    I have not used cold pressed to say if it's better or not, but I get great results from hydrophobic concentrate. Mixed in a pump spayer directly with hose water. Personally I would never apply dish soap to my garden though. I will pick a small bottle of cold pressed up and compare.

    After last year(first year at a new house,) I had a myriad of issues. I didn't have much equipment so we made a few small investments(cheap grow lights, and small heat mats. A lot of things got leggy even with a fully glassed in porch. Then when I transplanted the deer, rabbits, moles, voles, and bugs just had a field day. We also have clay soil. So I can convinced my wife that since some of our plants are perennials and we already have enough pots, that if she wanted her veggies again we should use that money we won't be spending this year to upgrade some things. So we invested in a Spider Farmer 200watt grow light(which has been AMAZING,) three 8'x4' raised beds, posts for the beds, netting to go around the raised beds, chicken wire to place at the bottom of the beds to keep out moles and voles, and cattle panel to make an archway between 2 of the beds. Neem oil will be on the list of things this year and I did have a bug a disease problem last year, and I would like to keep my lettuce, greens, and all other veggies healthy. I am hoping with all of that, maybe this year I won't be fighting all that stuff all the time.

    Good stuff :-) Just heard about neem oil and very excited to go try it this spring and summer! For those wondering about bugs, you need to avoid moonlight when planting crops for best avoidance of bugs, worms, etc. Also, a mesh border helps alot when first planting.

    I used a tablespoon of Kirkland dishwashing soap from Costco as surfactant/emulsifier on 0.5 gallon or 56 oz (I got the same sprayer as yours) of water plus a tea spoon of Neem oil and a few drops of peppermint oil. I sprayed it on the rose bush/shrub plant leaves. I hope this should be ok specifically on the emulsifier I used. What do you think?

    • @ScottHead
      @ScottHead  4 года назад +1

      Sounds like a good emulsifier to me.

  • @mikeschweichler7685
    @mikeschweichler7685 4 года назад +2

    Hey Scott, Great videos. I've watched several and most recently the video on spraying neem oil. I had a problem spraying my cabbage and broccoli with an oil based cover sent, peppermint. I don't think it was the peppermint that caused damage to the plants but the Palmolive dish soap I used to break up the oil did. The leaves looked burned on the edges and in some places, large patches of leaves were damaged. Watching your video on Neem oil, you recommended mixing it with dish soap. How would I use neem oil on the cabbage family plants?

    • @ScottHead
      @ScottHead  4 года назад +1

      Hmm, usually Neem oil on leafy plants is not a good idea. If you have insects and caterpillars in cabbage, they often go to the inside and no spray will kill them. Outside damage is often slugs and snails. Not sure how to get the neel emulsified in the water without the soap, maybe try it half-strength?

    • @mikeschweichler7685
      @mikeschweichler7685 4 года назад +3

      @@ScottHead that was the trick. First time I used soap to emulsify the oils, I used too much. You and the other guys said "Least amount needed", I just didn't listen. So for you guys out there spraying for bugs with neem oil or using rosmary, peppermint or any other oil based product, start with small amounts of soap and increase to where the oil mostly emulsifies. It does work. Oh, And, Most of my green Caterpillar cabbage worms are gone. Especially in my broccoli. Thanks scott.

    Now can u spray that on plants that have fruits and peppers growing on it? Like spraying it on the actual fruit growings? Will that change the flavor or should I cover fruits and peppers that are growing while spraying the cold press neem oil solution?

    • @ScottHead
      @ScottHead  3 года назад +1

      You will want to wash the oil off of any fruit that gets sprayed, its just an oil on the outer surface and shouldn't change the flavor of peppers and fruits with a waxy skin. But don't spray it on blossoms, it ruins their ability to get poliinated and to pass pollen to others.

    Try using Neem Oil with as avocado seed. Remove the peeling of the seed, cut it into pieces and use a coffee grinder if you have one, used 5 or 6 seed to a gallon of water, let it boil for 10 or 15 minutes, than let it seat 24 hours, use a strainer to avoid your sprayer getting clogged. For one part of the avocado solution add 4 parts of infiltrated water, add your Neem oil and you will never regret it. Good luvk.
