- American sitcom Blossom premiered as a mid-season replacement on NBC on January 3, 1991 and aired for 5 seasons ending on May 22, 1995. The show was created by television writer and producer Don Reo and produced by his Impact Zone Productions and Witt/Thomas Productions in association with Touchstone Television. In the summer of 1989, Don went to Florida to celebrate the 50th birthday of Dion DiMucci, lead singer of ‘50s vocal group Dion and the Belmonts. While there he noticed how Dion and his wife interacted with their 3 daughters. Their behavior was normal, except that the dad in this scenario was a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It gave him the beginnings of an idea for a show, a family sitcom, in which the father would be hipper than the ones who were then on TV. Don was also inspired by J. D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye and wanted to create a series about a wise-beyond-his-years, introspective teenage boy modelled closely after protagonist Holden Caulfield. He first pitched the project to NBC with the working title Richie. A character named Blossom was in the script too, as the younger sister. While the network liked the screenplay, an executive, a woman, suggested that Blossom become the lead character due to the overabundance of coming-of-age stories with boys.

Same thing with Charlie Sheen and Fran Drescher. They always use their real life names on their sitcoms. For Charlie it is Spin City,Two and A Half Men,and Anger Management. For Fran it is The Nanny,Living With Fran,and Happily Divorced.
I'm so glad someone noticed that. I think his brother Matthew Lawrence did the same when he was a kid. Gimme A Break was one of those shows.

It started on Gimme A Break because apparently they were calling him by the name of the character was supposed to be and he never came in at the right time, so they just changed it to Joey.
The fact that she was dancing to “My Prerogative” is hilarious and I’m seriously contemplating editing her with that song! 🤭 I will take the copyright risk!
It certainly makes sense considering the moves. I always thought it was hilarious that she was dancing like that to that song.

Wait so Karyn Parsons aka Hilary Banks guest starred on both Blossom and Out All Night guest starring as her character from Fresh Prince? To me Out All Night shoulda been a spin off of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air at least since Will Smith and Patti Labelle are from Philadelphia,both shows were set in L.A.
@@ryanmartin73yes, & he was also on Full House. All three shows has the same creators/producers, had similar themes & even had the same person singing their respective theme songs, in addition to them all airing on ABC.
@@larrymarshall8900 They were all on NBC. It was very common for networks to do crossover episodes, even if the shows weren’t spin-offs of each other. ABC, CBS, FOX, WB & UPN have all had crossover nights for their programs.

In my opinionation, this show was great.
Ted playing Mayim's dad on "Call me Kat" likely brought back memories for Blossom Fans as did the episode with Jenna and Joey's cameo and at the end when everyone breaks the fourth wall and Mayim gets to dance in her flower hat.
Until another cast member of The Big Bang Theory Mayim plays a nerdy Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler.
All of us late 70s to mid 80s girls had at least one Blossom hat as a young girl/teen 😂 this was my show and I had the biggest crush on Joey Lawrence and he still looks good.
Yas. Joey Lawrence was a hottie but I liked him better with shorter hair in the late 90s/early 00s and also when he cut it all off after 2006.

Now I Totally Forgotten This For Decades But Blossom was one of many 1990's TV Shows I didn't want to watch back then but I was younger back then and I was all about The Fox Network The Simpsons, Cops, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and Beverly Hills 90210 so Blossom wasn't on my radar

I will never forget Blossom's show being the first time I heard the word "virgin" - I was 7 and I asked my mom what that meant and she said: "you'll learn about that when you're older" 😅😅😅😅
When I was a tween, my grade school cousin asked me what virginity meant when we watched the episode about Six considering having sex. I wasn't sure I was allowed to answer that!
That's wild: I guess that episode opened a lot of discussions about the topics Blossom covered!

I remember Blossom! I never ever forgot the theme song, "my opinionation"! As everyone knows, Jenna would later go on to co-star alongside Monique & Countess Vaughn, in the Parkers, & Mayim would later have a career revival, in the Big Bang Theory. I remember James Madio appearing in one episode, several years before he would turn up in USA High, as Laz. Also, the shows many dream sequences, one of which featured Mayim meeting ALF! Oh, Juicy Pop, would you consider doing a video on ALF? Thanks for covering Blossom, though, as it's a highly underrated show, from my childhood, that rarely gets acknowledged or discussed, nowadays.

I so loved Blossom I could relate b/c she was quirky like me and her flower hats so helped when I was diagnosed with a brain tumor @ 11. Wigs in the 90's esp for black young girls were beyond horrible. But my parents took me to the store and I got every color and style possible and wore them until I grew my hair for braids thanks BLOSSOM. So this new term "bucket hat" is irritating show some respeck it's the Blossom Hat 😂
