It is actually Nintendo's fault. By their standards japanese developers/companies often come first, then western developers/companies. It's a buisness code in japan. They believed Rare wasn't going to help them in the future, hence why they bought only ~40% of the company and refused later to raise their budget. This is why Rare was kind of shocked and they had to find a new buyer. Nintendo could technically buy them back, but I think it wouldn't change anything. It seems like Nintendo has changed.
Under that logic, Nintendo would've saved Alphadream, but they saw Alphadream as a sinking ship and left them to bankruptcy, while they buy out Next Level Games instead, and so far, the purchase appears to be looking bad thanks to Mario Strikers Battle League being barebones. I would argue that Microsoft's purchase would be not as bad as everyone thinks; I mean let's be real, do you want a Rare project that is not a live service, yet is completely barebones and only given 2 major updates then call it quits immediately afterwards?
