CLIP DESCRIPTION:
After the Arctic Warrior collides with the abandoned ocean liner Antonia Graza Captain Murphy (Gabriel Byrne) explains the mysterious history surrounding the missing cruise ship.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A salvage team think they've made the find of a lifetime, until they discover there's more on board than meets the eye in this supernatural thriller. Led by Captain Sean Murphy (Gabriel Byrne), the crew of the tugboat Arctic Warrior have discovered a sideline far more lucrative than hauling ships in and out of the harbor -- they locate missing or wrecked ships in international waters, repair them until they can be brought back to port, and then sell off the ship and its contents as salvage. Acting on a tip from Jack Ferriman (Desmond Harrington), a pilot in the Canadian Air Force, Murphy and his crew -- salvage expert Maureen Epps (Julianna Margulies), first mate Greer (Isaiah Washington), and crewmen Santos (Alex Dimitriades), Dodge (Ron Eldard), and Munder (Karl Urban) -- set out to find a large craft seen adrift off the Alaskan coastline. To their surprise, the crew of the Arctic Warrior discover what appears to be the Antonia Graza, a famous Italian ocean liner, legendary for its luxury, which vanished without a trace in 1962. While they at first anticipate the payday of a lifetime from this find, the crew soon discover a sinister force has taken control of the ship, and before long they're battling not for salvage rights, but for their lives. Ghost Ship was directed by special effects man turned filmmaker Steven Beck, who previously directed the 2001 remake of 13 Ghosts.

That's one of the scariest things to happen a ship that big just pops out of nowhere
Imagine finding a sailing ship with its entire crew frozen to death and perfectly preserved, just drifting aimlessly in the Arctic for 13 years. Captain frozen stiff at his desk in the middle of writing a journal entry.
The Octavius' story is scary. Can't blame the whalers who supposedly found those guys for leaving in a hurry.
What about the ss ourang medan
@@Tiger0408 that is one of the mystery of the sea..
Would you board it? I would despite being scared out of my whits
A Swedish sailor aboard the Stockholm, the ship that sank the Andrea Doria, said a huge black wall suddenly emerged from the fog and that it was the scariest thing he had ever seen.
The Stockholm was on the wrong navigation side, on board they misinterpreted the radar data and did not activate the fog horn, the collision was inevitable.
Sorry for my English and love from Italy ❤
The design for the "Antonia Graza" was modeled after the "Andrea Doria" (a man's name), a real-life Italian ocean liner that also met a tragic fate: it sank in the 1950s after colliding with another liner. Contrary to this fact, the "Antonia Graza" actually shows a stronger resemblance to the 'Leonardo Da Vinci', a slightly altered and larger design which replaced the Doria after she sank.
Yeah, she does more closely resemble the Leonardo da Vinci than the Andrea Doria, though both are similar ships. As for the Antonia Graza's interiors, the Art Deco-style rooms seem to be inspired by the French liner Normandie.
I remember that story. The captain of the French liner Île de France decided to turn around after sailing past the Andrea Doria a few hours prior and come back to save the passenger.
The liner she struck was the MS Stockholm, a ship that would survive even to today, now sailing as the MV Astoria
Its so fitting
It eased under the waves like an old man into a warm bath
I was searching abandoned ships/ghost ships and this popped up. I love these types of stories where it’s in the ocean. It’s crazy how we only explored 5% of the ocean. Who knows what’s out there.
If you haven't seen this movie yet, I highly recommend it! One of my all time favorites
So true we have no idea was outthier
Quibble time: As soon as the Captain saw that ship on the radar, they should have cut speed to 1 - 5 knots. Were they in a hurry for a possible mid-ocean collision?
Well, it appeared and disappeared at will, it gets confusing it it's there or not...
@@GameDjeenie Even so, what would it hurt to slow down until you could get a visual?
They WERE in a hurry - they wanted to lay claim to the derelict before any other salvagers found it, and the guy told them other parties were already looking for it. But, yeah... you'd think slowing down a little wouldn't hurt under the circumstances.
@@0megacron Okay - be in a hurry when you are 50 miles out, 10 miles out, etc. But a few hundred yards off with no one else on the scope? Nah, the scriptwriters were just being sloppy here.
@@thomasgray8488 It's a movie. Calm down, weirdo.
Actually, that was a pretty good movie.
Indeed it was.
very underrated !
It kept going over my mind, again and again...
It could have been much better and scarier
It was
I always thought it was odd that only the captain recognized her. If a famous ocean liner disappeared without a trace in the 1960's I would imagine It would be one of the most famous mysteries in history. Everyone on a salvage tug at least would know her by name.
I love this film. I stand by this film. People need to calm down about this film. It's great.
Take a shot everytime this guy says "film"
I second your comment about the film BTW.
This was my favorite movie when I was SIX. How I was fine watching this back then but I can't sit 5 minutes in a horror movie as a 22 year old, I will never know
This was my favorite movie 10 years ago (im 13 now) my grandmother had a huge dvd collection and i found the movie. My mother didn't care because she loved horror movies too. I love this film
This film is rated R 🤦🏻♂️

