  • The CMCB, or Cape Malay Choir Board, is the oldest Malay Choir board in South Africa (from Cape Town). They had their event last night at the Athlone Civic Centre with speeches, launching of their youth division, pool draw for their upcoming competition, and some live performances. The CMCB boasts of the oldest Malay Choir clubs, and includes big names such as The Young Men SK, Angeliere, Jonge Studente, Rangers, Ottomans, Parkdales, Marines, Boarding Boys, Villagers and Primroses.
Malay choirs has been an integral part of the Cape Town "coloured" and especially Cape Malay communities, with influences from around the world, especially the old Dutch. Traditionally, items at choral competitions include Combined chorus, solo, comic or "moppie", and Nederlandselied.
Choirs parade the streets all over Cape Town, especially the Cape Flats and have to dance/parade and sometimes sing at iconic places as Bokaap and Lentegeur.
