Aurora uses song writing as therapy as a way of helping her face fears. The lyrics for this tune are penned from the victim's perspective: "He holds the gun against my head. I close my eyes, then bang! I'm dead." In this song she deals with the difficult things we must do to protect the people we love.
Aurora said to the 405: "It's a tragic love story. Very tragic. The saddest thing is that he really loves her." *This is what i found on her Wiki page. I have a theory on my own that she is Mother Earth and the man with the gun is the human race.

agreed. cause for me, i interpret it as a tragic love song. A man with ptsd and trauma, that have not gotten the help he needed, when he needed it, ends up killing the one person he loves the most, in order to "spare" her for the trauma that life throws at you, because of the lyrics "I know, he knows, he is killing me for mercy" and not "I know he is killing me for mercy" seems just like an aknowledgement that she knows the reason he is killing her, its because of his trauma and the pain he keep reliving and can never escape, and to spare her from that. He still take away her choice and her life.. and might have been able to be avoided if he only got the help he clearly needed in time, and the consequences of it was tragic.. much like in society today..

Aurora is a queen of live performances, you should watch more of her live, she is incredible to watch and Even more incredible to listen to as she delivers everything perfect and more so, each and every single time. Her live performances enriches her music like no MV ever can, because she is the perfect live artist, live stage is s canvas for her, and she always paint her songs brand New, everytime.
This is one of my favorite songs of her, she has so many versions of it, always twist and turns it live. So no matter how many times you've listen to the song, it will feels little bit new each time she performs it, so you shouldn't be afraid to react to the same song from her om diffrent performances, og MV for that matter.
This song is said to be part two of the song "it happend quiet", if it is true I am not sure, but they do share the same darknes and the same storytelling aspect that she delivers so perfect.
I will recomend this version, Even though every version is good, but this is one of my favorite. And it is an incredible song that should be heard.

she is such a wonderful writer, she writes so the song means what "you" want it to mean. based on true live story but simplify so it could be about your dog, grandmother or whatever.
hell, there are only three basic lines in the song but her eyes, her hands, her body tell a story on there own. she even gives herself the shivers. at the end, if watch closely, you can see her come back from wherever she was to the here and now as the audience starts to clap.
    captivating!

At this time Aurora was 19. Find another 19 year old who could write a song like this, then deliver a mesmerizing performance at such a prestigious international event, good luck with that. You have done a number of Aurora reactions and been blown away but you have just scratched the surface. There are four things you now need to do, not necessarily as reactions but for your own pleasure 1/ Take a look at some of the clips of interviews she has done to get more insight (There is one from Norwegian TV with her older sisters Miranda and Viktoria, who do her make-up and costumes and a short one where she teaches how to do a somersault). Aurora is intelligent, wise, funny, cheeky, playful, honest and quirky (At the press conference for the Nobel concert, with so many famous people there, Aurora took a pine cone with her to help her focus). 2/ Check out the live version of "Conqueror" from the Honda Stage to see her interact with the audience and smile and dance with joyful abandon. 3/ Watch "Through The Eyes Of A Child" from her concert at the Nidarosdomen (Cathedral in Trondheim with orchestra and choir) and be utterly spellbound. 4/ Finish with "Daydreamer" from the HAIK concert filmed in the forest where Aurora played during her childhood. This petite powerhouse of artistic expression is almost beyond words, in "Daydreamer" she says "I know I'm just a girl but can I change the World?", my answer is YES. I think you might agree.

I find she uses the metaphor that words are weapons alot (ie: they are pointy, sharp, cutting). I feel like this song is about someone you care about giving you bad news(like breaking up). It hits you like a bullet. It can destroy you. It might ultimately be for the better in the end, but in the moment when the words go off, it can feel like getting shot.

    • @icecreamassassin3006

I hadn't heard it was a murder suicide. I thought it was a euthanasia of his wife who had an untreatable tumor and she was in aweful pain. I think the story came out because of the man's trial. The way she sings part of the chorus is the woman's ghost trying to appeal to the people to not hold him criminally liable for her death. "He didn't mean to do no harm... he did it all to save me from the awful things in life that comes, and he cried and cried."

We had to pull the plug on my mom's life support when I was 20. She had been in a coma for 8 days, because of an accidental (we'll never be sure, she never woke up) painkiller overdose. This song hits the nail on the head. It's funny that this song confronts me with trauma, but it's healing me. This is the power of aurora's music for me. She is really young but she sounds like an ancient spirit. It comes straight from her heart and soul and I have never heard anything quite like it.

This is "Murder Song", not euthanasia song. She takes us into the mind of the murderer. He loves her and yet has killed her. This is about the thought and emotion prisons we can build for ourselves, convincing ourselves that black is white, obsession is love, murder is mercy. Whether it was unrequited feelings or jealousy or a truly insane belief system that precipitated the murder no long matters... the murderer cries and cries in the pain of his mental prison. And is this what she thinks about in those last five seconds while drifting away? Her sympathy makes no sense as she has had everything taken from her. Love is wild. Aurora turns us inside out in a three minute song.

