The older I get, the more I want one of these - I have been playing on guitars with capos and on a Mann 4 string for a few years now. This is the best of both worlds in one package.

This instrument is the 5 course mandocello instead or more exactly called octave mandoliola/mandolinola (mandolin and mandola hybrid).

Love it man. You have some nice chops on Scrapple from the Apple as well. Great instrument.

I'm not the first to mention it here - please make a model that combines the range of mandocello with octave mandolin! CGDAE

the absolute dream would be a 6 string (might need fanned frets) CGDAEB

Hello Jonathan, roughly how much would a mandolin just like this one cost a customer?

I prefer a traditional 8-string mandolin, but this is quite a good instrument you made here!

It sounds like a regular Electric Guitar.

Honestly, it sounds like a guitar. Not like a mandolin

Not only is this mess not solid, it's not a mandolin either. It's some five string freak that you've mislabelled mandolin. Mandolins have 8 strings. Count 'em! Eight strings! Get that turkey out of here.

I think your suggestions about a name that decribes the instrument the bast are outstanding! Or I will if you have some to make... unfortunately for your piece of mind, due to Tiny Grimes and Bigsby and Joe Maphis and now "String Cheese Incident" (?) and... stuff, the term "octave mandolin" is about the best existing terminology that the largest majority of people would use to describe this. I mean, the Mann has beautiful instruments to sell, leaving the CRUCIAL TASK of nomenclature up to underling like you... and me. I mean, he could call it "peanut butter" but NObody would wanna make a sandwich outta that thing.
I'm currently on a quest for a... 5-string, solidbody with about a 19" scale to be tuned in fifths, and I've been searching under "peanut butter" for years now, Ill be DAMNED if anybody's making them.
