Joan Fontaine was just so delightful .
Amazing hand writing of Joan!
Great great great and unforgettable Joan Fontaine!
She's such an adorable woman, she seems very warm and kind. In some ways she reminds me of Kate Winslet.
I love this woman! Sugh a talented actress.
I saw joan for the first time on tv in a film called rebecca, her beauty blew me away, just had to look her up, amazing
GREAT film!
Her sister Olivia is still Living at 99, Joan died in 2013 aged 96. Two very fine Actresses.
shes living a centenarian(100) now
I did look it up a couple of weeks ago, just to see if she made her century.
she's now living there in paris i think she has a good health..
I'm 15...and my friends get a kick outta me watching 50s/60s gameshows.
Gah, fantabulous! I'm glad there is still time to tell her how wonderful she is.
What a cute video! She seems like such a sweetie, and she's done a wonderful job in so many films. Thank you very much for posting this! :)
Happy Belated Birthday Joan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Hope you had a great time. You're one of my favorite actresses and I love your beautiful voice. One of the most beautiful voices of all time. Thank you for the memories you have given us in Rebecca, Suspicion, Jane Eyre, Letter to an Unknown Woman, September Affair and Serenade.
I love Joan and Olivia, it's not necessary to choose between the two. Both excellent actresses in their own right. What a shame they will take their feud to the grave.
Joan is so charming here. Anyone read her book 'No Bed Of Roses'?
No, is it good?
Star quality, no doubt about it...you're born with that charisma, you don't acquire it.
this is my favorite panel group-Bennett, Arlene, Dorothy, and Steve.
I 💙 me some Joan Fontaine
I adore Joan Fontaine.
Today would have been Joan's 105th Birthday ...
October 22 1917
I always thought that Joan and Olivia didn't look alike until I saw them in a Picture together ... Then you see all the similarities ...
Although Joan had a long Career in Film and TV ... She was Unbeatable as an Ingenue ... I wish that She had made 100 Movies between 1937 and 1947 ...
She was Very good throughout her Entire Career ... but there was something Very Very Special about her during those years ... You were Drawn Right In ...
I have Rebecca (1940) tied with two other movies for the Best Movie Ever ... And Suspicion (1941) is in my Top Five Movies ... In these two movies she costarred with two of Hollywood's biggest stars, Laurence Olivier (May 22 1907 - July 11 1989) and Cary Grant (January 18 1904 - November 29 1986) ... Yet both Movies were Hers ... Olivier and Grant were Subordinate Players ... How unusual (!) ...
A few of her Biggest Movies are listed below:
The Man Who Found Himself (1937) **
Damsel In Distress (1937) *
Maid's Night Out (1938) **
The Women (1939)
Gunga Din (1939)
Rebecca (1940) **
Suspicion (1941) **
The Constant Nymph (1943) *
Jane Eyre (1943) **
Ivy (1947) *
Born To Be Bad (1950) *
Ivanhoe (1952) *
The Bigamist (1953) *
Beyond A Reasonable Doubt (1956) *
Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea (1961)
The Witches (1966) *
* Personal Favorite
** Personal Favorite +
So Happy Birthday Joan Fontaine ... You Live Forever (!) ...
Great Video (!) ... Thanks for posting (!) ...

One of my favorite actresses. :)
I hope she and Olivia can finally get along!!!R.I.P!!!
Maybe death will be the final reconciliation.
Let's hope so!!!
Can you believe Joan turned 91 last month!!
Happy Birthday, Ms. Fontaine!
Great clip, thanks for posting!
she's adorable
The movie she is plugging, The Bigamist, is on RUclips in full and it is excellent!
Directed by Ida Lupino the film really grows on you. I can't stop watching it.
Joan's smile is identical to Livvie's.
rip joan
There is a Royal Doulton figurine named Rebecca that really to me is a replica of Joans face. it's very stunning. I bought it so i've seen it for real and it's Joan.
Lovely lady - so classy! Great Actress!
I know everyone always asks why there are so many repeats but do remember that this is before the days where everyone on TV had earpieces and could hear each other perfectly. I imagine the studio was a pretty loud one what with the panelists, crew and a live audience.
LOL it seemed to me she was upset at talking about Olivia!! I was totally laughing there. They were such rivals.
Joan is my favorite of the two sisters. I just wish she had presented herself here wearing a more dignified gown.
I'm brokenhearted.
Wow, how awesome, thanks for sharing this
Only actress to ever win an Oscar for Best Actress in a Hitchcock film.
They didn't tell the audience she was born in Japan. During WWII her sister made it clear she was 'American' actress Olivia De Haviland even though she was also a British subject. Really don't know why, did she think because she was born in Tokyo made her an enemy? The De Havilland aircraft plant in Toronto was pushing out the Lancaster bomber. Both actresses had been invited on several occasions to come up and christen new aircraft. Joan was a license pilot.
Ida Lupino is awesome in her own right. Love her!
It was on this Day ... 104 years ago that Joan Fontaine came into this world ...
Joan Fontaine:

They were born in Japan, love them both and Joan was discover bringing lunch to Olivia @ the Studio
same here and I'm obsessed with this era!!
Yes sir MA'AM! xb
I like Dorothy
calalilygirl me too!
To bad that the sisters Joan and Olivia Don't speak to each other. Pretty soon one will be gone and it'll be too late to make PEACE. 07/31/2013
Dorothy even removes a hair from her mouth in a classy way at 4:49.
Joan and Olivia were born in Japan.
I love the ladies' blindfolds
4.14. It says everything about relationship between Olivia and Joan
They were born in Japan I believe.
