I been saying this a lot. The shogun shouldn’t have disbanded his clan and marked him a traitor. Since he’s the reason why tsushima won. But japan hierarchy feared that title the ghost, Jin was given, would be more respected than the samurai’s.

Someone said that this was “Japan rewriting” it’s history but it really doesn’t make the Samurai look good. As far as we can tell, there’s only one in the story who seems to care more about the people than about his own name.
This is actually an attack on the Samurai, not a romanticization. It’s a honorable way to look at the Shinobi (which we know that they actually were filled with lower class warriors), The fact that we now know that this game was inspired by a mysterious statue of “The Ghost of Tsushima” a warrior who “raised from
The dead at the beach to slaughter mongol invaders” is really cool.

Jin in the end was a hero to the island, but he doesn't get a happy ending, the closest thing to it is when you kill shimura, giving him an honorable death, but that end doesn't really fit with his character. Jin sacrificed his way of life to save his people, and he was exiled for it

This was a wonderful story and to me, it was an inside look at how the Shinobi was born, AND how the Samurai’s rigid code made them predictable. History doesn’t tell you how the Samurai lost many men in combat, and how the Shinobi (the Ninja) struck fear in the hearts of their opposition. I’d be a Ninja any day!

I took one history class in Japan, years from the Jomon period up to the 1800s (basically before westernization).
Tough class, lots of reading that are not the most exciting (for me). But one of the things that stood out for me was that the samurai code of Bushido was only really practiced during peace times, when Japan’s era of warring states ended and unified under Tokugawa. But during wars between countless clans and alliances warlords did pretty much anything that would lead to a win.
The game’s story is about criticizing the romanticized idea of samurai in media while using it as a medium. Lord Shimura represents the dogmatic approach of samurai ideology.

During this time period the Shogun had power rivaling the Emperor himself, though would've been brought to his attention. Plus there's not much mention of the Emperor in the game. As for Jin, I believe he's defending his home, but realizes that he needs more then himself, and the Samurai, he needs to rally the people to make a stand against the invaders.

Late as fuck to this but I feel dialogue has a lot to do with this. This is the theoretical start of the ninja. Explained by a story and narrative of a samurai who had no where else to turn, this is the fictional story of the origins of the ninja. In japan, tradition is a heavy part of the culture, hence why they have so much suicide in the country. The tradition of suicide to keep ones honour is heavy still. Hence why they have a suicide FOREST. Idk, that’s my take. Fucking good video dude

The beginning of the game shows that in lore the samurai depended on sheer numbers and power instead of employing tactics at first and it also shows how strict the samurai code was in the game to prevent them from looking dishonorable instead of actually being honorable and how them getting stuck in their ways was their downfall and how individualized the samurai weren’t along with showing us how the greater good requires things that may seem dishonorable at the time but in the end it was worth it

    • @Embrace-truth-that-is-christ
