Thank you, Eric. This has been a topic of much research and discussion, and many trips down to Wasilla in the last few weeks. Jordan's been trying to convey gun stuffs to me for weeks, but this helped a ton. I loved the feel of the Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan 44 Magnum, but that kickback... Let's just say my hunting rifle is youth sized. Thank you for taking some time to put this together for us all. Helped a ton... as usual.
The 454 is no joke. Good shooting.
From the research I have done, it seems that there are the Alaska Bellingham Ferry's that do not stop in Canadian ports. I will be looking into the transportation of firearms on the Alaskan Bellingham Ferry
I grew up shooting a Ruger 22 rifle - great gun 👍
I know you have the 454 casull but for bear protection but if your going to carry a glock I would sell your G22 and get the G20 10mm round is another good round for bear protection love your vids keep up the great work and I hope to do the same as u guys and move my family up to Alaska this summer
a very interesting aspect of living in Alaska. I'd love to see one more episode.
gotta love your choice in guns
That 45 70 is a beast :)
Good video. However much of this is already out of date. Fedex and UPS no longer ship firearms, at lease in WA. Also I spoke to Alaska Ammo about using FFL to ship to myself (via FFL) and he said since I'm not an Alaska resident, this is not allowed. Fun !!
Really liking your channel! It's great to see and follow such a different lifestyle from mine here in the UK. One thing I'm curious about is do you collect the gun shell cases after they're spent or just leave them on the ground? Keep up the great videos!
Tom Corbett we do collect them ☺ we don't reuse though.
@@SimpleLivingAlaskaYou've made my day, both replying to my question and hearing that you collect them up afterwards and don't leave them on the ground! Have a great day!! Sun is shining here in Bristol! Have fun.
Excellent, Thank you!
In watching your videos it appears that the .454 is your daily carry - bear protection?
Ak downrange off Mouldoon will only charge $15 for FFL transfers He is a very good guy and I've been dealing with him since he had his business out of his home has exotic firearms for sale too....please don't carry that 357 for bear protection 45-70 or 457 only If u shop at 3 bears they have pistol grip moseburg shotgun $375
Yes thank u! I was wondering how we could ship them
glad i found this video, my wife and i are considering a similar move in a couple/three years and this has been a bugaboo in the back of my mind. I've read that canada allows you to bring a certain amount of ammo over without additional paperwork but that you can bring a lot of ammo over but you just have to do paper work or something. If anyone knows and can clarify i would really appreciate your knowledge. Thanks for the video!
That's funny . As a Canadian I'm allowed to bring in 5000 rounds of ammo from the States . The kicker is I'm not allowed to have any ammo while in the States . Laws have changed . Used to order from Cabelas and ship to my US address . Not anymore . You cannot order ammo into New York State anymore more even if you live there . I wouldn't bring any ammo if I was you . UPS ships ammo . If you have a lot than use them . I can order ammo from 2000 miles away in Canada and UPS ships it . UPS also ships guns across Canada . Don't know why he used FEDX . $500 to ship his guns sounds very expensive . I can order any gun from 2,000 miles away in Canada and have it shipped to my home and pay maybe $15 to $25 per gun . Ever since 9/11 the States have made it hard to bring in guns to that country . We used to go skeet shooting in the US for the day . Not anymore too much American government crap to deal with .As for bringing in handguns into Canada . FORGET IT . Not allowed to carry hand guns in Canada . You can but only to a registered gun club . You also must have a PAL which means that you have been checked out by the RCMP . You must have a PAL to have any ammo as well . In Canada a person must go through background checks and safety course before you can buy a gun or ammo .
