You may think you are crazy, strapping five engines together, but in WW2 Chrysler built the A57 Multibank tank engine, made from five inline-6 engines combined into one package. It was used operationally in the Sherman tank.

Feels like im watching a garage54 video, they did some wacky engine stuff for fun irl, like cutting 2 inline 4 together to make a inline 8,and a v8 too haha
I think you could use shenanigans, and get 36 way symmetry by placing 4 of the 9 way adapters, one each attached to a frame from the top, left, right, and bottom, and then using the 36 evenly spaced faces to create mounting points for 35 evenly spaced cylinders. With more effort, you could even use a 5 way adapter to create 5 evenly spaced mounting points to get five of the 9 way adapters for 45 pistons on a single crank. If you were really careful and used math, you could possibly go further, but it probably wouldn't be worth it.
the flywheel is supposed to be directly connected to the crankshaft. the flywheel is there to carry the engine past the points where cylinders arnt firing and to smoothen the rpms. the only reason it changed when you changed the gears is because they are now acting as the flywheel because they are bigger and there is more of them. you should try using a manual clutch since the other one activates when you might not want it to, there’s a reason they arnt used in anything more than go carts. you should have a look at some real mechanical systems to see how they are to improve your knowledge and vehicle performance.
If you want steering for the tank, put one of the standard clutches on either side and set up a differential and set the activation buttons to your steering. That's how I figured out how to do steering.
I suppose the too forceful deceleration could be solved by lowering the Braking Torque on the clutch to a very low value. Then you could use the "steering keys" to actually brake (i.e. turn into both directions at the same time).
Reminds me of the engine used by the Brits on the lent lease Shermans. They mounted a much heavier gun so a stronger gun is needed. So The engineers just slapped five engines together and combined into one hell of a monstrosity. This tank was the Sherman Firefly.
What's funny is that I've done similar things in Scrap Mechanic... By the way, anyone have any ideas or trains of thought for making an automatic transmission in this game? I've racked my brain with numerous designs and over 100 hours on this subject alone, and now I feel quite defeated with very little leads left for making the mechanical logic function WITH a functional gear ratio...
5:53 Today on "kAN kneecaps his engines": Trying to put well over 50kNm of torque through a centrifugal clutch that he reset to 5kNm. If I understand correctly, then it's not a nonsense number but determines how much torque the centrifugal clutch can pass, doesn't it?
Can you make a car that is purely powered by the little starter motors. It would almost certainly be extremely slow but you can probably play with some gears to increase the speed.
iv bin doing some experiments with U engine two opposing cranks that are gear driven . and other U engine with all pistons connected to the center crank or the old relic H engine
Correction spent too much time with WW2 German Engineers they stuck 2 bf109g engines together and put them in a bomber without changing them to assure proper cooling so it was a disaster of engine fire
The tracks are to heavy, iv built many tanks track systems and stiles and with them all if u use steel the engens suffer use a lighter material and that thing will rocket, also i made a dual diff u should try it also
SHERMAN FIREFLY MOMENT (Because the M4A4 or Sherman Mk.V was the most popular variant for lend-lease and thus conversion into Fireflies, the Chrysler Multibank became synonimous with the Firefly, which was a cannon-swap)

I’ve never heard the term operationally 😅
Now I am thinking like an engineer since I’ve never heard of this term before 😂
Dang it you beat me to it
There was also a soviet engine with 7 banks of 6, however Kans all have separate cranks connected by gearing, rather than sharing the same crank
I was going to say the same thing, but the firefly English version
beat me to the a57 multibank comparison
“Yes officer, it’s stock.”
9 times as stock

@@TopatTom that's what it said
“Just a classic 36 cylinder radial made of inline 4’s” killed me 😂
Only a mediocre displacement of one small bathtub. I think 6 of them, 3 per wing, will do nicely on our Peacemaker.
Would be a 54 cylinder radial made of Inline 6s, the absolute smoothness of that thing
11:29 I love how this beast is actually a sheep in wolf's clothing and just dies on a hill.
That's a pretty big hill though.
sokens got a good point to be fair
you made a radial engine like whats in an old prop plane
Came here to say this, wasn't disappointed someone beat me to it.
I don't know about the first radial engines but generally speaking a radial engine have one camshaft for all the cylinders
One crankshaft, generally they have 2x the cams as cylinders@@link7417
i mean he said that to begin with

0:42 ah yes. The moded class of tractors in a tractor pull. The group that makes the people who run their rigs on ethanol look sane
This is very similar to the Lycoming XR-7755 it had 9 banks of 4 cylinders connected to a single driveshaft, 5000HP.
It's the same picture, except for the fact one went in a plane and the other went in a "tank"
or Zvezda M503
This is really similar to an engine they put in some Sherman tanks.
Was going to say that it was done by gm back in the 40s
The damn British did it
Yea, specifically the lent lease Shermans to the UK, they modified the gun a mounted engine that is five car engines combined into one.

Looks like a great prop engine for a plane
Wow. Did not think it would both fit in the tank and not overpower it.. It really does take a lot to move those treads
i would like to see a quad engine aircraft fly with that monster of an engine
Engineering Phase 2.
This might be the top comment
Cool, now build an engine from eight of these in a circle :)
Glad you've been playing a lot of this since the engine update, it's a lot of fun
What game is this?
GET FIVE CAR ENGINES AND PUT THEM TOGETHER
SIR, the radio won't fit!
The fact that we actually tried this in real life and it kind of worked almost rebuilds my faith in humanity.

