12:47 Folley is a class act. He almost decks Bonavena right before the bell ends the round and instead of watching as Oscar staggers he helps him get to the corner and on the stool. That type of sportsmanship is very rare today.
Folley's best were in the 50s, same as Archie Moore and by the time Ali came along both these Masters of Noble Art of Boxing were past their best but can still draw the crowd into the arenas. Archie and Zora were both very conservative in movements and reflexes were cobra-like - they were a marvel to watch, boxing machines they were !!
Ringo bonavena and Canadian chuvalo these 2 tough cookies were something u never see again they were something not to forget Foley was 1 of Alis great fights good to watch all
What a class act Folley was. Beating Bonavena, a very tough fighter (Ali and Frazier fights tell that), when he was past his prime. RIP both of these guys
@@iamtman1 agree that first Frazier bout was questionable looked like a draw or Oscar win . imagine how the Ali haters would react if in the third Norton bout Ken actually did something to take the crown and knocked Ali down twice ..if that happened it would be understandably dubbed a robbery cuz if you watch the full bout Oscar dominated the last round as well..not to mention I'm pretty sure neither joe or Oscar were champ so there was no title to go get in that bout .
Bonavena only had 8 fights and 12 months in the pro ranks and was fighting a 34 year old veteran with 60+ fights. Despite being dropped he managed to survive and didn't look that bad at all.
Reading something I saw other day it mentioned this fight and I thought I didn't even know that fought before. Lately been looking older fights that I had either forgotten or didn't know existed.
Zora was an excellent boxer of the 60's and 70's. That right hand that put Bonavena down in the late rounds, was the result of setting Bonavena up for it, taking advantage of Bonavena's lack of experience at that time, and delivering the payload on target. Zora was one of the smoothest box-type fighters ever. The second fight was different though. Zora was way past his prime in this second bout, still though i felt Zora should have been given the fight or at least a draw.
Folle'y was an economical fighter who stalked his prey. He modeled himself out of Joe Louis. Folley was accurate & had power, like but lesser then Louis. Folley's problem was that he wasn't very consistent.
I used to think that until i did more research, people who say Rocky didn't fight anyone don't know who he fought. Still, i criticize Rocky for hardly defending his title & for having so much trouble with people he shouldn't have.
@Mike Markwell Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore and Walcott were all ancient when Marciano fought them as Heavyweight Champs. I would've liked to see him fight against Big Cat Williams, Folley, Machen, Liston, Patterson and Ingo.
@@thewisetzar5363 He avoided Williams and Folley, he knew they would be tough, he was smart to retire, Williams' power would have been tough to overcome.
fair critics of Rocky, he did have a style that was vulnerable...I"m sure had he kep fighting he would have eventually lost but he was smart and never got in that situation!
long career for Folley: boxrec.com/en/boxer/9384 Folley's best results were a draw with Mildenburger and a win over Machen. He also beat Doug Jones. He knocked out Henry Cooper the 2nd time they fought. Cooper was cut but also got tagged. boxrec.com/media/index.php/Zora_Folley_vs._Henry_Cooper
@ah93704 Laugh all you want he was great but he fought guys over 30 and near or past their primes, he had Folley and Williams waiting for a shot they never got.
@@mstrunn folly and williams were contenders after 1956, when patterson took the title. just saw the rings rankings for the fifties, during marciano`s reign, williams, folly, patterson, liston, werent even shown in the rankings, meaning that at the time, they were nobodies, why would a nobody be given the chance to fight against the world champ? true, some of these fellas could have beaten rocky, but they didnt deserve a chance at that moment.

12:40 what a gentleman. It seemed like Folley had nearly dropped Oscar but helped him up because the bell rang.
Zora Folley's right hand is a thing of beauty. It comes out of nowhere and it is deadly.

Zora is my Grandfather in-law..I never met him.He looks just like his oldest son..WOW..
He was a pure boxing master (Foley)
RIP, great father and classy guy.
Foley was a very slick counterpuncher...and with considerable power in both hands .... would be a long day in against Zora
He luls you to sleep and then drops the hammer once you relax.

Foley styles himself after Joe Louis, but lacked his speed of hand and power. But he was a solid, world class fighter. Much respect.
he had power tho you fool….
No power? Are you kidding me?

Bonavena was not past his prime vs Ali or Frazier. In fact he almost beat frazier and dropped him twice in their 1st fight.
I meant Foley was past his prime here. born in 1931, fight was in 1965. 34 was quite old then for boxing
@@loyaldude10 true but that shows how badass Ali was being 35 beating earnie shavers

60's only

Yes his style really favors joe Louis
Excellent upload thank you for posting 💪🏿
Estupendo boxeador Zora Folley. Bonavena venía invicto y Zora le dio una lección de boxeo. Llegó muy veterano a pelear por el Título Mundial.
I like how Zora plants himself in the mid of the ring and hust turns as Oscar circles around him using the stick efficiently
Awesome thanks for the uplaod.

Tanks for posting. I had it 8-2 Folley.

@Teucer Russell All 3 were near past their primes, and Walcott and Charles had him beat but got careless.

What's up? Hadn't sound recording been invented yet?
My Dad, Hank Thurman fought him...do you happen to have any footage of that?
Well said Ed Fred
Fue una competencia de amagues
Folley was a better boxer and won this fight, a couple years later in 1967 they fought again and this time Bonavena won.
Folley
GRANDEEEEEEEE BONAVENA
Who won the fight?
Zora Folley
Bonavena won the rematch- but Folley was even older then, while Ringo was in his prime.

how come he did;t fight rocky ?
Rocky retired young. Folley at the time of Rocky was a just an unknown novice.
thats why I laugh when people say Rocky Marciano didnt fight anybody.
