    For the "Where do you come from? Yes/No" NPC, it's a very random reference to an apartment in Shimokitazawa named "High Town", which is the apartment suite where GameFreak employees stay overnight if they work too late. "High" is how you say "Yes" in Japanese, so they made this a joke, "Yes Town (High Town)? I never heard a place like that", but apparently the GameFreak devs are very familiar with that place called "High Town".
    This joke in the Hoenn games was confirmed by the GameFreak devs in the Game Freak 30th anniversary stream, if anyone was wondering where this explanation came from.

I've been meaning to check out your video ever since people brought it to my attention - I've just been very busy and easily distracted.
      Anyway, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it! That's a very nice point you make about these NPCs; there really is something a bit magical, for lack of a better word, about having NPCs hop from game to game. I think you might be referring to the Zoroark event those games have! If you bring at least one member of the legendary beasts from a certain event (the one where they were all shiny and had a unique move or two), the woman turns out to be a Zoroark in disguise and attacks you.
      That sounds slightly unhinged when I type it out, lol.

    • @crumpscrumbs
      @crumpscrumbs 4 месяца назад +7

      @@yukihoshikawa OMG THAT'S RIGHT! THERE WAS EVEN A MOVIE REFERENCING THAT!
      Jeez, that's insane! The Shiny Raikou, Entei, and Suicune were given out as an event, so does that mean this Zoroark is impossible to obtain now?

    • @yukihoshikawa
      @yukihoshikawa  4 месяца назад +8

      @@crumpscrumbs Theoretically, if someone still has the event Pokemon in one of the gen 5 games, they could trade it to a file that hasn't done the Zoroark event yet, and then have it trigger.
      But, I imagine most instances of that happening would involve non-legitimate event Pokemon, which... that's up to each person to determine if that counts or not. Cuz there's nothing stopping someone from hacking in the event Pokemon and triggering the event that way.

    • @malick9549

    My favourite thing about the Trader is that he allows access to otherwise unobtainable items. The Red Tent and Blue Tent for example are exclusive to Ruby and Sapphire respectively (in Emerald you get to choose one).
    But the most interesting case is the Regi dolls. They are exclusive to a Japanese e-Reader card. It can only be scanned to Japanese RS, which cannot mix records with English games. However, JP RS can mix with JP Emerald, which can mix records with EN Emerald. So to move a Regi doll to EN RS, you need to send it JP RS -> JP Emerald -> EN Emerald -> EN RS. And keep in mind that you can only trade one item per record mix, so to send all 3 dolls you would need to mix records at least 3 times per arrow (assuming both games have the Trader).

    I think I'd be alerting the authorities if some stranger was recording the number of times I went into a hot spring!
    I'll admit that I never knew about the apprentices, or that there were multi-battle options in Gen 3 at all! I think that the apprentices are a fun idea though, and mean that you're doing something with your champion status.

    • @yukihoshikawa
      @yukihoshikawa  4 месяца назад +9

      That's a good point that you bring up, about your Champion status meaning something!
      I mentioned it to another commenter, but I think it'd be neat if some ROM hack expanded upon the idea of the apprentice, especially since... I don't think they added the Battle Tower in the second wave of Scarlet/Violet DLC, although I'm not sure since, admittedly, I haven't played it yet.

    How about the very weird, nonsensical things that NPC's say at 'Trainer Hill' in Pokemon Emerald?

    • @yukihoshikawa
      @yukihoshikawa  4 месяца назад

      I think those NPCs use words/phrases from the easy chat system, just like trainers in the Battle Frontier, right? I know in the Battle Frontier, at least, there are definitely a few of them that say some pretty weird stuff!

    At 7:00, didn’t GSC have a game mechanic with Magikarp? I swear it did, but it’s probably a fever dream.

    • @ShapelessMonstrosity
      @ShapelessMonstrosity 4 месяца назад

      It did! It was bugged in like 3 different ways (e.g. Magikarp in the Lake of Rage were meant to be bigger than usual, but instead Magikarp almost everywhere else are bigger). But the mechanic did function! In HGSS, it works in the same way as in Gen 3.

    I'm not crying plagiarism here, but the presentation and title of this video is maybe a bit too close to Droomish's for comfort.
    Trying to be constructive here, I promise.

    • @yukihoshikawa
      @yukihoshikawa  4 месяца назад +3

      I promise any similarities are unintentional and purely coincidental. I have watched a video by Droomish, but only once; that's not enough exposure for me to deliberately rip someone off.
      I know you said "I'm not crying plagiarism here", but just to be clear: I'm very much against plagiarism - I've even spoken out against it in prior videos.
      I'm sorry that this video left that impression on you.

    • @yukihoshikawa
      @yukihoshikawa  4 месяца назад +3

      I just took a look at Droomish's channel, and I see the video you're talking about. I never saw that video or its title - I saw one about the Battle Palace, and that's it.
      Still, that's an unfortunate coincidence.

    • @Friedbread28
      @Friedbread28 4 месяца назад +2

      The title is soooo similar, it may be a case of subconscious appropriation. It's not like you necessarily did anything wrong but a good idea to sometimes do a quick search of new ideas to see what's already out there and maybe even get inspiration and give a shout-out to avoid the appearance of plagiarism, even unintentional! Looks like you both decided to feature different NPCs which is just a testament to how deep the gen 3 world goes. :)
