Deselect is a breath of fresh air. Starting a podcast is daunting, but editing is the area we have the least experience. I have been a writer my whole life and this makes it sound possible!! Pick me, pick us for the prize. We will use it wisely and suggest it everywhere in our accountability groups!
Good evening I believe that script would help my husband and I with our podcast because we are beginners yet we are college students and it sounds like it would be a lot easier for us to use this in regards to editing like you said in the video when you write something or have been writing for years, then it will be simple and we want something easy yet great
AS somebody who mispronounces and slips up when recording their podcasts the ease of using descript to correct and alter my emmms and errs will be fantastic.
I’m just getting started with my podcast and I’ve been going through watching everything I can find on how to do this quickly and effectively without feeling overwhelmed. Descript is my number one option to try first when it comes to editing software. I know you said that it may not translate in the audio accurately if you change the text sometimes but re-recording smaller snippets instead of having to re-record the whole thing seems like it would be much easier. Plus I know I use a lot of filler words so being able to see the text is going to help me immensely. I am sure I am not the only one that fits this description but I am also a single mom who works a full-time job and a part-time job on top of getting this podcast going so being able to use a platform that is going to allow me to see a transcript versus having to block everything else out to go back and listen. I really feel like this is going to be a game changer.
Great to see your enthusiasm, Trosky! Descript actually offers a free plan that could assist you as you're starting out. Try it out and let us know how it goes.
I’m 66y/o and have decided to start podcasting. Editing can be a nightmare so the use of descript would be a blessing. Thank you for producing this insightful video. 🙏🏾
I had to do a few episodes of a podcast for a project in an English class and I used Descript and it made it super easy to record and edit! Because I have no experience with any kind of audio editing, I was looking for something that I could learn and record in just a day or two so this video really saved my grade. It also made it easier to have some outline to go off of, if it's not fully scripted, that way if you do get off track all you have to do is delete the sections you don't need and add in some kind of transition to merge ideas. I'm over two years late but know that your videos help many in the long run as some of my peers also used this video to help with this project. TYSM!
Thank you so much for leaving this comment! I was an English major as well and that's why I gravitated to Descript. This way of editing a podcast works so much better for me!
My podcast Stories of Stories of Sacrifice, I do both interview and read information. I have a speech disability where I repeat words often and by using Descript it will not only help me in my workflow having to go back and delete all the extra words, but help me complete the transcripts as well. I will have to give Descript a try! Thank you Buzzsprout for all the support you give to your subscribers! I am very happy I switched my podcast over to Buzzsprout!
I have edited 9 episodes on GarageBand already, I am just starting my podcast, and would love to have a tool which speeds up the process. It sounds like Descript could help me delete the mistakes I have made recording much easier, plus I also will have a transcript. This should improve my SEO too. Thank you for providing all this content. It is really helping me learn how to prepare and format my podcast, and hopefully the content will be of value to my chronic illness tribe. Fatigue is a big problem for people with Multiple Sclerosis, people like me, and anything which makes like easier is hugely welcome.
Just starting a podcast and to be honest, Descript looks user-friendly and professional. It would really help me save time and money starting out. Thank you for mentioning Descript, I didn't know it was out there.
I was thinking about starting a podcast, I have a lot of topics that I discuss with my friends, family, co-workers, and just about anyone that will listen, about topics that get missed, the ones that don't make CNN or DateLine, but shedding light to these topics would bring my heart so much joy. Being that I'm a visual learner and need to be able to read something before I can turn something in, Descript would be a huge blessing for me, it would help the jump off be much smoother, easier when it comes to editing my content and would also help if the price was one last thing I had to worry about, even if it would be for a year, that year would really help me get my podcast off the ground and help me to better edit my videos. Thank you :)
I am NEW to Podcasting and Descript may just be what I need 🙌 As a visual creator in the world of audio this “think outside the box method” unites my visual strengths with my new found love, Podcasting! Winning a year of Descript would truly help me start my podcasting journey since I’m not very technically savvy, and it definitely sounds like a winning combination to me! 🤞🌟👍
I used Descript for the first time today after watching this video to edit my new podcast Sistas & Sauvignon (shameless plug, I know 😉). Being a complete novice to the podcast editing game, I was super intimidated by audacity and the likes with their waveforms and audio levels. Being able to just hit the delete button on the transcript and keep moving was amazing for me. It does take a bit getting used to but I’m sure after a few more edits, I’ll be flying through in no time.