The centrifugal clutch is where you lose most of the torque of the engine. You should use a normal clutch or a sliding gear
Feels like im watching a garage54 video, they did some wacky engine stuff for fun irl, like cutting 2 inline 4 together to make a inline 8,and a v8 too haha

Hey, I love the editing switch up! I like the progress :) Keep making some small tweaks!
The differential is trying to balance both side's RPM which is why it's very difficult to turn. Turn the setting to zero and you should be good.
make a plane with it! (I haven't researched gear blocks at all, don't know if you can make planes, but if you can then it'd be really cool to see!!)
I suppose the too forceful deceleration could be solved by lowering the Braking Torque on the clutch to a very low value. Then you could use the "steering keys" to actually brake (i.e. turn into both directions at the same time).
*Engine RPM revving up and down.* Fly Wheel maybe? XD
Jeremy Clarkson is shivering in his trousers
Make a engine out of 8 of these
"Do you have any experience in the engine industry? A portfolio, perhaps?"
The portfolio:
That sound is crazy almost like a jet engine
I think Britain in the 40’s beat you to this with some of their M4 Shermans
"Sir the engine is no good"
"Then put 5 car engine to it"
Reminds me of the engine used by the Brits on the lent lease Shermans. They mounted a much heavier gun so a stronger gun is needed. So The engineers just slapped five engines together and combined into one hell of a monstrosity. This tank was the Sherman Firefly.
Now I'm waiting for some madman to make a V8 out of V8s. Because engine-engine.
Now do the same with 9 radial engines and make a radial radial engine
POV: British engineers during WWII:
Also reminds me of the Sherman Firefly's engine which is three engines slapped together is a \|/ formation
we have a name for that, a multi-bank.
you made a 36 cylinder radial now make a 48 cylinder radial then put that in a car
This is a real unique game, surprised nobody else tried to make a somewhat realistic mechanical engineering experience with gears and such
i knew it would happen eventually, kAN has officially become a mad scientist
this is like something Garage54 would do and then shoehorn it into a lada
kAN, there was a new update that added ratchets, angle limiters and more
the british war office when trying to put the 17 pounder in a sherman:
Sir the engines no good
There were a few WWII tanks that used radial engines.
“The classic 36 cylinder radial i4…”
🤦♂️🤷♂️
You should set your timing so two opposing cylinders are firing each time across 16 steps.
[meanwhile at the British tank development office]
I wonder how high you can set the torque on an electric motor in this game before something gets mad. And what can you do with that much torque
ok now what youtuber both has the skill and is insane enough to actually build this irl?
Ah yes, the Design is very human.
Now add 60° v8s inplace of the inline 4s!
Can you make a tank turret in this game? I know you can get loose parts, so that would be a fun addition to your tank
Now put this engine in as many different vehicles as you can think of.
What's funny is that I've done similar things in Scrap Mechanic...

a straight connection would have been good to see.
Now make an engine out of these engines engine go vroooom
make a car with 1 of these engines on each wheel
Bro casually builds a chrysler multibank tank engine on a random Wednesday
radial engines with multiple rows of cilinders do exist, they are just not like that
Can you make a car that is purely powered by the little starter motors. It would almost certainly be extremely slow but you can probably play with some gears to increase the speed.
From the thumbnail , I thought the smaller engines would be rotating around a main engine 😂
iv bin doing some experiments with U engine two opposing cranks that are gear driven . and other U engine with all pistons connected to the center crank or the old relic H engine
5k rpm starter motor goes crazy
What do you have, a V-8? No, an O-36.
In WW2 the sherman firefly slapped 5 car engines together and called it a day
Multi-radial engine is what this is
At this rate you should just finish the tank
What about the V16 .
A rotating rotary engine might be another goofy project.
you have ended up at something like the Lycoming XR-7755 its a radial aircraft engine with 9 banks of 4 (36 cylinder) 127L 5000hp
7:43 "the whole engine's gonna be supported by.. um, faith.. uh" roflmao!! epic!

you successfully made a hybrid tank gj!

ok ok hear me out an engine but its an engine. GENIUOS!!!!!!!!!!
now its time to make an engine out of engines out of engines

0-100 in 3.2 seconds?... Nooo, 100-0 in 0.32 seconds!!!
you can make a car, that has 4 engines and those are the weels?
Make a bigger engine using those engines😂 who knows how much torque you could make
this is literally the chrysler multibank
Kan, it is the future if we use the Porsche's new 6 Stroke engine. Otherwise, u know! The world and the emissions. I mean we can do it but THE COMPANIES WON'T BE MAKING FUEL AT THAT POINT OTHER THAN PORSCHE WITH IT'S OWN SYNTHETIC FUEL ⛽
Is that supposed to be satire?
I'm pretty sure a British tank was like this. Just 5 car engines stuck to getter so they would have adequate torque.
try to build a Napier Deltic engine, think triangle with 2 opposing pistons on each side
Bro done making the Sherman firefly engine in a game 😂
"the engine's no good!"
"GET 5 CAR ENGINES AND PUT 'EM TOGETHA"
You should’ve added more pistons while you had the chance
Can you make a plane or any flying vehicle next ?
Yooo the engine from the sherman tanks , made it accidentally. 😂
It sounds like a ufo
You litraly made a sherman without the Hull or turret
Bro is slowly making a sherman tank lol