@@henryrodgers3409 Having shipped guns I've sold via gun broker, 500 dollars to ship your collection to Alaska is nothing. Its likely that when you buy. your guns, they're coming either from cabalas or another FFL who often is able to use USPS or has company "memberships/pricing" with places like fed ex or ups, or perhaps within Canada? I think part of the problem with shipping to Alaska is it has to go either by boat or plane as I'm guessing its too much of a hassle (or impossible) to ground it through Canada.. Also, ammo bought from a "dealer" and shipped is likely different than shipping ammo as a private individual. Maybe UPS does it, but I know Fed ex won't. Thanks for the input, I'm trying to put pieces of info together that I'm getting from a lot of different people.
Oh wow very interesting!
Interesting selection of arms. Not what I would have expected.
In there latest Moose hunting video , she was using a .270 . 45-70 is a great close range rifle , but for two or three hundred yard shots a nice 270 , 30-06 , 7mm Mag , 300 Mag is much better choice for Moose/Bear/Caribou .
Ruger Super Redhawk in 454 Casull, Alaskan or Toklat - there are no substitutes.
WOW! When I was stationed in Alaska at Eielson AFB in 1983-84 you could drive through Canada with any rifles or shotguns and no paperwork at all. They didn't even want to know the details of them, but handguns were illegal to bring through. I already knew that so I shipped the handguns and the govt. paid for that. 😁. Passports weren't required, either.
Since your carrying a hand gun you might want to check into USCCA. I am only a member, but they have a program to provide and pay for an attorney if you have to us your gun in self defense (against a human, LoL). I get nothing if you become a member.
Great video and collection
454 had some recoil huh
Haha yes, he just shot it once 😁
Shipping that nice collection of firearms would have me a little worried until I received confirmation that they had arrived safely. Glad it worked out.
We should have mentioned it but we insured the packages for the value of the firearms. Although we were hoping not to lose them!
Simple Living Alaska I figured that you did. I just worry 😆 Yeah That would be a bummer having to replace them, especially any family heirlooms.
Thanks for sharing. Are you hoping to do some hunting in Alaska ?
Nick Donaldson, why yes of course! Hoping to go ice fishing again soon and hoping to harvest a moose this fall, not sure how much bird hunting we will do though :) We are also planning to have livestock in the future.
Here in the uk we’re not permitted to have hand guns unless they are rimfire target pistols and then it’s extremely difficult to get a license. Rifles are a little easier but they have to be single shot. Shotguns 12g, 410 etc as long as they have a 3 cartridge magazine are less difficult, semi auto shotguns with more than 3 shots are difficult to get approval for. All this stems from 1 school shooting. I wonder how easily we can bring our shotguns to Alaska.
3:46 you know you was shooting 45 long colts. 😂 j/k
This video made me want to go shoot.
I’ve never shot a Glock. If we ever make it to Willow I might have to swing by and squeeze off a few rounds.
I’ve taken my hunting rifle through Canada a couple of times but never a pistol. I think you can bring revolvers.
Hey if you guys have never been on a dog mushing ride you should go. It’s spendy I’m sure. It we went 15 years ago and as soon as we left the aurora came out. It was awesome being pulled by dogs and having the sky lit up with green, blue and red colors.
ALASKA is magical. Oh it was -50 so a little chill that day. lol
Ha just shot it once because ammo is so pricey! My glock shoots very nice and I love having the light mounted on it. We are always looking for a reason to shoot! Maybe we will just hook up our two dogs to a sled...
Yeah hook the pups up. lol
Well it should be obvious why you let the smaller caliber weapons use the range first.
Hi, love your channel, I was wondering which model Ruger your .357 is ?
Government, always making things complicated and expensive.
Yeah but here's my problem. I have thousands of rounds and reloading supplies are scarce down here in Utah. I don't want to sell my ammo just to get to Alaska and have zero ammo or reloading supplies.
private air flight or sailboat maybe?
Fed Ex has got sticky fingers lately. FedEx Driver got caught stealing firearms off the Truck in Massachusetts and only got 6 Days in Jail with a suspended sentence.
Nice!
Did you have to ship to a dealer and did you have any state or federal paper work to fill out ?
Richard Heding, yes we did ship to a dealer but there was no paperwork we filled out. We had verbal confirmation with the dealer.
