~ Jesus values solitude
~ This story shows spiritual awakening and growth as a process; not everything is instant
~ We need to humble ourselves in a way to recognize we are blind, asking God to open our eyes and be focused on Him
~ Once our spiritual eyes have been opened, we cannot go back to being blind, chasing the world
