As an LGBTQ person, I really appreciate that you warned me about that story. I chose to listen to it, but I absolutely understand why some wouldn’t
    Thank you, Ben & Ernie

Checking the category balance (not the bank balance) before spending is game changing. People using budgeting and sticking to plan would see growing bank balance. Awesome!

All of these are giving me goosebumps! Thank you for doing this episode! I certainly think you should do more at the ends of episodes and maybe one of these a quarter for reinvigorating all of us!

I enjoyed this episode as a testament to YNAB users applying the excellent rules and sticking to them. WELL DONE everyone! I would like to see a YNAB WIns on a regular basis, maybe semiannually or quarterly. Ben and Ernie organizing them into themes made it fun, too.

YNAB win was a great episode. Sometimes we don’t appreciate all the positive wins going on because of every day life.

Loved this episode so much! It's incredibly empowering and encouraging to hear real life wins that give hope that anyone can do it too. So much more powerful than the abstract concept of knowledge to real life quality gain. Thanks so much guys

I’d not been understanding about overassigning
I’ve been putting more in my catergories than needed to be there. I thought that was sensible as it meant wouldn’t go over
To take a concrete example: I try to assign $20 a month to go to the cafe, because sometimes I just need to get out of the house, you know?
I thought if I put, say, $80 in “cafe” that was sensible as it meant I wouldn’t go over
In practice, I’ve felt like going to cafe, quick glance at “cafe” on my phone, money in there, off I go
    Result: overspending
I’ve been going that across multiple categories. For months
    Oh.
    Lightbulb moment
Thanks YNAB app for pointing that out!

Thanks for the heads-up on your teaching material. I was planning a financial seminar for my church this spring and stressing about getting the right material and organizing my thoughts in the right way. (doing it all from scratch) I will check out your material and hopefully use it.

Ben, why don't you use the YNAB together feature for your kids? I have this for my son of 8y. I have 1 row in my budget, which contains his value of money. And he has his own budget where he can categorize for stuff. We do his weekly allowance together, and he assigns the money then and there. He has a lego, skates and "free spending" categories, and every time he needs to decide to either get closer to his lego or skates goal, or add it to his free spending category, which he then uses for crappy stuff for a couple of euros.
Really curious what your idea of this is.
When he wants to buy something, we buy it for him and we subtract it from our budget and from his.

Hey, good question. YNAB together is only meant for teenagers age 13+. I am thinking of giving them a section on my budget though. At first, I thought cash would be a little more concrete for them, but my two oldest are getting to an age where handling it digitally makes more sense so I might explore that soon. I'll be they'd love it! :) ~BenB

Just using YNAB has really lowered my random Amazon spending. Because if I don't have the money in a category to spend then I don't impulse buy on Amazon.

Regarding money you give as loan to your friends, I have a category called reimbursements to record such transactions. But when they pay me back , do i add to the to be budgeted and then put in the reimbursement? How is a good way to handle such transactions. I dont want that to show as income again as its just paying back after some time. Thanks for all the knowledge share you guys are doing.

    • @YNABofficial
      @YNABofficial  10 месяцев назад

If you don't want that to show up as income, categorize directly to your reimbursement category. And if you ever end up having money in that category you don't need, you can move it wherever you want. Hope that helps! ~Ernie
