If Gundam, Code Geass, Gurren Laggen, Power Rangers, Voltron, Evangelion, and Transformers has taught us anything, it's that Giant Fighting Robots are friggin awesome.
+ender25ish Or Schindlers List... or ET... or Indiana Jones... or Inception... or The Dark Knight... or Lord of the Rings... so basically, if EVERY GREATEST THEME EVER didn't exist then yeah, this is the greatest
Drive crossing the 2nd bridge at Pulau Pinang, Malaysia with this theme song blasting. You can actually feel the andrenalin rush, since your left and right is the vast ocean. My husband and I keep talking, "imagine, Kaiju or Jagger walk passed us now." Try it guys, whenever you crossing the main bridge, play this song.
I am glad they didn't use your typical epic sympony they usually use for these action thrillers, its an original song I haven't heard in a movie in a long time.
Surprisingly, they actually used practical effects for some of the scenes. Remember the shot were Gypsy Danger punched inside an office building and got a pendulum going? That was all done with a real, miniature scene before it was put into a computer.
Actually not that much when compared with other movies Difference was they made it fantastic Del Toro said he didn't wanted CGI technically perfect, he wanted CGI full of passion
This is one of the most epic cinematic theme songs ever made... They didnt even use this epic theme much in the sequel... if they had, they could have made atleast some of the countless mundane action scenes in it seem okay...
I want a prequel, starting with the first prototypes as the human militaries desperately attempt to fend off the Kaiju until the new super weapons are complete, all the way to the Ranger corps at its height when we see through time travel shenanigans that the creators of the Kaiju survived the events of the first movie and opened an enormous tear between the worlds and send a host of Kaiju at the same time, so we get a full deployment of the Hong Kong station and a massive melee.
Douglas Rosa Well ONE hand was crushed,(or the saw was just forcibly stopped) the other, the big arm, turned back into a hand er claw before grabbing Otachi's other claw.
Cherno Alpha was probably the best jeager in the whole movie if were willing to set aside the fact that all the other jeagers were better then... Typhoon didn't last long and granted the kajiu was made to take Typhoon out, Otachi also had the acid used to weaken chernos armour. It's also a Mark 1 jeager, all the others are above Mark 2, Gypsy is a Mark 3, Typhoon is a Mark 4 and the only mark 5 to be built is Stryker Although Otachi was obviously giving a good fight, it seems that if leatherback wasn't a thing, than Alpha would've been able to hold off Otachi for long enough for stryker to at least save the pilots, doesn't look like the jeager would've survived. I know Alphas pilots are basically trapped inside of the thing (From what i remember) but just because they're trapped doesn't mean you can't save them, well in this situation anyway. That's all i want to comment. Also gypsy is the main jeager containing the main characters and plot armour, they also knew about the acid Otachi had soo i still say alpha is best Although Stryker is good, it's my favourite jeager, it's just that this makes Alpha stand out to me Edit: Exuding the wings, spelling Edit 2: Shit a old semi stupid comment I made that’s not a year old
I loved this movie. Truly epic. But I was disappointed that the only Jägeren to make it were the American and Australian. Could have been better if it were the Russian surviving along with the American.
***** If Travis Beacham writes that Cherno did have custom Lifepods and the Wei triplets survived, that'll be Canon. And with their popularity, there's no way they won't return in literature. It's only a matter of time.
***** I remember someone saying that Cherno and Typhoon were beaten so easily because Otaji and Leatherback were designed specifically to counter their stregths(Acid eats through Cherno's armor, Tail crushes Typhoon's head).
***** What makes you think they didn't? There were originally thirty jaegers in the Hong Kong shatterdome alone, and it's somewhat reasonable to assume they were taken out similarly. Otaji and leatherback were made so quickly because Newt drifted with the Kaiju, and their masterslearned all about the Jaegers from his mind, allowing them to exploit the Jaegers' weaknesses. And, with regards to the radiation question, I think it's safe to assume that if they could restore Gipsy to better than new, they could have added shielding to Cherno Alpha. After-movie thinking can be countered with a healthy dose of head-canon, and a few wiki pages.
*Spoiler Alert* I was dazed when Raleigh lost his brother in the first quarter of the movie. The tragic part of reality was briefly but brilliantly captured in that scene. Great movie!
I feel like the first minute or so was incredible and had some great buildup, but then there was a noticeable dearth of monster-punching precisely when it felt like there should have been a lot of monster-punching. It went from showing the two challengers sort of entering the "ring", getting ready to pummel each other and hyping us up, and then it just showed a bunch of people walking around and looking at things, ruining all of the buildup before that. Then it gets around to showing some of the fighting minutes in, but even then the editing feels misplaced. Cutting away before a punch lands, or before missiles are launched, or before they actually even start the thundercloud formation, or cutting in after the attack that crushes the 3-armed robot's head, all of it just doesn't feel well-paced. It really takes away the impact of the actions when you cut away from them so often, especially when nothing has even really happened yet.
I actually agree with you here; you provided fair constructive criticism. It's like those faux-dynamic cuts where the editor tries to add more impact to the arrangement by cutting before any actual impact, but it works better when you have it after the follow-through of the blow. Seems like the pacing was very odd - with the clips more jumbled together than going with the flow and momentum of the music ("showing the two challengers sort of entering the 'ring'" much like you said).
You'd think after, what, 20 years of fighting Kaiju, the people of coastal cities would have been moved inland? I mean, I know they wouldn't live in great conditions due to over-population, but at least they wouldn't have their children crushed by giant lizard things. Seems like a fair trade-off, really.

Well, they hadn't ever had to deal with Category 4's this powerful before. Before, the mostly took on high level Category 3's and normal 4's.
To add to what Tyler said the kajius were made to counter Ahpla and Tyhpoon
Otachi and Leatherback were specifically designed to kill Jaegers. The others before them were only cannon fodder designed to level cities.

For people that like to bash CGI, it took the 3d artists, riggers & animators a year to make one Jaeger.

Why move inland when they have a jaeger named after a stripper fighting off the kaijus?