I am an experienced public speaker who first performed on live TV is an 11-year-old and fully capable of presenting a complete well structured speech from the podium. If I’m only given the title when I arrive there I’m also an author and I have some great ideas I’d like to get across in a podcast but I’m 76 years old and an idiot when it comes to IT so I need all the help I can get and getting started on this one started I can do it.
Hey there Bill! Here is a complete guide on how to start a podcast: www.buzzsprout.com/blog/how-to-start-a-podcast If you need further assistance or have any questions, please don't hesitate to send us an email at support@buzzsprout.com. We're here to help!
I am starting a new podcast and love to start it in Descript. I think the editing feature is great because I'm more visual and this will help me start my podcast. Thanks.
I love Descript because I'm able to clean up the filler words. 🎙I use it at the beginning of my editing workflow and then import the files into Hindenburg Journalist Pro and continue the process. ( which I'll invest it after the 3-month trial ends, thanks for this amazing offer to buzzsprout podcasters). So Hindy and Descript together are a game-changer for podcaster and editors! 💚Thank you for doing this giveaway, it's so valuable gift so looking forward to it!
For sure Descript will help me to become a really professional audio for my Podcast, of course it’s very beginning for me - just little more than one month - but I’m always thinking in a pro way. Thanks for that amazing RUclips channel btw guys. Cheers from Sao Paulo, Brazil
Absolutely agree. I am amazed that Buzzsprout didn't include Reaper in their list. Very backward. Even better, the price is only $60 for a one time purchase, no stupid restrictions as in Descript.
I have wanted to do an educational podcast for about a year, but editing is kind of intimidating for me as I have had little experience with editing and even less with wave form. I did live radio in college so I created a space to record , made a pop filter for the mic and have made test recordings, but I have been stuck on figuring out how to edit. Thanks to you, Descript will be my on ramp to podcasting. I intend to give away the transcripts as well so people can read the info if they need to refer to it. I am hoping that Descipt will actually be most of my workflow, but probably not all. Seriously, thanks Buzzsprout, I had read about Descript but was hesitant to spend money on it as I am new, but if you are starting to recommend it, I am in. I am currently half way through written scripts for the first season, and hearing about Descript has got me back on the laptop. Way to inspire Buzzsprout!
Thank you. Great info. I just started to explore Garage Band as a Podcast tool. I've been discovering the addition of guests is possible (4 mic's and what's required to do so), writing out an outline to use as a guide helps in final post production time and costs, rather than conducting a free for all, ask the 1st question and just see how it goes - yikes - in editing) And now this, an intro to the top 5 editing software systems. I can see growing with Descript. It's like the 1st time I bought the best hockey skates money could buy before going for tryouts with a Dutch hockey team in 1976 (CCM Tacks, by the way). If you have high aspirations, I say grow with the best equipment. Thanks again for the info... Happy New Years Day 2021
Audacity is my FAV! I was a radio announcer for 10 years and it's the closest to the software we used at the radio stations. Thanks for this video brother!
I use S1 (Studio One) with waves plugins. But I have a background in music production. If you have a Mac 🖥 Go with GarageBand and apply yourself to learning it RUclips video’s etc. There are so many choices but if your serious about being independent learn a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation).
Totally intrigued by Descript...I know I get intimidated by the editing aspect, and doing edits by text seems luke something I can wrap my head around! Hopefully will get the chance to try it out!
I often struggle a lot with pauses in between sentences, which kind off affects the final outcome of the flow in the podcast. So the transcript reading part of DESCRIPT would help me overcome that part and make the podcast better
I’m a theology grad student with 2 podcasts in the works to launch this year. I know nothing about and am intimidated by the idea of audio editing. I’m a talker but the back end is not my forte. This software sounds like an answer to prayer.
