Babymetal has been a band since 2010. They began as a subunit of the Japanese idol group Sakura Gakuin, and broke off from the group in 2013. Originally it consisted of Su-Metal, Yuimetal, and Moametal. Yuimetal left in 2018 due to health reasons. The third girl in this video is one of a trio of dancers known as the Avengers who performed with the band from 2019-2023. They now have a new member named Momometal who officially joined in April and was one of the Avengers. They have a backing band called the Kami Band, which is a rotation of professional musicians.

Great reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL.
This music video has the studio recording over the visuals from a concert called BABYMETAL Awakens - The Sun also rises (day 2) held at Yokohama Arena in late June 2019 with a sold out crowd of about 17K people (that's the arena's nominal capacity). Funnily enough their next two concerts will be held right there. 😁
"PA PA YA!" is a summer festival fun song about a Thai spicy green salad and it never fails to put one in a good mood when it's needed.
They are very diverse musically as they like to mix any music genre with metal. So, always expect the unexpected.
    Until next time!

Nobody ever seems to notice that they are dancing on an elevated platform that is moving in two dimensions while they dance- and they are making it look like nothing! I admit, there's a lot going on in this video, but them making this all look so easy is evidence of how hard they work. Saw them in Dallas last year, and they were just as amazing as I expected.

I do like how they stopped lipsyncing unlike when they first started because when they did come out they were a gimmick. But they have improved especially after they stopped lypsyncing. The backup singers Moa and Yui were supposed to be screamers as well but they never did scream, it was always on a track.

@sarahrose4945 in their younger years, they mostly had 15 to 35min shows compared to the average artist with an hour or longer.
Nowadays, their shows are 1 hr to 1.5hrs.
They have been singing and being trained to sing since they were in kindergarten! So no, the 2 girls never did the screaming vocals. To believe that, you're fooling yourself. Su-Sama did scream a few times and you can tell when she does it while live.
Since they've been trained in the art of singing and dancing since they were that young, they know how to sing without blowing their chords.

@@lightyagami5294 read my comment again. we’re not talking about singing nor did i ever say they did scream. I said momo does scream bc she does. There’s many videos of her screaming live. Officially, BABYMETAL is just the three ladies, and they are from Japan. Their backing band is all male. They actually have two backing bands - the Eastern kami band (Japanese), which backs them in Asia and some European shows, and the Western kami band (American), which backs them in the Americas and some European shows. BABYMETAL is HUGE! They are Japan's biggest musical export since X-Japan in the 80s. They started out in 2010, when lead singer Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) was just 12 years old, and then-backups Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yui-metal (Yui Mizuno) were 11. Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons, and her spot was taken by a rotating trio of dancers called the Avengers (Avenger Kano Fujihara is the Avenger in this video) from 2018 to 2023. In early 2023, one of the Avengers Momoko Okazaki (now Momo-metal) was elevated to full member status, and they are once again an official trio. They completed a US Tour co-headlining with Dethklok in 2023 (I caught the show in St. Louis; I also saw the original trio in Chicago back in 2016). They have done collabs with several international superstars. Just in 2023, they did collabs with Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) and Lil' Uzi Vert. Previously, they did collabs with Bring Me the Horizon, Tim Henson and Scott LaPage (Polyphia), Alyssa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), Joachim Broden (Sabaton), Dragonforce, and appeared in a video with Corey Taylor (Slipknot). The guest rapper in this video is F. Hero, one of the biggest rappers in Thailand. The song Pa-Pa-Ya does make reference to the papaya fruit and salad, but it more broadly refers to the popularity of summer festivals, where those dishes are symbolic of summer fun.

BABYMETAL has been active for 13 years, but even SU-METAL, the oldest member of the group, is only 26 years old. Their album METAL GALAXY, which includes this song, became the first Asian artist to reach No. 1 on Billboard's Top Rock Albums. The song features Thai rapper F. Hero, and BABYMETAL has also previously collaborated with BRING ME THE HORIZON, Arch Enemy, TPolyphia's im Henson and Scott LePage, Sabaton's JOAKIM BRODEN, Tom Morello, and Lil Uzi Vert.
BABYMETAL is very different from any other band; there is an excitement that can only be experienced with BABYMETAL.

