    thanks for the video. it really saved me. i'd replaced my radiator, hoses and water pump and that dang tensioner broke when putting on the new belt. i thought i would be at the mercy of the dealer until i saw your video...whew. my local auto place had one left in stock. picked it up first thing the next morning and your procedure worked like a charm. as someone else noted, i loosened the nut on the lower engine mount about 3/4"-1" before lifting the motor. i also removed the pulley/cap on the water pump for a little more room to get the tensioner out and back in. thanks again.

    If you go 1 step farther and remove the motor mount bolt by on the passenger side along with the wishbone up top you can jack the motor up far enough for the bolt to clear the frame and get it with a socket and ratchet. I did this job in about 25 minutes. no struggles. Also while the motor is jacked up and the wishbone is out of the way, that's the best time to install the belt.

    Just recently ran into that issue also. After fighting with it for several hours, I took a chance after getting some of the belt on the alternator pulley, I did a couple of bump starts(about 4x's) of the engine and belt finally seated on pulley. Still assessing if I need to replace entire assembly because it seems now that it doesn't require a lot of force to loosen the tensioner on pulley bolt(14m) then it did on the dummy bolt(19m) which broke off. I'm assuming the spring is where tension comes from, not the pulley itself. Also, I saw one video that showed when routing the belt back on(if it's a new belt) you slip belt on tensioner pulley last, not alternator pulley. Haynes manual states that also.

    • @MrV2u
      @MrV2u  11 месяцев назад +1

      Check the biggest gap in the belt and see if the belt moves more than an inch. If so then I’d recommend swapping the tensioner if not I’d let it ride. That 19mm cheap cast sucks for sure. Thanks for the advice as well brother.

    After replacing the brushes on my 2005 Camry alternator I went to put the belt back on and the tensioner fake bolt snapped off.
    I want to replace the tensioner, but I cannot free up the lower right side motor mount. Two days of penetrating oil and tapping with a hammer including using an aluminum drift with a hammer and it WILL NOT free up. The nut is off, but it won't lift off. I tried removing the front motor mount - same thing. I cannot raise the engine to allow the tensioner mounting bolt to be removed.
    So now I am stuck in my driveway (this is my only car) unable to put the belt back on OR replace the tensioner.
    Do you have any suggestions for either an alternate method of putting the belt back on or freeing up the lower right side motor mount engine bracket from the motor mount?
    Is it possible to get the mounting bolt for the tensioner on and off without jacking up the engine?

    If the release nut is broken off, use a 14mm socket on the pulley bolt and gently pry the tensioner assembly away from the engine. For some reason, the tensioner is bound up and will not release (no clearance to the block) and you WILL break the arm off pulling on it with a belt removal tool.

    Another note I am not saying this is not a good way to do this however if you're going to do it this way remove the coolant overflow tank and there is no struggle getting it back in with the bolt on it if you have the mount removed and then slightly jacked up even just a 1/2 a pump and you have the coolant reservoir removed you can put the bolt in after getting the entire assembly back in. After getting the bolt in all you have to do is connect the spring arm itself 1st at the bottom and that will help you guide the bolt back into where it's supposed to be and it will fall right in place 5 minutes after everything's taken apart.

      Should be about the same way. Nothing much changed between the engines. Let me know how you make out.

      Advance auto had a better price than auto zone. They might not have it in stock but they can order it or you can order it and have it shipped to your house or store.

    • @MrV2u
      @MrV2u  4 года назад +1

      The belt tensioner does what the name says. It keeps proper tension on the belt making sure the ac compressor, alternator, and power steering pump works as they should. If it makes noise, has play in it or a loose of tension it should be replaced. Let me know if that helps.

      You will have to press the pulley out but in order to do so you have to take out the whole assembly to get access to it brother. So it’s best to just swap the unit as one. I’m here for advice brother. Thanks

    does anyone know how high your suppose to jack the car up i did all those steps but didnt do anything was afraid i would brake a motor mount ?

    • @MrV2u
      @MrV2u  5 лет назад

      As high as you need to get the bolt out. I went as high as it would go. It’s not a easy job, you’ll need a lot of patience believe me. Just keep working it out eventually it will all fall into place.

      Be safe, remove the passenger side motor mount, remove the dogbone up top. and LOOSEN to where no threads catch (not remove) the front motor mount. Then you should have as much room as possible. Just make sure you are not lifting the entire car

      Did you disconnect the motor mount like I showed you in the video? Jack it up high enough to get it back in brother.

    So I had to look at the comments here and I'm kinda surprised. I had the tensioner pulley bolt snap after I did my water pump and I did this from the bottom without touching the mounts shoving the assembly in with the bolt at an angle. Is there anyone else that did it without having to pull the mounts?
    Edit: I also have a 2009 with the 2.4

      I’m sure there is more then one way to have at it brother. I wish the engineers had to work on the cars they create lol. A simple 1 inch drop in the frame would of been perfection lol.

      Make sure you disconnect the motor mount and jack the motor up high enough to clear it.

    You shouldn't have to remove the top engine mount to remove the old belt and install the new belt.

      The best part is when your working on a lift and it’s raining down salt and rust at the same time. That’s one way to get your iron and salt intake at the same time lol.

    Got the spray. All over spring and anywhere else. Still cannot move arm up or down where else .ps there is no squealing anywhere. Never had been. Trying to replace alternator. Do not wanna start busting casting on arm any more suggestion

    • @MrV2u
      @MrV2u  2 года назад

      What exactly is the problem with it? Just the alternator? The belt tensioner isn’t releasing the belt? It’s under a lot of pressure? Are you backing it off the correct way? I know it’s a pain to get the belt off and it’s worse getting a new belt on. I broke the cast tensioner putting on a new belt my self.

    • @jasonkeller9861
      @jasonkeller9861 Год назад +1

      I changed an alternator yesterday and broke the release arm in the process. What I had to do to release it was use a 14mm socket on the pulley bolt and gently pry the tensioner away from the engine block with a small pry bar for the tensioner to release. Almost as if there should be a washer behind the tensioner to allow a small clearance between the tensioner and the engine.
