It's a Three Hour Drive to The Store | Outhouse Building Materials

  • The weather sucks right now, to put it lightly!
We got about an inch of rain in FEBRUARY in ALASKA. That is not the best working conditions on top of the 2-3 feet of snow on the ground. So, this seemed like a good time to pick up the materials we need for the outhouse and run some errands while we're there!
We have a 30-minute snow machine ride from the cabin we are currently living in on Levi's parents' property to our property/the future homestead. From there we can drive our truck the 2 and a half to 3 hours to town. There are closer gas stations but to reach a Home Depot or Walmart, it's about 3 hours! Especially on roads like these.
We already have a nice (discounted) residential door for this outhouse so we want to make the rest of it nice as well. We picked up the lumber for the build, some vents for underneath, and the screws. We will also be matching the metal and stain to our cabin roof down the road and will paint the inside a nice bright shade to keep it light in there. We also picked up a window from a local remodel that we may add to the outhouse!
We figure if this will be our toilet for the foreseeable future (as long as we are at our new homestead) then it may as well be somewhat nice!
When the weather was still holding itself together, we got the outhouse dug back out of the snow as well. Only to get about 18" more snow a few days later though! Homesteading in Alaska was never meant to be easy.
As always, thank you so much for watching! If the snow slows down long enough to plow and build, we will get the outhouse up soon! 😁

A family adventure video today I see! We are having the weirdest weather here in the UP. Yesterday it was a beautiful 62 degrees and it dropped down to 8 over night with snow and wind. I think we got about two inches. It is currently 10 degrees right now with a low tonight of 3 I think then it is going to be back in the 50's and they are calling for rain!

Red would show up nicely for a helicopter if needed. How would a backpack, pappoose carrier, for Henry work out ? You'd have your front arms area, freed up.

Henry looks so darn cute in his buffalo plaid hat. Ugh, we’re in Maine and dealing with February rain as well. Such a strange winter.