Eric, I really enjoy your videos; what kind of holster do you use with your Glock 19? Thanks. Gary
Gary Wiegand Thanks for watching! The holster is from Blackdog Concealment. Great holster I have had for about 4 years, the pistol is a Gen 4 Glock 22 with a Streamlight TLR-1.
Why is this video blacked out?
On target 🎯
UPS ships ammo for future reference
Ouch 500 bucks? I wasnt aware pistols had to be overnighted so i guess will have to rethink some things. So you werent allowed to bring any ammo of the boarder?
Yes with the insurance, and it goes by weight. Canada has some pretty serious restrictions on firearms, you can declare certain stuff (not handgun ammo) but we really didn't want to be searched.
@@SimpleLivingAlaska yea I can understand not wanting to be searched. Thank you for the info I will have to dig deeper all read was the amount of ammo you could bring through. I did not consider not allowing pistol ammo through
You could probably ship the pistols separately overnight, and the bigger gun cases using a cheaper shipping option.
Sorry I cannot find a property tour. Is there one? If so how many acres?
Sam Brady I don't think we have an official tour video but our property is 3.6 acres.
Simple Living Alaska ok thank you! A property that tour would be a great video if you guys made one!
Simple Living Alaska ok thank you! A property that tour would be a great video if you guys made one!
Shipping anything overnight is expensive.
you mentioned you couldn't bring certain guns because of Canada?
👍
Safe direction?
Is there a phone number for Zona Holsters?
I’m late but another way around Canadian gun laws put stuff in a container n have it shipped via boat from west coast to AK.
Lot of people use USPS Priority Mail to ship handguns, American law requires handguns go via Air so next day is used by many n some do 2nd day/Priority Mail. I would of just made a big case out of wood to store guns n ship that one crate or find a pelican case. For those that come across this looking to move. I know ammo can be shipped in the lower 48 not sure how it gets to AK or HI
ID also ditch 22 to a 20 or 10mm n the 357 to 44/10mm if not then 40 with 180 hard cast. Living the dream guys, so jealous 😂
Odd requirement, shipping those overnight. Even in Canada, that is not required. The handguns are classed as restricted, but can ship as any other package from any post office to any address in the country. Ammo goes via Canpar. And I hope you reload for all those things, it sure is alot cheaper than buying factory. We reload for everything we own except .22LR, and Tom has even considered getting the kit for that with the speed we can go through them on a range day LMAO. We do happen to own some obsolete stuff like the Swiss Vetterli which was originally a .41 rimfire but he helped convert it back in the 1970's to a centrefire that uses 8mm Lebel brass.
The odd thing about our licensing system here, or one anyway, is that purchasing ammo requires a valid license but possessing it does not. But don't try to make sense of our classification system, there is no rhyme or reason. Ruger 10/22 is perfectly ok, classed as non-restricted, but because the drum mags can be (theoretically) used with one of their hand guns, the drum mags are restricted.
> I've never had to use a license to purchase ammo, only guns.
👍🏻
are you allowed to have assault rifles and hi cap mags in Alaska?
Yes . Alaska has some of the least stringent gun laws of any state , because everyone up there actually needs them .
Assault rifle? LOL you know an assault rifle is fully automatic right?
Is there a reason you only shot the 454 one time ? it didnt kick that hard did it ?
🦄🦄🖤🖤
Great information... cause i thought about moving to AK and was assuming that i could stuff everything into a shipping container
and paying to have it all shipped !
I originally wanted to move to the Yukon mountains but the Canadians let the Freemason Govt take their equipment (gunz)
So... F that! :] ]
You can have rifles without much hassle in Canada. Pistols are the real struggle.
Guys, please be less cool, you're making the rest of us look bad. And Arielle handled that howitzer of a 45/70 like a stone cold boss!
so its more about showing off your collection than real advice. We didn't need to see you set that target up at the beginning either. lol funny
