Hello, I am from the AAFC (Australian Air Force Cadets) and my hat pins have two things that clip on the pins, what do i do with them and my puggaree is really hard to get on my slouch
G'day Nate, Thanks for the questions. Not entirely sure on what you mean by the hat pins. Hat badges have two press studs that slide over the pins. Is this what you are referring to? if you have room within the hat when you slide the hat badge through the puggaree you can place the stud on the pin. If not they should stay in place with the technique demonstrated in the vid. If the puggaree is hard to place on the hat and is causing the side of the hat to fold in then the puggaree is too small for the hat. Try the next size up for the puggaree. For example, sometimes a size 55 hat will be better suited with a size 56 puggaree. Hope this helps. Also check out the other links below as they may mention this as well: How to Iron (and stiffen the brim) of the slouch hat ruclips.net/video/de3J1inUvho/видео.html How to place a chin strap on an Australian Slouch Hat ruclips.net/video/vMXel1raCrc/видео.html Uniform Accoutrements Storage Solutions ruclips.net/video/CC1-_elLgoY/видео.html Thanks for viewing and the questions. G'day Revcar01, good question. Do not try to bend the pins as they are brittle and break quite easily. Just leave the pins straight. As they are pushed through both the puggaree and the hat they hold fast. Just slightly trim the pins so they don't push into your head. Hope this helps. Regards Ash
G'day Travis, I don't have any videos yet on how to turn up the brim of a slouch hat. I can try to describe the process to you as it is quite straight forward. Most Slouch hats have a hook and buckle arrangement on the left side. The press hook is located midway on the crown, just above where the Puggaree sits. The small square buckle is located near the stitching on the brim. No special folding or squaring of the brim is required when folding the brim up. Just attach the brim buckle to the press hook and lock it into place. The natural curve of the raised brim in this position is all that is required. Some of the old WW2 era slouch hats have press studs to lock the raised brim in place. There is a brief mention of the Grade one Slouch hat and you can see the raised brim in my video: How to place a chin strap on an Australian Slouch Hat ruclips.net/video/vMXel1raCrc/видео.html around the 18min mark. Hope this helps. I will look at creating a video to better explain. Regards Ash

G'day Macca Dundee, really good question. The majority of the Unit Colour Patches (UCP) are iron on. Take the puggaree off the hat, place the sticky iron side facing the puggaree and apply a steam iron on medium heat. You need to hold the iron on top of the UCP rather than move the iron from side to side. To find the centre fold the puggaree in half from end to end and place a pencil mark at the top and bottom. The UCP are placed centrally along the last fold of the puggaree. Remove the pencil marks with an eraser and let sit for about 20min before placing back on the hat. I might do a quick vid on it. Hope this helps. Regards Ash.

Any guidance on getting a puggaree the proper size for the crown of your hat? The hat is on one continent and puggaree will be ordered from another, so trying several puggarees won't be an option.
G'day PrenticeBoy1688. Sure. First, if the slouch hat has a size then request if the puggaree can be sized to match. Second; measure the hat from point to point and request the puggaree matches it. Photos with the sizes edited on to it should suffice. I cover puggaree's in a bit more detail in my other RUclips vid: How to apply a Unit Colour Patch ruclips.net/video/5W7iSPl8D3Q/видео.html How to bash an Australian Slouch Hat ruclips.net/video/5_X2OaZ1ego/видео.html I have a spare size 57 and 56 puggaree (both with UCP) that I can send if you get stuck. @@Ashapplications Ta! I'm going to need a 57 but with no unit flash. I'm a civilian piper who's rather prone to suburn and the slouch hat with folded brim is ideal for my purposes. I got an Akubra Coober Pedy with a view to wearing it whilst piping, but the broad brim interferes with my bass drone! I think I want to try dying a puggaree dark rifle green. Any idea what the content of the outer puggaree fabric is?

G'day USBSwLOCK, The hat badge in the vid is Royal Australian Corp of Transport (RACT). It does look kind of like a sheriff's badge, LOL. Thanks for viewing. Regards Ash.
@@Hugs4drugs08 Right, so. It does, a bit. Plenty of English speaking countries have 'em, it's just that the same name is used for wildly different roles. In England and Wales it's an honorary position. In Scotland, a sheriff is a kind of magistrate. In Ontario, they serve writs, in Alberta, they are law enforcement officers. In the USA, what a sheriff is and what he or she does varies pretty dramatically by state.
G'day Y'all, I just made another vid demonstrating the use of a drill and drill bit to produce the holes through the puggaree. In that case, it might come out mottled. I'll have to research dyeing polyester.
