Today my wife gave me a priceless 10 year anniversary gift, 4 days with Mike this December. As a 10 year old kid the first fly fishing video I ever watched (on vhs of course) was Jack Dennis fishing in New Zealand since that day I have dreamed of flying half way across the world to catch a big brown. Thank you Babe for taking one item off the bucket list
As a brown trout fisher from Scotland, I am more than keen to try and catch one of these magnificent specimens. Ours are babies compared to them. Excellent fishing skills Kristen, and with the fantastic help of guide Mike it just looks like a dream trip. Bucket list for me.
Hi Mike and Kresten. As an Aussie interloper I have fished in NZ every season for over ten years, based out of Twizel and I love the place. Your ethos and your dedication to catching magnificent fish in beautiful places, and letting them all go, showcases to the world why New Zealand is so special, and why we all keep coming back. Forget the razzamataz of trout bums and glory fishing, you two guys take us all to the place we want to be. Kersten, you have some very sublime skills, I wish I could be as calm as you every time I net a 7 pounder. And Mike, you define the concept of less is more. Tight lines and thanks for the memories. Two weeks until I hit Mackenzie country. Thanks. James
i would have to agree with so many of the others comments, stunning. For the love of the water an the fish. May our childfen have the beauty an oppertunity of places unspoiled. One can hope.
Mate, seriously I have watched thousands of trout fishing videos. I love them and this is honestly the best trout fishing video I have ever watched. Thank you for sharing and taking the time to answer everybody's questions. I've been lucky enough to travel to NZ a few times and it is just a stunning country. Tight lines and keep up the good work
I have fished New Zealand many times from North Island to the south end of South Island. That is an amazing piece of video and I take a lot of video myself. It was well edited and I know how difficult it is to edit properly. My hat is off to you. It takes a lot of dedication, effort, planning, and skill, and more than a little bit of good luck.
Very entertaining gentlemen!! Just started fly fishing for trout in the last 2 years after 32 years of salt and fresh water in oz. Very hooked!! It's video like yours that got me into it. Good friend just moved to and bought a place in Invercargill. Want to get over there this or next year. Really good quality stuff mike. Thanks.
Wonderful production, really enjoy your clips. You and "troutboynz" produce some of the best New Zealand fly fishing content, it's raw, real, not manufactured and makes you feel like you're sharing the 'moment'. Top stuff.
Hey Big fella- another wonderful example of your creativity in media and delivering another captivating piece of Latitude Guiding cinema! Kresten isn't bad either. Honestly we cant wait to catch up with you for that trip of a lifetime next November- hope you can do 3 into the place we have discussed- Dave and Pete keen. Stay healthy and safe.
I can definitely relate to the desire to venture off the beaten path. These days I just feel like a sleazy john looking for a hook up when I go to one of those big name southland rivers. So this season I aim to fish the remote places almost exclusively.
Wonderful video. One day i will fish New Zealand when my casting skills improve; I've only been fishing for 2 years now. We don't get fish like that here in New York, and if we do they are few and far between. However, I am content practicing on the Neversink and the Deleware rivers until my skills are honed. What a beautiful river, I'm truly captivated by your waters. Great video guys.
Stunning footage Mike! Good to see the fish of the trip were taken on tungsten beads...Can I make a request for next year to only fish Kieran Lee's green stonefly nymph (amazing looking fly) in water similar to what is featured around the 14:00 mark? :)
Krásne pstruhy, nádherne čista voda. To že chytáte veľké pstruhy, je to len veľké klamstvo !. Vidíte kde pláva pstruh,a rovno hádžete nástrahy. Smiešne. U nás nechytíte bežné 35-ka, neporadíte nič !! . ,Musíte len poznať miesto, tak na volne oko nevidíte nič. Nástrahy sú dosť náročne na výber.
@mikefsher Canadian boy here been chasing small stream Browns my whole life. We have lots of them but they are very wary especially the big ones usually find them hiding under the under cut of the bank, nothing like seeing a 5lber come out and hammer your lure right in front of you. I have Dreamed of a new zealand trip for years and getting closer to making it happen what time of season is best in new zealand here in Canada it is late april may and a little into june
Hi mike thanks for the reply weather does not scare me im interested in more the serenity and peace when no one is there and obviously hooking some big browns. I am more of a spin rod fisherman than a fly fisher while i enjoy both the rush out of watching them come from across the river to smoke your spinner is a rush Ive yet to find from any other fishing yet. If I read this right you guys are guides in the area
So a little of each then, I also have a secret weapon these fish cant resist lol Im open to both styles of fishing. Mike what is your email so I can contact you and get some pricing and such
A very nicely made video and some good fishing technique too, a rare combination. Well done to you for sound guidance and well done to the guy with the rod for taking your advice, he's obviously not a novice angler but we can all learn from others however much we think we know.mikefsher
Fly Fishing in the UK Thanks buddy. He is a good angler and we get better as a team every year he comes here. Working as a team gets real results. No question.
Well he's a lucky guy to have the time and money to get to NZ. And he's lucky and wise enough to have found and kept a good, focused guide, you let him fish his way but point him in the right direction, slightly jealous - No envious, I don't have the time or the money at present (new baby!) but it's an aspiration, keep up the good work, both of you .
Nothing better than being in a spot where you can sit down and enjoy breakfast before heading out and don't have to worry about small platoons of fly fisherman crowding you out.
@@mikefsher thanks. It's always such a fine line. Losing fish on 5lb but not getting the bite on slightly heavier tippers. I've got so many "what if's" relating to fine tippets!!
Oh nice. I have just started flyfishing this last year I bought a 5wt guideline setup, would that be sufficient for that type of fishing? And that size fish?
Thanks mate for the kind words. I use Scott, Simms and Waterworks Lamson. My client here Kresten has converted from the Sage gear he was using in this clip
asdfilk Yep i certainly believe Lamson Reels are the best - I have a a Litespeed, 2 Speedster's and a Vanquish. Superb drags and stylish as all hell. Team them up with a Scott Radian and heaven beckons...
David G Chalk and cheese matey is how i would describe the difference between these two rods - Sage have made some nice rods, but in my opinion the One is NOT one of them. Very little 'feel' and too dead feeling and stiff. The Radian is in a different league. My challenge to anyone would be cast these together and make your mind up then. The Radian is smooth, fast with a ton of feel and a low swing weight to boot. Best rod i've ever cast.