Good first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊Yes, they are a Japanese band formed in 2010, there were 3 original members (they were only 12 and 11 years old at the time) and we have watched them grow up and become one of the very best live acts on the planet.
This performance was filmed on the second night at the start of their 2019 tour.
BABYMETAL are Su-metal (lead vocalist), Moametal and Momometal (in charge of backing vocals, harmonies and mainly hyping and involving the crowd with their choreo).
The original third member Yuimetal last performed in October 2017 and was absent for 12 months for health reasons until she announced she was still not fully recovered and would be leaving the band.
Momometal, was revealed as the new official third member on 1st April 2023.
F Hero was their guest for this song. He is a rapper from Thailand and very well known there, he flew in to Japan specially to perform on those first two nights of the tour. They performed in Bangkok in Thailand just a few months ago and F Hero made another special guest appearance.
'PA PA YA' is a summer festival song - and it really is about a spicy green papaya fruit salad. F Hero was rapping in Thai to the same rhythm as mixing the ingredients for the salad with a mortar and pestle.
They are pretty much saying that, much like the salad, mixing the right spices into life will make that better too.
BABYMETAL are like nothing you will have seen or heard before, they brought a fusion of great metal instrumentals coupled with JPop hooks, melodies and aesthetics to create their very own sub-genre ... and they have continued to develop and evolve from those beginnings.
They don't limit themselves to any one main style or genre and you won't be able to pigeonhole or put them in any one box like you can with virtually every other band in the world, they are one of a kind and they invented their own genre and style that nobody has been able to copy successfully (some have tried, none came close) including bringing choreographed dancing to metal (but not as you might know it from pop acts where it is nearly always used just to fill the stage or give you almost naked girls (and boys) to look at to take your mind off often bland music).
BABYMETAL's choreo helps with interpreting the song - a lyric or the meaning etc, but it is designed to involve and lead the crowd, to give them their cues when to jump, shout, pump their fists, chant and so on. BABYMETAL are complete masters of crowd control and crowd involvement.
They are supported in live shows by the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians, each one of them a world class instrumentalist.
A bit later than this concert in 2019 the Kami Band of the West (American musicians) were introduced and they have been supporting BABYMETAL on their more extended foreign tours since then.
They have nearly 70 songs now, every one of them is different from the last. They have songs in virtually every metal genre but will mix in other musical styles and genres with the metal, often when you least expect it. Some songs lean towards their pop roots others are just good hard metal and they do everything in between - so if you don't like one song no problem - try another, the chances are you'll love it.
Don't worry about not understanding the language (they do throw in the occasional English word or phrase and they have 4 songs in English) - there are countless songs supposedly sung in English that I can't make out what is being said (or that I wish I didn't understand). If BABYMETAL want you to feel a certain way or an emotion they will do it. As Su-metal once said when she was first finding out about metal and how she should appreciate it "Don't think. Feel."

    Welcome to the Fox Hole.
Babymetal has been around for 13 years now. They started as a subgroup of the japanese idol band Sakura Gakuin, as the Heavy Club (Sakura Gakuin was themed around school). They were 12, 11 and 11 when they started, and are now 26, 24 and 20 (one member changed). They are Su-Metal (26, lead singer and lyrics writer for the fourth album), Moametal (24, screaming and dancing) and Momometal (20, screaming and dancing) who replaced Yuimetal (24, screaming and dancing).
They are VERY popular. Their first album got to number two in Bilboard Japan and toped the iTunes Metal in Germany. In 2016, they were the highest japanese band of history in the UK's Official Chart thanks to their second album and in 2019 they became the first ever asian act to top the Bilboard Rock Albums chart thanks to their third album.
If you decide to continue reacting to Babymetal, I would suggest to check out how they started by watching their very first song: "Doki Doki Morning".

