@@GraveyardLoon same, i made that mistake, it dyes mostly cotton stuff and has a hard time with polyester, acrylic, and other synthetic fiber. I can give you some simple instructions if you want to read that below, If not no worries, trial and error XD SO I personally put the synthetic dye right on the fabric im dying with a paintbrush (like the black foam ones) I also add some Rit ColorStay Dye fixative (its a white bottle with a purple line on top, i put a generous amount in it.) I do this by mixing some of the dye and the fixative in a small cup (like 75% dye and 25% fixative) while thats happening im boiling some water and have a steam basket ready. I know a few people have mentioned that you haven't quite used the right dye but just in case you do want to try again I thought I'd give some advice/tips. I'm a costumer by trade and use synethic dyes often - given that doll hair is usually synthetic fibres this SHOULD help with it: 1) Some commenters are saying you used the wrong dye entirely but thats not entirely true - you did use this dye incorrectly. That said a synthetic specific dye will always give best results. 2) With Rit synthetic dyes you usually need to use at least half if not the full bottle - you did not have nearly enough dye in the bath to dye her hair. Note it WILL dye her face too if you submerge her if you dont use some kind of barrier (You could try vaseline) 3) Vinegar is a good fixative but you need a lot of it, and it can be helpful to put a heap of salt in too 4) While there are cold water dyes, Rit is not one of them (most dyes arent). I see some other commenters saying boiling water but ideally you want the water at a simmer. Boiling water risks melting the synthetic fibres. Rit (and most other dyes aside from purpose cold-water dyes) require hot water to penetrate into the fibres and also to fix the colour. If its of any interest, the reason this didn't work is because you are treating dye like paint in that you are thinking of it as a colour that is applied on the surface and 'dries.' Dye undergoes a chemical reaction within the process and heat is a vital part of that reaction. Dont forget to rinse out excess once you're done. Please dont feel bad, nobody is born knowing this stuff and the vast majority of people don't know how complicated the dye process is.
but also, this head is meant for students in cosmetology school, I had a few of them ....they are actually meant for hair dye, so students can learn. They are made of real hair so students can learn how to really use hair dye, bleach, and also how the hair lands when its cut. You can not get that with synthetic hair. Its also so you can use hot tools without burning the hair. I know some of the cheaper ones use horse hair and other animals, but you can usually feel the difference and they still take hair dye, just might come out blotchy. But the ones used in all the heads we had were made of human hair. You def can not learn how to dye or cut fake hair. Id bet if he used a decent brand from Sallys (hes not going to be able to get the good brand name ones without a license, so Sallys is the next best thing) like Wella or their Ion brand or even Loreal is ok, it would have come out just fine. We dyed and bleached/highlights, etc our over and over and over again, then we'd cut it into different styles to practice. You can get really creative with the heads bc if you mess up or it looks stupid, lol, you can just start over, lol!
Haha this was great! Might i recommend a dye that has worked for me in the past for my custom dolls... It's called "splat" you can find it at walmart or on amazon. This dye works great on doll hair because it stains really well. I've used it multiple times & also made VERY old video on it that explains how i use it on dolls. You just need to apply it and let it sit & stain the dolls hair. Unfortunately yellow blonde hair will almost always turn green if the blue dye isn't dark enough... But other shades seem to work well :)
Hi doll collector here ! For next time in a smaller project, alcohol marker is so good for that (cheap one, no expensive copics). The warmth fix colors too (but not to much for synthetic because melting things you know...). But Anastasia/Coraline is perfect, good job !
You Rit dye for Synthetics, it also works for wigs. You'll have a lot more luck! Also just buy a pot for dying since you need the water to be wildly hot, however mask the dolls face unless you want the plastic to be dyed as well.
You could just get a wig. I was Coraline for Halloween last year and I remember finding some really cheap blue wigs that worked very well. Also I love your videos ❤️
@@GraveyardLoon LMAO of all the people, I am the least sexiest person to ask. I mean. I can still make suggestions, but I can't guarantee they'll be sexy and would most likely just be scary 😂
Doesn’t rit dye need to be hot for it to work? And there should be a version of it for synthetic fibers too. But it does dye the doll skin too. 🤷♀️ When you first cut the hair I thought you’re going to name her Karen. 😂 But I do prefer Anastasia tbh. And she does look like a grown up version of Coraline. Good work! 👍🏼☺️
I saw the head emerge from under the table and I immidiately burst in an uncontrollable laugh... It's gonna be a great video once again. I really like you're video.
Because this was a manikin, real hair color would have worked just fine. That’s what it’s made for. Just letting you know for any future manakin makeovers! Love your videos! 😊♥️

I typically see doll costumizers using colored, acrylic yarn brushed out for a different color hair. I'd recommend watching Hextian video on RUclips. It's easy to do, I added pink and purple "highlights" on Barbie blonde hair. (I tried paint and marker first unsuccessfully)
One way I've had good luck with dying synthetic hair is with cheap alcohol markers. You can get pretty neat nuances in the hair by dabbing some rubbing alcohol on it after you painted some streaks. The darker/more saturated markers covers more with the rubbing alcohol trick.
This gives me flashbacks to cosmetology school when I completely destroyed a mannequin head for a Halloween competition and turned it into a zombie, I drilled holes into its head and eye socket and stuck a screwdriver in so it look stabbed. I didn’t win 😭

I would recommend the same process to dying synthetic wigs for the hair. Rubbing alcohol and sharpie. Cut out the color part of a sharpie and let it sit in rubbing alcohol for 30 mins, and use a spray bottle and a cotton ball to put it on the hair.

You need the synthetic Ritt dye! It’s likely plastic hair on the doll so the regular stuff wont dye it as well as it’s made for natural fibre
