceptional driver/owner. Or you drive it in a very conservative manner. If you drove your pre 65 Corvair the way I drove my Falcon -you would have had an accident probably. When the Corvair got a modified Corvette fully independent rear suspension-the handling problem with the Corvair went away. GM caused the issue with these 1960 thru 1964 Corvairs--- to save 15 dollars per vehicle. I am still impressed with the engineering that went into the Corvair-but not impressed with GM's managerial irresponsibility.

      phoneman91 i have both early an late corvairs an i had a falcon a 63 //my 62 would out turn it ,,may not out run it ,,,,,my lates give new cars hell in a curve ..yes i am used to the corvairs an know how they drive ...i also have a 69 mach1 fastback no way it will out turn any of my corvairs ...but 0 to60 the vairs would not catch it ,,,lol

  • @petermainwald6413

    I have had them all and Ford was terrible in most aspects. Brakes? what are those? Old engines, poor interchangeability between models.. Ford though had styling, Chrysler had engineering and Chevrolet had marketing and interchangeable parts.. because they were really all the same car more or less. A Cadillac was a Buick was a Oldsmobile was a Pontiac was a Chevrolet... Same car, different body.. Chevrolet was simply more familiar to most people.

    • @phoneman91
      @phoneman91 9 лет назад +1

      PETER MAINWALD I owned a 1963 Falcon--never had an issue with brakes. And I exercised the brakes often as a new teenage driver back 50 years ago. I know what--let's compare heaters--which had the safest and most effective heater and defroster: the Corvair or the Falcon? And which had deadly oversteer in a high speed turn?

    • @phoneman91
      @phoneman91 9 лет назад +1

      animalcorvair I wonder which of the two cars--the Corvair or the Falcon --would most likely kill the driver in a high speed decreasing radius turn? The Falcon was a good handling vehicle for it's time. The auto magazine testers back then realized that the Corvair had sudden and dangerous oversteer--even before Nader and his book came along!

    • @animalcorvair
      @animalcorvair 9 лет назад +1

      phoneman91 had both an still have my corvairs ...falcon cant out run it cant out turn it an most cars at that time cant out stop it ,,,,why i drive to this day corvairs ...an yes i have new cars too

    • @phoneman91
      @phoneman91 9 лет назад +1

      animalcorvair me video evidence of a stock Corvair out performing a Falcon! Tell me that the Corvair's heater and defroster will out perform a Falcon's heater and defroster! Tell me that unhood maintenance is easier on the Corvair! The fact that GM didn't attempt to contrast the Corvair to the Falcon on the video above is telling. There would have been no reason for the Chevy II if the Corvair was competitive with the Falcon.I can appreciate the Corvair from an engineering aspect. But the 1960 thur 1964 Corvair were down right dangerous to the average driver.