Even though this movie wasn’t real I could feel the relief of the souls that no longer had to go thru that much pain
I watch that movie since 2008-2014.
Ghost Ship is like Event Horizon but in the sea
@@therealist3495 : That.
Never realized but event horizon is one of my fav films
There is no other ghost ship like the event horizon. To this day no one knows where that ship went and what it bought back...
@@guyonabudget5209 im guessing it wound up in the warp
Wise One1494 That's just what happens when you forget to turn on your Gellar field.
Fun fact his story of the Mary Celeste is based on true events. I love this movie, severely underrated for its time!
That was the ghost child warning them to turn around when the ship vanished the first time ❤
Dude i never knew how good movie effects were even back then
Crystal Paw it was the 2000s already budd. watch Ben Hur (1950s). Now thats astoinishing!
The SENATE yeah :P
The SENATE Whay are you doing here? Shouldn't you be fighting kylo and Rey ??
if you watch the bonus feature the boat is a scale modle of the boat and the back ground is a green screen with the help of CG graphics.
@@elekdanieltoth6671 Huh ? There'S 2020 movies with huge budget and horrible CGI...
Thank you Julianna i got my more my friend moments with salvage crew with desmond you remember sleepover 2020 in October
When drake gets mad when he got with Katie 😂
Always one of the best horror movie out there, cool soundtrack, badass f**kin cool cast and awesome story
Love this movie!!
Gabriel Byrne's outfit (Murphy) is a clear tribute to his charcter in 'The usual suspect' and I really love this thing! XD
Opening scene was amazingly gruesome and I loved it
best name for an ocean liner.
nah, theres better names.
My name is Antonia!!
what do you mean ?
Hands down
@ Renji Parkers No, it's not. Sounds actually quite ridiculous. No 'Graza' name or surname in Italian, it looks and sounds like a typo. It does exist 'Grazia' but I supposed producers were too lazy to do some correct name research. They also botched ANY Italian wording on the ship, from door plates to the Ship Journal. Gross grammar mistakes, typos and made-up words pretty much everywhere in the film. The 'best' is the label on the rat poison bottle: totally wrong and laughable.
I completely forgot that Karl Urban was in this one. Neat.
didn't even realize that was him
I have to wonder how long in real life an Ocean Liner of this era could float for if for some reason everyone just disappeared from it and nobody stumbled across it and assuming it didn't get carried by currents to land.
BDNeon well this has some very variable answers. It depends on the model of the liner. Frist of all if everybody leaves instantly it may have an engine faillure and an explosion may sunk the liner in minutes. Secondly the body of the liner may rust and become more sensitive untill it get’s broken down. That would take a lot of years. Thirdly it may get hit by an object such as an unseen undetermined rock or even a ship like this movie. That could end up tearing a hole in the body. Last but not least. It would mostlikely get hit by some wawes untill the ship loses it’s balance and flips around 180.
it makes sense to say that it kept floating for so many years because of the supernatural forces that rule the ship.
well the Lyubov Orlova was cut loose near Canada and ended up near Ireland a few months later. No one knows where it is now, though it may have sunk
I mean idk about huge ocean liners in the sea but there was that small vessel that floated for almost 30 yers or so after it became trapped it ice. But I honestly think it would depend on the tech that it was made off and built of. I mean you see the kind of maintenance they have to do for the QM or old war ships to control rust on the hull
The Baychimo has been floating around since 1931. It's still out there waiting to be found again.
"arctic warrior' sounds like some cliche screen name in a MMO game lol
haha so true
The name is already in use. Please, choose another one.
Watch the Most Dangerous Catch. There are vessels in the Artic with similar names, in fact I believe there is an actual "Artic Warrior"
It’s quite common from Crabbing Trawlers to choose funky names. Such as The Wizard
sounds like the name of a power metal band
The creaking of the Antonia graza is just freaky. I hate that sound like you'd never believe.
To me, the creaking makes the antonia graza sound alive, almost like she is trying to warn the salvagers to leave.
not only that but the ships age too adds to it.
On the first sight, Antonia Graza looks like legendary Andrea Doria and her sister Christoforo Colombo. But also, She looks like portugalian cruise ship MS Principe Perfeito. Opened promenade deck, funnel, bridge on the stern, superstucture in the captain bridge area and other details.
The scene where the dead corpse hung out from the closet scared the living hell out of me when I watched this movie!! 😮
When He Said “An Ocean Liner.” That Immediately Made Me Think Of TUGS. About The 3 Ocean Liners. The Duchess, Vienna And Princess Alice.
When I see Gabriel Byrne I wonder if Keyser Söze put that ship there.
Unfortunately, whenever I see him, my first thought is always that awful Schwarzenegger horror movie where Gabriel Byrne played Satan.
@@khymaaren but Gabriel Byrne in that movie dies in a metro
Alex guys calm down sorry you both being funny I like that your funny moments
I've been going crazy trying to find what happened to the models of the Antonia Graza and the Arctic Warrior after the making of the movie, but sadly I couldn't find anything.
@The Eternal Induction because ship models made for movies are cool - often huge and elaborately detailed. I believe the model of the Queen Mary, made for 'The Poseidon Adventure' is in a museum in New England. The Titanic from 'Raise the Titanic' was steel-hulled and 40 feet long but unfortunately ended up neglected on a Greek island and is now beyond saving. The ship in this movie was closely modelled on the Andrea Doris, which sank in the 50s. If there is a model (and it wasn't all CGI by that point) it would be cool to see it.
From Wiki:
The idea of filming on a real ship was continually brought up, and a few ships were scouted for the possibility of being used as the Antonia Graza. "The temptation was always to shoot on the real thing," Beck says. "We actually visited a few [ships] , but every time we thought, 'How are we ever going to get a dolly through this alley? Or down this hallway?' When you're shooting you often have to punch through a wall in order to get the shot you need, and on a steel ship that's impossible. We knew the real thing would be far too limiting."
Instead of using an actual ship, Australian visual effects company Photon VFX, who prior had worked on the 2002 film Scooby-Doo, was hired as the principal contractor for all visual effects. Which allowed Warner Bros. to take full advantage of the wide spectrum of services offered including CGI, animation, miniatures, live-action, prosthetics, pyrotechnics and aerial, underwater and motion control cinematography.
The SS Andrea Doria served as the inspiration for the film's ship the Antonia Graza. Photon created a 35-foot 1/20th scale model of the ship, allowing the exterior shots to be a combination of CGI, miniature, and live-action footage.[6] For certain exterior shots a miniature just wouldn't work, so instead a full-scale fore deck and bow were constructed. "It was a full scale replica, so it wouldn't have fit into a studio," Walker explains. "It also needed to have sky backgrounds surrounding it, so we built it on a hill to achieve the desired effect."