The whole season is good and the best time would depend on what you like, better weather later or less fished over fish earlier...

muy bueno el video como se llama el patron de stonefly que ocuparon en el minuto 13:36?
what rod do u use great looking river
beautiful video!!!
what kind of pants you wear at 3.53, i've never seen that in Italy.
best flyfishing clip on youtube. what wt and brand gear did you use in this video?
Thanks mate for the kind words. I use Scott, Simms and Waterworks Lamson. My client here Kresten has converted from the Sage gear he was using in this clip
mikefsher LOVE lamson. best reels out there in my opinion. i have a litespeed 1.5 and a vanquish 7.8!

what river in NZ is that?
Its the NOYFB river!
Is Kresten using a Sage TCX?
Not sure David...
Looked like a TCX I thought
He's using a Scott Radian now - best rods ever made IMHO

I'm coming to nz bro
Where is this beatiful place? :D
great video as usual, but can i ask why i never see no smaller fish? haha
I suppose you won t share an "indication of location"...
That would be very mean of me - taking away your chance of finding it yourself!
It's sorta south-west-east of Nelson... ;-)
Wonderful video! Please can you tell me what are you wearing under your clothes and whether it is waterprooof?
They are all from trout farms.
regards John
What?
I'm sorry but there are several trout with fins ruined,
and this is a clear sign that they come from trout farms.
Regards john.
I was referring especially to the dorsal fins
Greetings !.
Que truchas mas blandas.Aqui en el Esera una trucha de ese tamaño te hace correr 100 metros rio abajo.
Don't fish there, you will be addicted the end.......trust me!
I in my comment I have not offended anyone, because in my culture
you do not use to offend.
I just pointed out what you see in the video.
regards John
You saw wrong and know little... Get it now?!
Fly Fishing Guides are more expensive than Hookers...
Namdor2012 ...said someone who probably has to use hookers...
