ruclips.net/video/lUdF2CbKIa8/видео.html Bill O'Reilly tried targeting Marilyn Manson for school violence, and pretty much steals the show.

@@pedrofernando94 Ugh, "Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher". That lazy faux-liberal fucker is still on TV with his cavalcade of irresponsible platforming, for some reason. I'm a progressive, and I can't stand the man, because he claims to speak for the left and makes us look like the shallow privileged ignoramuses the right likes to pretend we are. If you need an example of the extreme sloth I'm referring to, he literally said, on his show, "Why do people need the Internet? I have 3 researchers who look things up for me. Why don't people just do that?".
I mean, how stupid would you have to be to say something that obviously nonsensical out loud, let alone on international TV on a show with your fucking name in the title?

One of my all time favorite songs, yes incredibly simple to play. This song is really about the fascism of beauty and the strangle hold that beauty standards has on self esteem. The beautiful people are really the ones who society would consider ugly, and the horrible people are the ones who make you feel less of a human, because of your lack of meeting their standards of beauty.
Their band names were a combination of celebrities and serial killers to illustrate how the media glorifies both types.
One of my favorite quotes by him is; when asked about what he thought about people burning his merchandise " they can crush them up and snort them for all I care, so long as they pay for them first."

Don't feel sad for him. He is a genius, and he SHOULD keep on making music as long as he wants to. IDK why anyone would tell a person to retire if there are people like me who still love them.

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa! Manson just released a new album and it was alright, but the one from 2015, The Pale Emperor, might be his best ever. It is great from beginning to end. It's stripped down blues influenced rock/metal and it's fantastic. Check it out or react to a song from it. Third Day Of A Seven Day Binge, Deep Six, or Killing Strangers are my suggestions.

Yeah the last 2 Manson albums have been a big improvement. I have a certain amount of love for some of those middle period, less popular records but they each had their own flaws and didn't fully reach their potential. The last 2 though have been quite the artistic comeback for him.

  • @crossofcrimson

While this song in particular is fairly mild, I do think Vin is underselling both his subversiveness as well as the depth of his content - particularly regarding this era of MM. It's true enough that there was no shortage of Evangelicals who assumed the worst from very little; the title of that record, his appearance, etc. But that doesn't mean there weren't more substantial ideas therein or things that weren't truly controversial....even by today's standards. I mean, he was known for giving faux-sermons while ripping apart or lighting bibles, wiping his ass with the American flag, and self-cutting and otherwise mutilating himself, as well as performing sexual acts (including fellatio on another man)....on stage. Of course, there were more controversial acts both before and after his time, but none with his commanding presence and popularity. He was a complete phenomenon of that time that would be hard to explain for anyone who didn't live through it.
But putting the stage-antics aside, what he had to say (at least for a couple of records) was not only controversial, but unusually thoughtful. I don't think he was being controversial just to be controversial - of course that was a huge part of his identity. But I think a lot of what he was trying to say had pretty profound artistic merit. And I say that as someone who hasn't liked any of his projects since the turn of the century. At the time when he was writing this record (Antichrist Superstar), he was pretty heavily influenced by the philosophies of Anton LaVey and Nietzsche, and related themes are felt all over the record. Even in a song that seems pretty straight-forward like "The Beautiful People", there's a pretty clear parallel in his dichotomy of beauty/conformity (or celebrity) and freedom to the Nietzschean deconstruction of good and evil vs. good and bad...slave morality vs master morality.
And these themes are also layered over a conceptual narrative. There's kind of a story-arch to the album as a whole, putting himself into the role of an (anti)Christ-like figure who is resented, worshiped, misunderstood, and reviled; which is one reason why it's a great candidate for an album listening. But if you're looking for more straightforwardly controversial songs from this album, "Irresponsible Hate Anthem", "Little Horn", "Antichrist Superstar", "The Reflecting God", and "Man That You Fear" are all great candidates.
Anyways, sorry for the insanely long comment but I thought it was worth elaborating a bit. Keep up the great work, guys!

