To anyone else whose confused, he started with a finished painting that he painted black. Some parts he scratched off the paint and in others he reversed the footage so that the black was seemingly replaced by the paint. Of which there is none of on the pallet

I think the parts where he is actually painting on it are reversed. Like he painted it black then reversed so it looks like he is painting. Look at 6:15 from here to the next cut he moves strange.
