  • Beach nourishment (aka beach renourishment, beach replenishment, beach restoration, beach rejuvenation, etc.) is where sand, lost through ocean drift and/or erosion, is replaced from other sources by humans

Fascinating indeed, an ongoing process and yeah only worsening with rising seas. Thanks for the great video, very interesting!

So I live in Navarre Beach Florida near Pensacola. In this area we have replenished and rebuilt the beaches by sucking it out from off shore a few hundred yards. Seems kind of an unnecessary cost to transport sand from other beaches. I’m not not criticizing your video just saying it seems like a waste of money when you got all the eroded sand right out in front of you. Think this process is good to help preserve current beach line and save beachfront housing

Thanks, Wesley, and I totally agree with you.
I don't pretend to know why the city chooses to do it this way, but I have to imagine it's because they want nicer sand on their beach than what they have natively.
Regarding the previous nicer sand having eroded back into the ocean and possibly sucking that back up onto the beach (like in a cycle setting), I don't know enough about the logistics of that and why that wouldn't work better, but again, your idea makes sense to me here as well. Could it be that the sand has been degraded and they want newer "fresher" sand? I just don't know.
      Would love to learn more!
