  • Thanks for checking out my new channel. I’ve been a maker for a little over 7 years or so now and always toyed with the idea of starting a channel. This current pandemic has given me a lot of downtime from my day job, so perfect time to finally give this a try. I have some recordings over the years I hope to go through but also create new content. This first in the series of Can Crane Make This is from my most recent project making new storage for all our Vinyl Records that have just been collecting dust on our floor since we moved to our new house. I hope you enjoy the build and please follow for more to come. The quality will get better!

    Your project is actually worth using some better wood but I understand as all lumber prices have gone through the roof the last 3-4 years. Very cool regardless!!

    Best looking record shelf I have seen. I’m not a woodworker, think l’ll look into making one as close as I can. And able to make it fit an area is such a great bonus.

      Thanks! Def give it a try, and you don’t even have to go as far as doing the dowel plugs for the screws if you don’t want it’s just an extra little aesthetic touch really if you don’t mind exposed screws

    Love this design! Simple and effective. Been searching for solutions for my record collection and I think this is it. I'll have a go at making it myself. Thanks!

    These were beautiful. We have been looking for a way to get the vinyl off the floor. I want to give it a go. Would you be willing to put some plans, or measurements up?

    • @CanCraneDoIt
      @CanCraneDoIt  2 года назад

      Thank you. I don’t have exact plans. A lot of it was fit to space I needed but: side pieces 12.75" , top and bottoms 34" cut from 2x12s. Middle spacers cut from 2x4s sqauared edges to about 3.25 but space between can really be to taste and about 7.25" long centered between each shelf

    Great video mate, thanks so much for sharing!! 2 quick questions - 1.what size Forstner bit were you using for the dowels? 2. What length/head size wood screws were you using?

    • @CanCraneDoIt
      @CanCraneDoIt  3 года назад

      Thanks! I was using 3/4in dowels to fill the holes so used a 3/4 Forstner and the screws were #10 3 1/2 inch

    I really like this design. How many records will this hold approximately? Also do you have the working dimensions that you used?

    • @CanCraneDoIt
      @CanCraneDoIt  3 года назад +1

      Thanks so much! Each shelf is holding about 130-140 records depending on their thickness. A lot of it was fit to space I needed but: side pieces 12.75" , top and bottoms 34" cut from 2x12s. Middle spacers cut from 2x4s sqauared edges to about 3.25 but space between can really be to taste and about 7.25" long centered between each shelf

    How is it holding up so far with the weight of the records?

    • @CanCraneDoIt

      Excellent. The 2x12s seem pretty sturdy. The placement of the middle braces between the shelves help a lot by being placed more towards the center of the design. I could post a little update on IG or something of how it’s doing. Thinking of building a similar structure as a bookcase on other side of room