I think Descript would help with providing transcriptions, as many people who are hard of hearing want to consume podcasts. Some people prefer to consume text. Cutting out the um’s, uh’s, misstarts and misspeaks would definitely be helpful as well.
At the start of the year I started my podcast after wanting to for awhile. I took a lot of time making sure I was ready to tackle whatever would come up throughout the process. But being some one entering the space with no background it's been hard. It takes me a long time to edit and sometimes I'm not sure if what I am doing will help make the audio better. Descript would help this process as I come from a space of writing and am more intune with editing that way. I feel like it would also save me time in the long run.
As a new beginner to Podcasts, I believe Descript would give me a beginning head start to make me more successful allowing me to concentrate on the podcast content instead of all the editing that needs to be to publish the podcast.
Oh man, I say like a lot. Like, A LOT. I’ve gotten better, and I do work from a full script (which would make editing from a transcript amazing) , but in banter with my co-host, I like to edit out some of the likes, and the ummmms, and the uhhhs…and wait, this video was posted over two years ago…you probably already picked a winner, huh. Well, I smashed the subscribe before the giveaway was mentioned, so thanks for the valuable resource regardless!!
Oh man, the transcript possibilities are endless! If Descript is as fully capable as advertised, it would save so much time copy/pasting into blog posts and show notes. I'm all about efficiency, and this software could put me on the fast track to producing more seasons!
Im so happy that I found Buzzprout. Your easy to follow and clear videos are amazing for a new podcaster like me! Descript will be amazing to have for a person like me that has an accent, is new to all the emms, errs, pauses, hesitations, etc! In my project, creating smalls scripts will be something needed, so Descript will be the way to go! I will be over the moon! Gracias !
i think most of the software you reviewed today is good but i am just starting out Alitu sounds right budget wise and learning curve too your presentation was very smooth.
I think Descript looks like a great way to start podcasting and I believe as a busy mama starting this journey text base editing may be the right way to go for Mr
Descript sounds awesome. A great way for me to get off the sideline and start podcasting! And of course I would use Buzzsprout as my host! Please...would love trying it for a year!!! Tnx and keep up the great videos!!
I tried Descript after your last episode that talked about it. It nice to see the feature of editing the words out and that would remove the audio. My only issue was when wanting to use the transcript I had to go back and make a lot of corrections because of typos or punctuation in different places. I felt that took more time.
I feel like Descript would help with publishing podcasts when you are in an environment where you can't have headphones in to listen but you still want to work on your podcasts at the same time. Therefore, later on when you do have the time to listen to it you can figure out what needs to be edited.
As an English/Creative Writing major who wants to launch my podcast on my birthday this month (July 24!), Descript would really enhance my ability to edit and release my show in a timely manner. Audio editing seems daunting and is a definite stressor, so having an alternative would really make it so much easier and fit right into my skill wheelhouse. Thanks as always for the great episodes Buzzsprout, they really help!
I would love to try out descript for a year free as I am in the education world and editing and writing is a big portion of my career. This would make things so much simpler for me on so many levels as a brand new podcaster. I love your videos and I am a member of Buzzsprout so keep making these awesome lifesaver episodes.... :)
I..am lovin’ me some logic..which as u probably know..is like Garagebands cooler older brother that just seems to be good at everything. It has several podcasting presets and master presets as well as a ton of free sound effects and loops to help you make original music..Just my two cents. Btw..just pick a DAW..and learn it. The are all really great. Thanks for covering another great topic
Thank you for the great video! Mine is an interview based podcast and I am still learning the ropes of podcasting. Descript will help me in speeding up my editing process, as most of my interviews require tightening the flow and removing a lot of dead phrases.
Descript looks to be the future of Podcast editing with its intuitive and straightforward less technical interface. It is forgiving of mistakes and for those of us who may struggle with technical aspects, but want a professional broadcast, this is the one.
