"We`ll see, we´ll see. I might be closer than you think" - Yared Nuguse Wow, he really was. Jakob glanced back and looked hesitant, maybe scared that Yared would slingshot past and end up taking even El Guerrouj´s WR. Imagine. Sub 3.44 and beating the american record by 3 seconds! Not to mention an official outdoor 9 second PB! New favourite runner for sure. Just positive friendly vibes.
@@wayneegli8379 he's definitely not as good as Jakob, Jakob almost broke the 3k world record the very next day and that race was even closer and Yomif Kejelcha is not as good as Jakob either. I just think Nuguse is getting a little cocky. Cocky is fine but it makes others target you like they do Jakob. Jakob loves it, Kerr and all the rest will now be coming after Nuguse as well :)
Brilliant responses by Jacob😂 humorously and respectfully confronting Nuguse discounting that it is Jacob that goes out fast, not the race 😂😂😂 Jacob is a true legend and great for athletics.
I just love Jakob such a great personality and competitor for the sport! In remember the old days of Coe and Ovett and how they always used to dodge each other. Just love this era of middle distance running!
I like Yared, but Jakob brings so much personality to the sport. I know people hate his cockyness but I don't mind it. When Jakob is at his best, no one is beating him.
I can't tell if Ingebrigtsen says these provocative things with jest and teasing or as a dig. What I can tell is that Ingebrigtsen pretty much makes every fast race fast. This is today's guy who is living the Prefontaine ethic of "honest racing" and not letting others "do the work" for a fast pace. (I write that acknowledging that having pacing lights in addition to pacer athletes is making this mental discipline a little easier than in the past.) Pre did not win the '72 Olympic mile or even place, but many have said that his front running tactics made the race and that was a high value of his. Yared Nuguse is another very exciting middle distance racer, but it is Jakob Ingebrigtsen who has dismissed the old pattern of sitting behind a leader and out-kicking him in the end. It's refreshing. If you're Ingebrigtsen, it might be tiring to watch others gain a lot of attention for running fast after they have benefitted from his own determination and grit to put them in that position. In this interview, Nuguse seems to just vaguely speculate that "if the race goes fast..." No, it goes fast because Ingebrigtsen is there, targeting a WR time. Ingebrigtsen probably would like to hear someone acknowledge what is really happening more openly and honestly.
@@brucekreitzberg7876 Neguse has run plenty fast without Jakob... running the second fastest indoor mile of all time (by himself, I may add). Have you forgotten any of the Kenyan milers in recent years? Virtually all front runners, including Asbel Kiprop and then Timothy Cheruiyot who ran for about 1300m in the front in the Olympics towing Jakob along, before he was outkicked. His recent 5k win at World's? Didn't lead a single second of the race until about 50 meters to go, and was mostly buried in 3-5th. Not very Pre-like of Jakob I'd say. Let's not lie to ourselves, here. Of course Jakob is going to run from the front in what are essentially time trials/record chases. And by the front, I mean behind 2 pacers. In championships, not so much. Please don't act like Jakob should be treated as a gift to all the other runners, that's disrespectful to Kerr, Neguse and many others. He is fantastic but people are getting carried away.
Jakob was sick at worlds. End of discussion. The people saying he lied should watch the races closeley. Jakob would never have to work so hard to win a 5k in 13.11 if he was at his best. Same with the 1500, he would have ran faster earlier and you could see he had less in the tank than usual, and that is not because there isnt any pacers, but yeah i agree with should put respect on the other athletes which are also phenomenal!
Yes, Jakob Ingebrigtsen do understand. But he will also try the 3000 meter WR tomorrow. Jakob will take both WR's. If not this time, then early next season. Plus Jacob will be the first ever under 12.30 on 5000 meter. And I nearly forgot 3000 meter hurdles. In 2025 he will sit with his 9 World Records. I have been followed Jakob since he was 13 year. If he's in his best shape he can win and also set WR within about 24 hours. And when he get older, he will go for 10.000 and half Marathon World Records.

But, Nuguse said he was just as good as Jakob. He's close, but, no, he's not as good as Jakob.
If you've run 3.47 indoors you would expect to be capable of running under 3.50 outdoors.

New American mile record 3:43.97 for Nuguse!
This aged VERY well. What an epic mile they all ran!
Jakob, calling out Yared to take on some pacing duties 🤣
Jakob is proud but also a little resentful that he has to lead every race if it is gonna be fast
If your going to win you have to be in front, particularly at the end - the penalty for being faster than everyone else 🤪
How can you not love these guys?
5:32 🥶
Hopefully my glorious king Jakob breaks the world record🙏🙏💯💯💯😭😭
He still won so I'll take it😂
Yared should have said “hopefully I can pass you in the last 150 like Josh did” but he’s too classy for the smoke
Better watch what he says..lol he has to back it up then😎
Goose knows Jakob is way better than Josh. Also Goose is about to get cooked
Yared doesn't want that smoke, not after seeing Jakob run 4:43 with a last 1600m of 3:46 last week. This version of Jakob is not the one Kerr beat!
I like Yared's attitude. He knows his day is coming.
I like Yared, but Jakob brings so much personality to the sport. I know people hate his cockyness but I don't mind it. When Jakob is at his best, no one is beating him.
Unbelievable race. God bless these two young men and everyone else who raced. I pray they each get el gurreujes record. Jesus loves you
the hawker..aint gonna doo anything-close????
is Josh Kerr running in the mile
The Road Runner 5th Avenue was his last race for the season.
Nuguse has some canoes for shoes
Not long to the gun. God help the yanks. Jabob will break them. Goose is gonna get put on the roast and as for the Hockler ☠️😂🤡😂😂😂
The race was a barn burner for both men. Great battle.
Jakob is pretty unlikeable, huh? Even if you are the best, you dont' speak like this sitting next to your competitors.