Holywood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death) album is his golden standard. That whole album resonated so strongly at that time, but not near as much as it resonates to now with media, guns, school shootings, etc.

    • @crossofcrimson
      @crossofcrimson 6 лет назад +2

I think the argument could definitely be made that Holy Wood is his most focused, artistically-sound album. I might even agree. In fact, I can still remember first opening the album in a mall parking lot and being incredibly excited after only hearing the opening track. At the time, it was being heralded as a return to form for him; a dip back into his pre-Mechanical-Animals darkness. It's no surprise how popular it was, and remains, with his fans.
But, for better or worse, I think his star had already been waning at this point. To be fair to him, I'm not sure if there's anything else he could have done artistically to pull himself back into the firestorm Antichrist Superstar created. So many things, culturally, had to line up for it to be the iconic album that it was. It was the right message, with the right aesthetic, at the right time that solidified its place in musical history. It made more of an impact on my generation than anything else he would subsequently release. I can certainly say it made more of an impact on me.
Whether the measure of "impact" is enough to afford it the title of "greatest" among his albums is a much larger conversation. But I think it really has to be given consideration.

    • @Amzingred
      @Amzingred 6 лет назад +1

Their is no debate for me. It is his best album he's ever made as far as a cohesive message from beginning to end, and he fucking nailed it harder than being nailed on the cross. (pun album cover) Its the one album that basically is the only one relevant to this day compared to his other albums of the 90's, and definitely his last exceptional album until Pale Emperor came along. (to me. the third best album)

Communism is not fascism. Fascism is the merger of corporation and state in a monetary monopoly imposed. Communism is the supposed to be the people taking control to destroy money and take certain social and educational methods to achieve over the time of authoritarian dictatorship an evolution and changing of human behavior to enable final transition into Anarchy - the rule of none but the people themselves via direct democracy ( no leaders ) Fascism acts like communism and communism has authoritarian tendencies but the aim of the two systems is very different, ideally. Fascism is all about authoritarian dictatorship, with no transition; capital and monetism is controlled, but enabled. This is all in theory, however and no society has ever had enough time in either system to see the final intricacies of the system unfurl. Both fall under control of tyrannical leaders though, and that ultimately stifles the ideological path that was idealized via philosophy. Some way must be found to deal with tyranny itself, before a path to any ideal society can be paved.

Manson always wants to make people think, whether they actually believe what they believe or if they've been told to. Always wants to challenge society and people. He's so incredibly intelligent while doing it, taht he automatically exposes hypocrites from all over. Even from his "own camp", the nonbelievers. In other words, he encourages people to think for themselves. And like you say, he provides a voice for the outcasts; the people that society don't care about. I think you mixed facism and authortarianism. Communism is not Facism they are pretty different ideologies. Facism tends to put traditionalist and nationalist principles over the of communism. Communism that isn't Anarcho communism is authortarianism, facism however can only be a dictatorship. So communism and facism are extremely different as communism is an economic theory and not necessarily authortarian unlike facism which can only be a dictatorship that enforce traditionalasm and nationalism

Realistic thought yes, nationalism isn't bad, but to compare i.e conservative nationalism which is moderate versus nationalism in facism is very different. I isn't supported Anti-fa they're fighting the wrong fight, let alone they are Anarcho I'm authortarian

Anarcho communism works in small scale but if you want true anarchy you have to go to the extremest of rightwing. No goverment, no laws, everyone for themselves.

David Henriksson I'm not doubting that the Soviets and CCP are nationalistic, there's nothing wrong with it. But facism HAS to be nationalistic, communism has had multiple areas where nationalism has been debated or a more global approach i.e Stalins "socialism in one country" Vs Trotsky's "Permanent Revolution" but Marx orginally envisioned a word without borders with mass worker liberation.