I have 95 episodes that I have edited with Audacity - it works for me - I have not done some of the more "technical" things (e.g. Compressor), but I think the quality of my podcast is still pretty good - I am a visual guy and think that descript is something that would work for me - love to be considered for the year subscription. Thanks for your training here - will you add a descript training too? Bob
Glad to be of help, Bob! For the Descript tutorial, you can check it out here: ruclips.net/video/nxQnUz6_62Y/видео.html. Keep podcasting and wishing you all the best!
Nice selection of options. As a new podcaster I use Final Cut Pro X to edit my podcasts, I find it faster to edit than with Garage band plus there are more export options. Will checkout out descript and Hindenburg 👍
Interesting video and to the point (which is refreshing). Am contemplating Podcasting and trying to understand what needs to be in place, so this is very helpful, thanks
Descript looks like the "scrip" I need to take my raw material and finally get it out there! I need that simplicity in my life to keep the energy in the creative zone...
Great Vid - thanks. I have previously used Audacity and really liked it. It always seemed a little clunky and way more fiddly detail than I needed for my podcast. I have Apple everything and so Garageband seems like an obvious one for me to try however, I really like the sound of DESCRIPT. Checking it out right now... ..I plan to launch my second podcast in September so busy recording episodes over the next few weeks. Wish me luck 🤞🎙
That sounds fantastic, Roy! And yes, keep on exploring various podcasting tools until you find the right one that aligns with your preferences. All the best to you and to your show!
Always great videos from you guys. Be a rookie as podcaster you always bring great contents here to help me. Descript is a great alternative for sure. English is my second language and I can realize descript can improve my edit for each podcast I do. Thanks sharing your recommendations for each one of them
Hola I am starting a Podcast about finance in English, it is not my first language and I have been editing a lot of filling words and have to repeat so many times... Descript will help me to land my first episodes softer while getting use to Podcast in s Second language
I would love to try descript, I could use it to save so much time removing all the “filler words” in my podcast and even whole chunks of conversation that don’t flow
Just tried Descript, super cool. I ended up taking my file back into Audacity to finish it though. Would love to spend more time with Descript! Love your tips, keep them coming please :)
Descript would really take my Podcast to the next level. This software looks very easy to learn. I am trying to cut out a lot of my ums when I do my episodes, so if I can just delete those in a software would be great.
Interested in starting a podcast with my Roswell friends. I already am a video editor that works with audio. I think descript would really help save me time and energy in editing my podcast.
I really like using Descript for editing down content, and creating clips, audiograms, and transcripts. I just wish it didn’t cost more to have team workflows.
I am starting a Podcast because its something I have "talked about doing" for several months and yesterday at church was inspired by the #1 focus of my church and that is the mental health needs of our community. We have started a series called "It Takes a Village" at my church, which is called The Church of the City, and our community has so many things wrong with it but the one I can talk about from experience is mental health and addiction. I feel these go hand in hand and without one we wouldn't have the other in my opinion and starting at the root is always the best way to weed out and keep the wee from returning so I want to start a focus like every day living in the world of an addict with mental health disorders that is also an ex criminal, mom, fiancé of an alcoholic man (who is in denial, i might add) and I am also under spiritual attack on a daily basis and have to stay armed with St. Josephs oil and Holy Water. I might also add that, I want to do this with having no idea on what I am doing, her to start or how to start and all while getting ready to go under the knife again and still going about my daily routines and going into a really busy summer with a teenage girl at home, two 18 year old girls that just left home (with one returning), a 7 year old boy and a laundry list of renovations I will be starting. I live by the phrase "Idle hands are the devil's playground" so busy is how I intend to live the rest of my days. My every day life is reality TV worthy and I want to stay sober and clean and with all that goes in it is hard but then when I am thrust back into the world of pain management and surgeries how do I go about that? Well that is why I am starting the Pod cast because while some would like to say I am not clean, I beg to differ and my experiences and stories need to be shared to help others. I want to spend my time Podcasting and sharing my devotionals and other ways of starting each day to help myself stay on track. I have always had amazing A's in English, Spelling and Writing so I am sure Descript would be fantastic for me but I cannot afford to pay attention here lately so I am not going to be buying anything for some time so I cold totally use a year free of anything in all honesty. I have had to fight for everything I get in my life and nothing has come without a cost of some kind but I really haven't ever been lucky either so I don't really plan on winning either but it would be wonderful if I did and hey, I always tell my kids, "just ask, you never know what people might say or do for you, if you just ask they might give it ti you" and that goes with any and everything in life except sobriety and mental health, these you have to work at every day to live through and today just now some one lost that fight and my #1 gratitude is that it wasn't me. God is good to give the likes of me another day on this earth, I am humbled that he has aloud me to stay this long, Thanks be to God!
