MERV 11 and 13 1 inch filters in a lot of cases are too restrictive - and even if usable in your system, you would have to replace frequently like every 60 days. The static pressure drop is quite a bit after 30-60 days of use. The initial static pressure drop of new filters is already quite high. MERV 8 might be a good balance. For my system I have to use MERV 4 to 7 filters. Granted if someone got a newer system, hopefully they went with a 4 or 5 inch filter media system for which a MERV 11 filter would be great and/or upgraded duct work to handle better air flow. Some of the best 4-5 inch filters (MERV 11 and 13) with very low static pressure drops are from Aprilaire.