    Welcome to the Foxhole! 🤘🦊🤘
Most of the truly important information has been or will be given in other comments, so I like to give the fun titles and nicknames given by The ONE (Babymetal’s Fan-base) as well as other (un)important information.
BABYMETAL started as an experimental sub-unit of the larger JPop/JRock group Sakura Gakuin.
Suzuka Nakamoto\Su-Metal (Vocals and Dance): Angel of Song, Queen Su, Queen of Kawaii, Metal Queen, and Metal Goddess.
Before Sakura Gakuin, she performed in a stage production of "The Adventurers" and was a member of the JPop trio, Karen Girls.
Fun Fact: Bullfrogs are her Kryptonite
Yui Mizuno\Yuimetal (Scream and Dance) Former member since 2018: Angel of Dance, Princess Yui, Tomato Princess, Tomato-Kun, Kawaii Princess and Devourer of Souls (or at least she stares into your soul). Yui had a minor role as a child actor in a Japanese TV Drama before joining Sakura Gakuin. She has cute, chubby cheeks.
Fun Fact: Yui is tickled by Bullfrogs.
** WARNING ** Do NOT, ever, under any circumstances call her “small”, "smol", “short” or “tiny” (same rule applies to Moametal).
Moa Kikuchi\Moametal (Scream and Dance): Angel of Love\Smile, Queen of Hearts, Princess Moa, Kawaii Princess, Super Moa-chan, Maiden of Mischief, and Headmistress of Hedabon. She has huge dimples and a smile that melts the hardest of hearts.
Fun Fact: Loves to troll Su-metal on-stage with little pranks as well as torment Su-metal with Bullfrogs.
Momoko Okazaki\Momometal (Scream and Dance): Angel of Joy, Kawaii Princess, Princess Peach, Vampire Slayer, Kabuki Queen. Also a Sakura Gakuin graduate. Was a contestant on the Korean reality survival program "Girls Planet 999" (which thankfully for The ONE, she was eliminated from early on) and performed in a stage musical production of "Black Butler". Momoko was the only “Avenger” (see below) to perform in the “10 BABYMETAL Budokan” shows in 2021 and was officially named Momometal and made a permanent member in April 2023. She deserves the spot!
Fun Fact: Momoko's father is a popular comedian in Japan known for making dead-pan jokes. Momoko worked very hard to make her way without using his name as a crutch.
BLACK BABYMETAL: Yuimetal and Moametal performing as a duet while Su-metal takes a breather. Also known as “MoiMoi”. There are 4 BBM songs (GJ!, Onedari Daiskusen, 4 No Uta\Song 4, and Sis. Anger) some of which Moametal performed solo a few times after Yui's departure. Now that Momometal is a member, we are hoping for more BBM songs with MoMoa! But only the Fox God knows.
AVENGERS: 3 Dancers who took turns performing the choreography in Yuimetal’s spot after her departure. They were not official members did not have microphones and were not even named. It was the fans who quickly figured out who they were and you will see them in live performances between 2018 and 2021.
    They were:
    Momoko Okazaki (see above).
Riho Sayashi: Suzuka’s former rival at Actors School Hiroshima, often competing for the same roles. Former “Ultimate Ace” of the JPop Idol group Morning Musume. Now a solo artist.
Kano Fujihara: (performing in this video) Former Member of Sakura Gakuin, the school-aged Idol group that BABYMETAL was born out of. Like Suzuka and Moa before her, Kano was Student Council President her last year in Sakura Gakuin and like Yui, was considered arguably the best dancer in SG during her time there. She is now a member of the Idol group @onefive, which is comprised of 4 Sakura Gakuin graduates (Kano, Momo, Soyo and Gumi). Kano only performed with BABYMETAL in Japan as she could not travel, likely due to her commitments to Sakura Gakuin and the then developing @onefive.
    We are #notacult.

BabyMetal began 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno. Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old All three girls were friends and classmates who attended an idol group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents.
Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result.
At first Amuse showed little interest and the girls had financing mainly from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine.
They have over 60 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.)
Suggest reacting to these HQ Pro Shot videos of LIVE performances for a start.