Thank you, Wendy, for sharing this. You can start podcasting anytime. I hope it helps you in your journey, and sharing your stories through podcasting can also bring light to someone else who's going through the same experience.
I've been wanting to add a transcription to my episodes. Descript would allow me to do that while at the same time make my editing seem so much easier.
Descript looks like a good tool for beginners. Waveform editing can be daunting. I hope it does not make it too robotic as we need the variable pauses to make it natural and human.
I am really terrible at editing my podcast and my friend offered to help with editing. He does a great job but he's also a busy guy and doesn't always meet deadlines. I think Descript could help me edit so my friend wouldn't have to anymore.
Really informative video. Hadn't heard of descript but it would be a great help for my podcast. Any chance to speed up the editing process & improve it overall I'm all for
Hello guys! I was wondering why no one talks about Waveform from Traktion. It is a great "non-disruptive" software and it is super simple to use with great plugins! Have you ever check it out? Big up from Italy
Thank you! Want to give Descript a try as I am new to Podcasting and don't know much about editing. Probably not the most technical person so may be the easiest software for me?
Yes, go ahead and try it out, Tracey. If it doesn't work, try other tools until. You'll soon find which one you are most comfortable with. If you have any podcasting questions, feel free to shoot us an email at support.
I currently use Hindenburg Pro (on your recommendation ) and while expensive, it has cut down on the time I spend editing . Sometimes, words are mispronounced and I don’t catch them during the edit, so Descript may be a solution for me.
Descript would help as I am just converting from a video format to an audio format and have several projects going besides starting up a podcast . . needs to be easy and transcript to a blog written eblast.
Thanks for this informative video! I've been quarreling with Descript vs. Adobe for my podcast. My background is film so I'm familiar with editing and taught premiere in the high school setting for years. I'd like to be able to get some dual-purpose out of the editing software I invest in, and looking for a program that can allow me to video edit (not intense, but something basic for RUclips, like including speech tags and minor additions like including images and text) while also creating quality audio that I can use for the podcast. When it comes to Descript, do you think it can do this? I know Adobe can with the Premiere-Audition combo, but it's a costly investment. Is this a situation where you get what you pay for? Or are there other video/audio combos that you'd recommend? I appreciate all you do and the information you share! Thanks!

Wow! That's awesome to know. Thanks for the appreciation and checking in, Emilie!
Being new Descript would help to start a foundation as I start my podcast journey .
I feel like it would also save me time in the long run.
thanx! i downloaded and installed audacity before this vid was over :)
Well, I smashed the subscribe before the giveaway was mentioned, so thanks for the valuable resource regardless!!
good video Norman ... i think scripts will help me stay away from the UM's and Ahh's ..
Descript will help me just focus on the text and I totally see me prefer it over wave form... A lot easier, in my opinion
Gracias !
First time seeing. Very informative especially since I am researching best tools for my new upcoming podcast. Great stuff. Thank you.
You have been such a big help in the start of my podcast! Thank you!!!!
So what software do you use now recording your podcast ?
i think most of the software you reviewed today is good but i am just starting out Alitu sounds right budget wise and learning curve too your presentation was very smooth.
I think Descript looks like a great way to start podcasting and I believe as a busy mama starting this journey text base editing may be the right way to go for Mr
You've got this! Plus, you can publish your episodes directly to Buzzsprout from Descript. Happy podcasting!
