    I had mine for slightly over a year and had the resin tank burst at the neck, flooded 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and my laundry room. Rheem made me jump through hoops to prove it wasnt my fault but luckily i hold onto all my receipts regarding maintenance and took photos of initial installation. they finally sent me a replacement unit and it arrived crushed, resin beads all over the place, plastic shell cracked everywhere. Luckily the bypass is holding in place just fine but i did have it fail on me when i initially tried to shut it off, the rubber gaskets it uses to divert the water are so cheaply made, if you try to move the bypass valve with water pressure still on, they'll fall out of place and no longer provide a water tight seal. going on 2 weeks now, waiting for a response from Rheem about the damaged replacement.

      Yep, exactly the same thing happened today. Luckily I have installed flood sensors and quickly found out the gushing water, otherwise would got ugly in the basement. Low quality softener, better to replace it all together. Lasted only less than 2 years.

    The instruction manual says to shut off the electricity to the water heater (after you close the main water supply valve). Is shutting off the electricity to water heater necessary when you are using the single bypass valve setup?

      It’s called a crush sleeve. They are for softer pipe such as uponor/pex. PVC/copper is stiff so no need for it. It also can be the reason for a leak. We pull em off anyway when using the soft stuff too because of it causing leaks

    Can you tell me how far apart the inlet and outlet are from each other, center to center? I'd like to see if a Rheem would hook up to where my existing piping is.

  • @WisdomInBits

    How do you like it after using the product for a while ? I see lot of negative reviews on Home Depot website for this product. Most of them complain about leaks. So I’m a little confused if I should buy it or not.

    • @HomeGardenNature

      Unfortunately, it leaked after a few days after i installed it. I returned it to home depot and replaced it with AO smith from lowes. I've been using it for 2 years and so far no issues. Good luck on your search.

    I had this system installed about a month ago, I’m not sure water was ever added to the system. Idk if it is working properly, can I go back and add the water now to do the brine process??

    • @HomeGardenNature
      @HomeGardenNature  3 года назад +1

      Hi! You can tell if it is working by the feel of the water which is soft. If not try to test the water softness with the tester that came with the softener. Thank you so much for watching!

      @@HomeGardenNature Was the thickness of the flex hose 3/4 inch only because the main line is the same diameter? If so I'd need a 1 inch to 1 inch shark bite since my main line is 1 inch diameter but can't seem to find it anywhere. Any thoughts on this?

    Good video... Just make sure you have room for this unit, as it requires nearly 30 inches of depth with the valve installed. I only had 24" to work with where the old softener was installed... I wound up having to run new drain line, drop a new electrical outlet and reposition a 230V outlet to install the new drain line... A plumber would have charged me two grand to install this $300 softener, glad I had all of the EMT conduit, boxes, plumbing and other parts, pieces and tools laying around...

    • @HomeGardenNature
      @HomeGardenNature  3 года назад +2

      This kind of softener is tall and needs more space. At first I'm thinking of hiring a plumber but spending more money for labor is not ok for me. Decided to install by myself and I did it but I had a hard time doing it 'coz I'm not a plumber. Thank you so much for watching!

    I purchased this model from Home Depot a year and a half ago. It was the fifth system I've purchased. All lasted an average of 5 - 6 years, and all used the same components which are made by EcoSystems. All but this Rheem which failed with the internal valves bursting open, and then when I placed the unit into "bypass mode" while I decided what to do..the "bypass valve" also failed. Funny, the first four I installed by myself, and one of my sons, licensed electrician and plumber, installed the Rheem. The problem seems to be that these are built and targeted to the low end of homeowners, those in the $150K- $500K home value market depending on where you live. Frankly, they are junk, and use the lowest grades of plastic known to mankind.

    • @HomeGardenNature
      @HomeGardenNature  Год назад

      You are correct! It is the low-end water softener from Home Depot. I tried looking for a good quality softener but I can't afford the price. I decided to try this brand and model, and it is still working fine until now. Next time if I need to replace it, I will go with better quality regardless of the price. Thank you so much for watching!

    When should we test water hardness after installing it

    • @HomeGardenNature
      @HomeGardenNature  3 года назад

      Test water hardness after installation. Don't test the water after regenerating because it will give you a false positive since the salt will test as a mineral.