-Lily♥
@VTMCompany And yet Olivia seems to have been more famous and popular. I love Joan too. I think she is more attractive.
they were both pretty but Joan got more glamorous the older she got whereas Olivia looked matronly from her 40's on & practically old in her 50's
So am I! Sad that Joan didn't respond to you though. I hear she was very wise in her investments and is still really rich
Bellport says hello to Joan :)
So is her sister, Olivia deHavilland, who was born in 1916. They haven't spoken to each other in over thirty years.
She and her sister were both born in Tokyo. It would have been funny if someone had guessed are you Miyoshi Umeki, who was also a guest once.
I agree that she wasn't pretty as Olivia but both of them were excellent actresses :D
It's no secret Joan Fontaine & her sister, Olivia DeHavilland, had been estranged for years.
But DeHavilland was one of the few, close female friends of the late Bette Davis, who, as many know, had her own feud with a "Joan" going on for years--her co-star in "What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?," Joan Crawford (though the feud was overblown, which Davis enhanced over the years for entertainment purposes).
Miss Fontaine was born in Tokyo. When they narrowed down were she was born, it had to be her or her sister.
She does.
She has a lovely ucipital mapilary.
Not at all, she sighed like that because Dorothy was on the right track and about to guess it.
@Shepherdess It does, but its pretty. She probably like it b/c it was soft, almost satiny.
Yes, they were :)
Agreed
There are now two up -- just search! :)
I've never seen Joan more attractive more appealing or more unaffected. She was great at portraying shy, little brown wrens who wouldn' say boo to a goose, AND brittle, mannered, super-sophisticated, crafty, manipulative Bee-EyeTea-Cee-Aitche -- but not much in between those two extremes. I hope this delightful appearance is what she was truly like in real life, but one can never be sure. I've always been troubled by the rift between Joan and her sister Olivia de Havilland, and wonder what could have caused it? I believe Olivia was capable of a much broader range of characterization. Could that have been it?
+Hyramess Hiram's I agree with you wholeheartedly that Olivia was the better actress. Far more depth and range in my opinion. Joan tended to play the same role in so many films - the shy, submissive naif and easily victimized sort (Rebecca, Suspicion, Jane Eyre, Letter from an Unknown Woman), whereas Olivia could play characters as diverse as Melanie in GWTW and the young schizophrenic in The Snake Pit. I think a lot of the sisters' rivalry may have been encouraged by their mother who may have (wittingly or not) played the two off against each other, leading to a lot of mutual jealousy and competition for their mother's approval (the classic sibling rivalry). Sad that they never reconciled.
Well, Joan Fontaine also played some different sorts of roles in the movies, too - such as "Kiss The Blood Off My Hands," "September Affair," "Decameron Nights," "Island In The Sun," "A Certain Smile," "Ivanhoe," "Flight To Tangier," "Darling, How Could You!", "Born To Be Bad," "Until They Sail," "Tender Is The Night" - and, of course, the movie which was then running on Broadway, "The Bigamist," an unsuccessful attempt to do with drama what "The Captain's Paradise" doesn't do with droll British comedy.
My brother has been a waiter for many years at a restaurant in the Carmel, CA. area and Joan Fontaine used to be a frequent dinner guest at the place as well as a few other celebrities and my brother said Joan Fontaine was the nicest of them all...Very gracious, generous, good natured and kind and I know she was an animal lover and advocate.. she had a separate limo just for her dogs.. from things I've read/heard of the two sisters was that Joan Fontaine was the nicer one of the two...
Joan was more beautiful
3:30 Lmaoooo she was born in Japan
Thanks, YouT :-)
found out she is born 1917 and is still alive
I wrote to Olivia recently (she was 95!) and she wrote back with a letter and an autographed picture!! Then I wrote to Joan, but I got a small card stating that due to volume she didn't reply... :(
I actually was wondering why the men were standing up at the end! Ya don't see that nowadays! :)
They always stood to shake hands with the contestant, whether "ordinary person" or Mystery Guest - once the "Walk of Shame" for "ordinary Joe/ordinary Jane" contestants was done away with once and for all in the mid-1950s.
@lorrainewands They're sisters!!
@1983CUEVAS Wow, never knew that. Was there some sort of jealousy? I also heard Joan may have criticized one or both of the parents and Olivia stood by the parent/parents??
Ah, it had to be that comment the last lady said that caused the grudge between Joan and Olivia. She said Joan was the more fairer of the two.Just kidding but still sad they haven't spoken for decades
It is too bad, but it's their choice, a choice they made many times, but one which was finalized when they were both way too old to know better. They seem fine with it...
They are both in their 90's they should bury the hatchet, before they reach 1001
@rickram1961 Wonder what the heck happened?
have u hadsister in showbizness?
yes
now get zsa zsa gabor
lol
@MsSarjen oh my... thats an insult to an amazing women. please dont bring JF down like that...
I wonder what caused their feud (Joan and Olivia). jealosy? Too many actresses in the family?
Does anyone know if there is a WML with Oliva?
Olivia de Havilland was the Mystery Guest on WML? four times:
25 May 1958
4 March 1962
9 August 1964
8 August 1965
I've always wondered why they so often couldn't hear each other. They wasted so much time asking for repoeats. was it the studio accoustics or something?
Can anyone explain?
It was, indeed, studio acoustics - which were always atrocious throughout the show's run on CBS.
Btw, when Dorothy asked if she were the fairer of the two sisters, was she referring to hair color or beauty?
Hair color.
Oh yes, hair color for sure. Joan even touched her hair right after hearing the question. The beauty interpretation would have been a very tactless question to ask!
Kilgallon never seems to wear her mask correctly , there's always a gap.
There's absolutely no resemblence between her and her sister.
She should've written her real name, Joan de Havilland.