We got you! Thanks for the support, Tony!👍
It may not be up to par now but its a revolutionary technique that has a lot of potential.
Thanks for the insights into the tools. Looks like I may be using Descript if I can
Awesome, glad to hear that helped! Thanks for checking in.
Thank you, thank you for this very helpful video! I'm a beginner and thanks to you I now have clarity to begin. Excited yo!
You're so welcome!
Descript sounds wonderful. It would remove the hassle of generating transcripts after I finish editing the episode.
I’m new to podcasting. Great video

Definitely a great video. I watched several similar and this was definitely the most informative without being overkill.
Glad to hear that, Danny! Thank you so much!
Thank you for your insight!!! Just might choose Descript instead of the others!!!
Sounds good! Descript works great as well! 🙂
Thank you for sharing all this information. It is greatly appreciated.
You're welcome, Nora! Thanks for checking in!
It seems to be user friendly and, being new to podcasting, it seems to be a good choice to start my jounrey.
Great info! Podcaster newby here. Would love to try Descript!!
That sounds awesome! Let us know how it goes. All the best to you and to your show! 💪
Nice selection of options. As a new podcaster I use Final Cut Pro X to edit my podcasts, I find it faster to edit than with Garage band plus there are more export options. Will checkout out descript and Hindenburg 👍
I am looking for an editing software and I am very interested in the transcript changes on Descript which seem to be a great and easy way to edit.
Thanks so much for this video I was looking for it to start my podcast
If you're looking for a sign, then this is it! 😉 Start and record now. I know you can do it. 💪
@@Buzzsprout thanks again
Interesting video and to the point (which is refreshing). Am contemplating Podcasting and trying to understand what needs to be in place, so this is very helpful, thanks
Descript looks like the "scrip" I need to take my raw material and finally get it out there! I need that simplicity in my life to keep the energy in the creative zone...
I am looking for an easy tool. Discript may be just what I need!
Dang... Where the heck were you one year ago when I needed you??? Haha! This is a great video, good work man.
Love your tips, keep them coming please :)
great info.. descript seesmto answer all my "how do I do that" questions.
Love the idea of text based editing
Descript would really take my Podcast to the next level. This software looks very easy to learn. I am trying to cut out a lot of my ums when I do my episodes, so if I can just delete those in a software would be great.
Interested in starting a podcast with my Roswell friends. I already am a video editor that works with audio. I think descript would really help save me time and energy in editing my podcast.
I wonder if Descript works with Spanish. Sounds intriguing. Great video, guys! -Jim
I really like using Descript for editing down content, and creating clips, audiograms, and transcripts. I just wish it didn’t cost more to have team workflows.
Hello, so glad I found you! Thanks for the information.
I hope it helps you in your journey, and sharing your stories through podcasting can also bring light to someone else who's going through the same experience.
i use WavePad Sound Editor Master Edition and i love it!!! Audacity is ok but after using wavePad, i cant go back to audacity.
I am curious to see how "Descript" can measure up with the various english accents that are out there, starting with my very own! 😅
I've been wanting to add a transcription to my episodes. Descript would allow me to do that while at the same time make my editing seem so much easier.
Out the 5 software which do u recommend I just started my podcast but I do want to keep getting better at my podcast and keep growing
Personally, I love Descript. They've made a ton of updates since we made this video.
Descript looks like a good tool for beginners. Waveform editing can be daunting. I hope it does not make it too robotic as we need the variable pauses to make it natural and human.
Do you ever list your gear used in the description? If so where/what is it?
I am really terrible at editing my podcast and my friend offered to help with editing. He does a great job but he's also a busy guy and doesn't always meet deadlines. I think Descript could help me edit so my friend wouldn't have to anymore.
Really informative video. Hadn't heard of descript but it would be a great help for my podcast. Any chance to speed up the editing process & improve it overall I'm all for
this was really helpful. thank you so much 🙏
Ferrite is another awesome one...
Thanks!