This Man of Medan game looks legit lol.
for all the kids ,.,.this is a great movie .,sit tight and watch while you still can,..,
This movie is great and all but the craziest thing about the movie was the gold discovered aboard the graza but the guy that knew about the gold that came off the luraline was trying to kill and turn those against each other the gold wasnt actually worth dying for
They cut the best part when santos was listening to mudvayne
The thing I like about tugs is how quickly the engines rev up seen at 1:24
All of the Graza's lifeboats are gone. What happened to them, I wonder?
Thank you remember me tv viewer from watching you from 2002
I saw the movie when I was nine, and I thought the Antonia Graza was real. I dreamed of winning the lottery and buying a tugboat to go out and search for her. I was convinced she floated out there somewhere. I really wished for it. But I was convinced that the story of the gold and haunting wasn't true. I didn't even care that much about the gold. My intention was to tow her to port, repair her and get her back in service. But this time, I wanted her to be just for me and my family. Our personal ocean liner! I was enchanted by her beauty, and she was totally my ship of dreams. I dreamed of finding her when I was in my country, Ukraine, and when I moved to Greece. It followed me everywhere, and still follows me. Even after I found out she was fictional, the suspense of her story never seemed to let go of me. Like if you had the same situation. З України є хто? Έλληνας κανείς?
I watched this movie over 200 times since I was a kid. I was very much in love with the ocean liner.
Cool story bro.
She was a real ship... Her real name was Andrea Doria, though she sank before this movie ever began, she was *ACCIDENTALLY* rammed by the MS Stockholm
its so sad that all of these italian liners have been scrapped now, look up the pictures of the SS leonardo da vinci, also of the Italian Line, such a beautiful ship inside and out
Happy Thanksgiving Gabriel crew members Karl Alex isah ron Happy Thanksgiving guys

Under rated horror movie 👻 ⛵
When they pan out and show the boat in the water, it looks like a truck driving in water. Boats don't go straight ahead like that, they rock all around.
Models in a pool.
@@TraustiGeir This scene was actually recorded at sea, with the hull of the Graza being a real setpiece that was constructed
@@matthew3774 Really? Those were some remarkably calm waters.
@@TraustiGeir I may be wrong, the hull was definitely a custom built setpiece, but it may have been placed in and recorded in a lake or something. I know it almost certainly wasn't in the actual Bering sea

Realistically they'd probably be followed into the area by some sort of US Navy Vessel, then after identifying the ship, ordered to maneuver out of the area, then the ship would serve as target practice for a destroyer, cruiser, or possibly even a whole carrier flotilla

I actually live this movie, It's not perfect but i like it. It's nostalgic and conforting now, I was 10 when I saw it the first time. The only thing that makes me mad are the writings in Italian: the translations are all wrong (the only correct one is that of the fire extinguisher). Reading 'Cabina di Capitano' is always painful but the notes written under the photos that the captain of the Graza shows to Byrne are meaningless. Heck, consult someone who knows Italian! They had Italian actors in the cast, they could ask them at least for the photo's note!
ButI love the movie anyway ❤
