There is a reason man needs nature. There is a reason we need to escape.
My younger son (mid-20’s) asked me the meaning of life. “Is this all it is?”. I told him that we are like the the deer in the forest. Every day the deer gets up and looks for food. And occasionally the deer runs into something like an apple tree, which is totally orgasmic, but it doesn’t last as the apples as soon gone, and it’s back to the same ol’ stuff.
We as humans have the ability to find things we like, and engage in them. The truly lucky among us find that thing that genuinely make us feel “alive”.
Life is like that. Mundane, punctuated with occasional bouts or terror, or excitement, as well as levels on either side of that bell curve. It’s up to us to seek the side of the curve that rewards us.
For me, it’s been a few things, some of which I can no longer do. But I always feel alive on a motorcycle. I think others here do as well.
And that’s a big part of life. People will let you down, they won’t understand you. But nature will nourish your soul, and a motorcycle will take you there.
    Ride on brother.

Hey man I have watched your Baja series a few times through and this video brings it all together. As someone who loves baja, loves motorcycles and suffers from depression this hits home. I am glad that you are doing better.
For us motorcycle riders it is when we are the most lost that we are found.
I hope to see you on the trail someday brother.

Thanks for watching! It took a long time before I was ready to tell the whole story. I'm confident that you will arrive on the other side with me brother, it takes some work but just lean in and take your path!

Thanks for the personal reflections on lessons learned. Never taking yourself to seriously helps lighten the weight that perceptions and expectations pile on. I think when you're purposely living each day you're destined to find yourself and draw from what you discover to the benefit of everyone around you. Stay strong.

Looking back on it there were very few things in life that I needed to take seriously. Live in the moment and life is such an incredible ride and so much fun!

Thank you, I’m sorry to hear that. I look at this much like a group ride and now that I'm on the other side of that obstacle if I can help the next rider through then that is how it's done. Right?

Thanks for sharing your story with us, Joel, and I'm so glad that you're feeling better now! The struggle is real, and it lives in all of us. Living for one's self and finding inner peace is terribly underrated and understated in today's society, particularly for men. It often seems that we work and toil for family and loved ones with no apparent reward for our efforts. Our entire existence seems to be valued only upon what we contribute or accomplish for others... it's the "what have you done for me lately" mentality.
I wish you continued prosperity and peace of mind, my friend! Keep fighting the good fight and remember that you're not really alone even if it feels that way sometimes. 🙏 --QM

Couldn't agree more Quasi. Sounds like a major depressive episode. I wonder if marital conflict triggered the event. Riding is a good cure. Gives others time to reflect our value during our absence. Men have no value at birth, we have to earn it. Make privilege my ass!

Thank you. Yah you have to take care of yourself before you can be any meaningful use to others. People intrinsically understand this but the mechanisms / systems that we have created don't.