    (trigger warning ⚠️)
My view, this is a serious award ceremony.
The peace prize takes into account war, genocide, violence against women.
People pushed to the limits of horror & desperation.
Yes Aurora sings about a couple faced with a terrible situation. But in a wider sense this piece of art, i think, is about the reality of being "spared" of torture by a loved one during a genocide. There are many examples of this kind of horror still in our world today, Aurora shines a light on this, she doesn't look away. That's why her artwork was chosen.

The words seem so simple and direct to me but perhaps to know the countdown to death, you have to a have the person you love most die from cancer or some other debilitating illness. In that last six months preceding death you see the wasting, the pain, the suffering and you live with it. There is also the contradiction that your loved one, when times are darkest, sometimes want to die. It is a temptation to step in and do something about it. I know, I've been there. In the end, I believe most people want to have every moment of life they can. Somehow Aurora conveys all of that in this four minute video. She is an observer, who in the act of dying, understands the messenger, and gives frenetic expression to what she knows is coming. BTW, Hospice facilities in the US know all of these things and they try to make dying a little easier on everyone. At least those last couple of days. I think of this as one of the greatest performances ever done. Thanks for the reaction. It should be seen by everyone.

I've heard an interpretation that the song represents a metaphor for ending a relationship. I like this interpretation. Aurora herself does seldom provide interpretations as she wants listeners to make our own. The only comment i know she has made is that "the tragedy is that he really loves her". Still leaves a lot open to personal interpretations.

My first impression of this song was that the victim here was trying to convince themselves that the “abuse” or end given to them by the gun holder was the right thing to do. And that the person meant well and was protecting them not trying to hurt them. They were showing the victim mercy. In the end the victim is too conditioned to believe the good in the abuser to see the bad. I don’t know if that made sense.

To me, I know not all people agree with me, its a song about putting a loved one or pet down, out of love, to save them suffering, as seen from the perspective of the pet/loved one.
Its just.. it fits, it resonates with me. Aurora always makes me cry. She is en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sei%C3%B0r . She can weave things into reality. She makes me realize we are all one godlike creature: leaves, from the same tree of life. We are Odins eyes. We are one. Thanks to music like heilung and aurora, I rediscovered the ancient nordic pagan way to look at religion to be, in a poëtic way, the most complete. This song ha many layers. the immediate is of course the direct literl story. But another interpretation/layer is growing also. That he (the murderer) is humankind and she is nature. We kill her and we know we do that but we continue knowing what we do, but unable to stop. Auroras songs mean different things for different people

Aurora has said that its a love song - it’s dark and in some ways cruel. This song deals with the difficult or hard things we must sometimes do/suffer to protect the people we love ❤️

One theory about the song is that the woman is mother earth and the man with the gun represents the human race. She hasn't said explicitly what the song is about so this is a fan theory based on that she's also a green activist.

well the song is "murder song", not "assisted suicide" song. In the mind of the man who pulls the trigger, of course he is doing it for mercy, the one reason he deems right. Whats love for him, is murder for everyone else. You know, love won't make a murder right.

When I hear the song I automatically think of father and daughter. The father is depressed and only sees the bad and cruel in the world. He doesn't want his daughter to suffer the same as he does and thinks he is doing the right thing in stealing her life. He'll probably kill himself after that. And she sings from the perspective of the daughter's spirit, who is just seeing what the father has just done.
    This is really hard song.
This happens every day in the world.

First - I'm German and in the attempt to express what I think I'll come very close to the edge of my english abilities. So don't judge me on that.
What I think is that there are many very crazy people out there and among them are some who actually have that twisted way of expressing love or protection. When you think of artists that were killed - e.g. John Lennon or Christina Grimmie - they were killed by fans, not by haters. I can imagine Aurora means something like that. She ones said about this song: "The sad thing about is, that he really loved her". I think the song is not that metaphorical as you interpret it.

This song is for me a great analogy for ending a bad relationship. A merciful ending of a bad thing even though you love that person.
The 5.4.3.2.1 in the BEGINNING is of course analogous to the ending, as one would count down before shooting a gun to end someones life.
The 5.4.3.2.1 in the END is to me analogous to how you would fire a starting pistol for a race, now its for the beginning of what comes after - the start of your new life.
Atleast i like to think of it this way, and this way it sort of ends on a lighter note.

My mothers schoolmate got in this situation. His wife suffered cancer and one evening after dinner she told him that she wanted him to kill her with sleeping pills. They were talking about her death. Can you imagine how horrible this must have been. And yes - he did it. For her. Cause she really wanted it.

I believe she wrote the song after hearing about a man who killed his terminally ill wife (to end her suffering)

  • @rogersjgregory
    @rogersjgregory 3 года назад +1

If we take the song literally, then the man who kills her sees the world only one way. The world is full of pain and suffering. The only future he can see is one of suffering, and so, in his eyes at least, by taking her life he is saving her from the pain he believes she will experience. He has lost all hope.

Everything you say about this song makes sense. However, I believe the song has to be whatever we put into it. It can be a song about euthanasia, but it can also be a story about being killed by your lover. There are many who are killed by the person they trust and love. The lyric may also fit as an explanation, those killers use as an excuse for killing the person they love. I love your interpretation and your review. Thank you!
