- The NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs are in full swing!
Check out this incredible 5-axis machining of a hockey goalie mask on a @Grobgroup G550 universal machining center.
This amazing part was made in two setups, each based on the 5th Axis RockLock Workholding System. The heaviest roughing toolpaths were made easy, thanks to Mastercam’s OptiRough Toolpath and Emuge Franken’s lineup of aluminum-specialized cutting tools. The intricate multiaxis finishing was handled by Mastercam’s Unified Multiaxis Toolpath, with VERICUT Software by CGTech machine simulation and the reliable code created through the Postability post processor ensuring smooth operation throughout.
Overall, this part required 747 Mastercam toolpaths, and 85 hours of machine time. We think the end result is worthy of the Stanley Cup!

Bloody amazing! 😎😎👍👍👏👏
Thanks for watching! If you haven't already, be sure to check out our in-depth programming videos detailing how we completed the project!
Good job viva mastercam
Thank you for your kind words!
WOW!
Awesome
So what was the full cycle time in the end , I d be very interested just in case I get an inquiry through the business 😉
The project was over 80 hours and features over 700 toolpaths!
As a machinist, the pucker factor as the tool goes in through the bars of the cage must have been over 9000. I would hate to crash the machine over what is essentially an expensive paperweight 😮
i know if that job came into my shop my boss would expect it programmed in 8 hours
nice
What's the weight of the helmet?
Thanks for reaching out! The weight of the helmet is 15 lbs
Excellent work, impressive machining. How much machining time? How much programming time?
Machine time is around 80 hours, and programming time was many hundreds of hours :)
program in mastercam ?. can you share program file !
We are not sharing this particular program file, however we will be releasing a step-by-step in-depth RUclips series detailing how the part was made1