The song's characteristic element is its repetitive drum track, a five-beat common time pattern played on floor toms, in which swung notes create a jazzy, triplet feel, which goes really well with the Wiemar theme he was going for with the lyrics. That's the genius of the song

  • @benwebb4424

lol @ Paved the way for Behemoth. Someone hasn't done their research. Behemoth formed as a band in 1991, Manson's first album wasn't until 94. I don't think MM had any influence on Behemoth. Maybe someone like Alice Cooper could have paved the way for Behemoth, but even that seems like a bit of a stretch since Behemoth aren't really a shock rock band of any sort. Behemoth would have existed with or without Manson, and Grom and Thelema would both be considered classics whether or not Manson existed. Never mind the fact that Poland's initial fame wasn't even with an American audience, and came from a scene that has no real connection to MM.
I love ya Vin, but sometimes you say the weirdest things.

I hate to be that guy but, you were a little off on your description of fascism. Fascism is an example of an extremely right wing authoritarian state characterized by extreme nationalism and very conservative appeals to the good old days when “we were great” rhetoric. What you were describing as fascism is authoritarian communism which is almost the opposite in being an extreme left wing ideology. There is a reason that Russia was against the Axis in WWII on an ideological level and the differences in these two systems is at the root of it.

Exactly this. Fascists and Communists are mortal enemies, they absolutely hate each others guts, it's why Antifa was created in 1930s Germany by Communists and Anarchists. It's also why you had Communists and Socialists in the Spanish Civil War fighting against Franco's Fascist armies. Fascism is quite specific in what it does, and how it acts, and to hand wavingly imply that Communism is Fascist is sooo utterly anti-Historic, I'm frankly really, really disappointed in Vin by this.

I am always a little suspicious when people identifying themselves as Christians are
going into metal territory (no, I'm not an atheist, satanist or even pagan. It's more
like this: some people are colorblind, I am religion-blind). Many people will never
acknowledge metal as an acceptable musical genre and will view it as aggresion-inducing
or satanic, or at least as something utterly unlistenable, never even trying to
understand it or uncover it's deeper layers of emotions. I checked one of your videos a while ago and expected to see
some zealous disgust as to how dirty and brutal metal music is, but was pleasantly
surprised when you both showed authentic understanding and fascination. You really seem
to enjoy what you're hearing; it's incredible to witness this. ;-) Sadly, it's not that common, at least in my country - music
tends to be something to dance to, not a piece of art.
And thanks to you I noticed for the first time some nuances in lyrics even in songs I've
listened to dozens, if not hundreds, of times (as in "Her Ghost in the Fog" or "Harlequin
Forest") ;-) Continue doing the good work!
Lengthy and boring entry aside - if you don't mind, I am curious about your opinion on
Fallujah - Void Alone. First time I found death metal so brutal and at - the same time -
subtle, otherwordly, transcendent, even jazzy. It's something you don't hear every day!
(I strongly suggest official lyrics video, as it amplifies that feeling of
    transcendence).
I might yet again find some time and courage to recommend you something, but I'd like to
know what you prefer... Brilliance in musicianship or rather in lyrics? Or in what is the
music about? Are you willing to react to non-metal? Or instrumental music (obviously not,
    I guess? :-p )?

Well, I actually like Marilyn Manson, but Beautiful People just does nothing for me... i'd give it about the score same as Sori, just slightly higher.
On the other hand, I do love a lot of the "Mechanical Animals" album, I just love the atmosphere, it's not about "heaviness", if I want heavy stuff I'm not gonna listen to Marilyn Manson, so songs like "Coma White" or "The Last Day on Earth" are just awesome for me, and that's the Manson I like. But, for Sori, I think she'd definitely enjoy something like "The Fight Song" from Holy Wood more than this.

Minimum wage is not a good solution to the problem of the people how needs two jobs to not be kicked out on the streets.
However the US got rid of there protection from the employers fury by accepting the "right to work" and not supporting the unions.
However in Europe we never gave up our unions, even if there has been pushes for it here (at least in my country). So here we got quite good low income rates even without minimum wages.
But currently the world is leaving somewhat managed capitalism and going in to oligarchy or corporatism, strongly lead by the increase in automatization of many areas.
So we need to come up with a new economy soon where very few people actually work for a living.