The original Japanese Kami Band backed them at shows in Japan until recently. They seem to have been replaced by the American version.

“This is crazy! Look at their set up”
This is actually their more mild stage set ups. 😁 check out “Road of Resistance Live in Japan” for a crazier stage.
Btw been subscribed for a while now and the last thing I expected was to get a BABYMETAL reaction here ✨😭
Also BABYMETAL has been around for a little over 10 years and basically ushering in a new era of Metal. Also if you react to more BABYMETAL PLEASE do the live versions. They are one of those anomalies that sound 10x better live than their studio mixes

Ay I second all this! Especially their live versions, I gotta back the live versions where they switched up the main vocalist midway. That whole stage still gives me chills:

Well, you’ve opened a can of worms!
BABYMETAL has an extensive history: they've been around for a bit over thirteen years now (they started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and the two "cheerleaders" (officially "scream and dance" (backing vocals)) - Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - were both around eleven. Unfortunately, Yui left the band in 2018 because of health concerns, and early in 2023 Momometal (Momoko Okazaki) was named a member of the group. And this is just scratching the surface. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer.
BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums, and have been on a number of world tours. It is common knowledge among their devoted fans (known as "The One") that BABYMETAL is best served live, but they do have several music videos that are real works of art. I suggest you go back to the beginning, and react to their first two music videos, "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay"), both released in 2012. You’ll notice those are the first two on this list of recommended songs:
Doki Doki Morning (official music video)
    Iine! (official MV)
Gimme Chocolate!! (official MV or Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
    Megitsune (official MV)
BABYMETAL Death (Legend 1997 Apocalypse version) [for those who are religiously sensitive, see the Budokan Black Night 2014 version]
Onedari Daisakusen (Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
Song 4 No Uta (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Uki Uki * Midnight (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Catch Me If You Can (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Ijime, Dame, Zettai (Live at Sonisphere 2014 version)
    Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! (Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
Road of Resistance (Legend 2015 New Year Fox Festival version)
    Karate (official MV)
Meta Taro (Five Fox Festival version)
    GJ! (Fox Festival 2017 version)
Sis Anger (Fox Festival 2017 version)
    Shanti Shanti Shanti (official MV)
    Pa Pa Ya!! (official MV)
    BxMxC (official MV)
    Metalizm (official MV)
    Metali!! (official MV)
I would include the links but, for some reason, RUclips sometimes thinks I'm posting spam and will delete my comment. For the links, see the RUclips playlist “BABYMETAL Top Twenty”; it is a mix of MV’s and live performances, is more or less in historical sequence, and could be considered a road map down the BABYMETAL foxhole. If nothing else, it can be used as a reference to find high quality versions of BABYMETAL songs without mucking about - if they are on the list. Anyway . . . .
Another recommendation (read "challenge"): react to an entire BABYMETAL concert. I suggest "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" and/or "Budokan Black Night" (2014). There are playlists for both on the HEAD123456 RUclips channel. Both concerts are, in a word, incredible.
Enjoy your trip down the foxhole! (You're in for a wild ride!!!)
Keep rockin' BABYMETAL!!! (Sorry about the wall!)
    KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘

What makes me happiest about Babymetal is how much they've just been embraced by metalheads. I know the metal community has a reputation for being very dour and serious and not exactly welcoming of experimental or novel acts. But Babymetal have had huge success in the West, and their praises sung by everyone from Metallica to Rob Zombie. I first saw them as an opening act for Sabaton (who are another band worth checking out if you haven't seen them already) who, being a band whose whole gimmick is war history, you'd expect their crowd to not exactly be welcoming to a band whose gimmick is bubblegum J-pop meets metal. But the crowd LOVED them!

A little fun fact that I like!
When they first reached out to F.HERO about doing a song together.
F.HERO was worried about writing the lyrics in English, which is obviously not his first language.
The people behind BabyMetal just said no, do the lyrics in your native tongue.
And so he did! Giving us this banger.
The girls in BabyMetal also incorporated dance moves from his country to their dances.
