Problem is that how long I can remember these phrsal verbs. So, I saved 50 phrsal verbs as well as example sentance into Ahki in order to study over and over again. Hi Vanessa how you doin' ?, great video Vanessa, that was a good explanation of the meaning of all those phrasal verbs, by the way, would you be so kind to explain to us the difference or differences between a phrasal verb and an idiom ? I ask you this because I still get a little confused on what exactly is an idiom and a phrasal verb, I know that a phrasal verb is composed of a common verb and a preposition or particle, just like you said in the video and sometimes an adjective or adverb, as far as I know. BUT. Must idioms have a preposition or particle ?. Thanks in advance for the answers Vanessa.
For me, most of the phrasal verb are idioms due to lot of them can be switched by a single stronger verb but the single stronger verb is less used by the native speakers beacause this is less natural. Especially in the every day life.
As far as I know, phrasal verbs are different from idioms, but I made the question because I want Vanessa to ratify it or rectify it, an idiom might have a phrasal verb but that doesn't mean they're the same, like in this example ; -" I have to PUT UP WITH his behavior." # this is a phrasal verb. - "Every cloud has a silver lining" # this is an idiom and a saying or proverb at the same time and as you can see it's got no phrasal verb in it. An idiom is often metaphorical ("You rock" does not mean that you are actually a rock) and a phrasal verb uses a Verb + Preposition ("stand up to"). But often these "English grammar" words are somewhat liquid and can be used in multiple situations. Hope this helps! 😊