It should also be pointed out that Antichrist Superstar, Mechanical Animals, and Holy Wood all form a 3-part Concept Album/Rock-Opera story called "The Triptych".
*(But in reverse order, because he had written Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals as solo stories before Holy Wood)*
To give a _very brief_ summary:
Holy Wood is about a man named Adam Kadmon who was living in Holy Wood (a themepark-city of rockstars, celebrities, and drug addiction) but was cast out into the Valley of Death when he broke the mold. He decides to lead a rebellion against Holy Wood and rally the other outcasts, but when the rebellion becomes popular enough he becomes just like the people of Holy Wood that he despised.
Mechanical Animals is essentially 2 separate stories, and not told in track order (the actual order can be found online). The first is the story of Alpha, a washed up rockstar fresh out of rehab who may or may not be Adam. After sobering up and seeing his fellow rockstars making the same mistakes he beings to view them as "Mechanical Animals", robotic, fake, and always obeying their masters. He meets a girl named Coma White and they have a thing while in rehab, but he's not sure if she's pretending or if she actually likes him for him (not his money). She kills herself before he can find out.
The second story is of Omega. He's an androgynous alien who crashlands in the Hol(l)y Wood Hills and is taken to a research lab, they hear that he can sign so they dress him up, pump his veins full of drugs and forces him to start a band called "Omega and the Mechanical Animals". While he's living the high life with his bandmates he becomes cold, numb, and distant believing every human is just as horrible as his producers. He also falls in love with Coma White, but decides that she's just a hallucination from the drugs. He only learns that she's real when he sees her suicide on the news, making him even more Dried Up, Tied, and Dead to the World (Antichrist Superstar song) than ever before.
Antichrist Superstar opens at an Omega and the Mechanical Animals concert where they sing "The Irresponsible Hate Anthem". A bullied & despised young boy who's only known as "The Worm" is attending his favorite band, and even has backstage passes! After the show, he goes backstage and meets Omega, who tells him to fuck off because he's not beautiful enough (Beautiful People) nor does he have any drugs to sell (Dried Up, Tied, and Dead to the World). The Worm, hearing his one and only inspiration telling him to get lost, understandably gets lost. He then wallows in self-loathing until he decides to essentially get revenge by becoming even better than Omega. He's constantly sending letters to Omega while he grows and gains popularity (Deformagraphy, Wormboy, then Mister Superstar), asking him - basically - the "why won't you just love/accept me!?" sort of things.
The Worm eventually goes through his last metamorphosis but instead of becoming a beautiful butterfly, he becomes "The Angel With The Scabbed Wings" and is the most popular person in the world. Then as he's still too wrapped up in his hatred and revenge, he begins tearing down the world, becoming known as "The Disintegrator" and "The Antichrist Superstar". After destroying all of the world, he's the only one left, and realizes how lonely it is and how revenge and mindless destruction only leads loneliness and self-destruction. The album - no, the trilogy, ends on that note with the quote "When all of your wishes are granted, many of your dreams will be destroyed".
And yeah, that was longer then I expected but that's the basic gist. I kind of glosses over Holy Wood but there's 19 songs on that album and I could write a paragraph or two about pretty much every song in the entire Triptych. Of course each song has a meaning outside of the story, but that'd take even longer to dissect. :P
Really enjoyed the video and if I applaud whoever read through this entire comment.

Those are good suggestions below but it’s also an immature album the “intensity” you’re looking for will not be found in Marilyn. He was built up as an evil demonic figure head and that’s really a large reason for his massive fame. But his lyrics are pretty mild compared to what you’ve become exposed to. So if you want to hear the violent depraved side of Marylyn listen to his first album.

Absolutely agree with Vin that Manson's appeal and popularity both received a massive boost off the hatedom he attracted/baited. I think what helped as well though was the fact that he was a superb, charismatic showman and larger-than-life character, with a subtly open and welcoming, if acerbic, message.
