    You know, when people started bashing Taylor about the whole masters things, and saying she should’ve read the fine print, it’s kinda insidious to think a 15-year old kid is truly going to understand the legal ramifications of a multi year contract that probably needed to go through her parents as well as she was literally still a kid.

    • @snikrdoodls14
      @snikrdoodls14 3 года назад +139

      Or the fact that it was a legally binding contract with a minor, and no-one seems to be questioning that.

    • @jericsuson5250
      @jericsuson5250 3 года назад +55

      From I think, 10 yrs old to 15 yrs old she was literally going from 1 record label to another trying to get signed handing out sample songs on her cd. 🥲.
      On the road trying to get interviewed on a radio to tv stations. (Happened to Jimmy Kimmel show, she got denied of course. There's a video about it if you ever wanna watch it.)
      Then she got this offer from a record label that didn't even an office yet, no building, no nothing, she's literally their first artist.
      She finally got the dream she always wanted. Someone who believed in her. I WOULD SIGN THAT DEAL IN A HEARTBEAT.

      There is also a clear power imbalance too. This young wanna be musician wants to be famous and this guy who knows the business offer them that and of course they're gonna accept

    • @sailingnstuff
      @sailingnstuff 3 года назад +19

      Of course she nor anyone else didn't know that she would become so prolific and successful at the time. There are probably thousands of others that signed similar deals and were one hit wonders or just faded away.

    • @nilay_nur
      @nilay_nur 2 года назад +22

      I think the fact that she had a very close relationship with Scott also played a part in her not questioning the contract, she probably trusted him blindly and it never crossed her mind that a label she helped build would screw her over

    As much as everyone in the comments is talking about Taylor and her brilliance (with good reason), I want to take a moment to talk you about you. "...hyper-aware of the power imbalance between really young women and the men WHO CHOOSE to date them." I really sincerely thank you for phrasing that this way. So many times it's the young women/men that get chastised for dating someone older than them. They wouldn't even be in a relationship if the more experienced adult hadn't agreed to it and moved things forward. It's easy to blame the younger person because they're naive, but no one ever questions the older partner. Why treat someone like dirt when you made the choice to date them? You should know that being with someone much younger than you, ESPECIALLY someone fresh out of their teens, is not the same as being with someone who has been through more adult situations like you have. But not many people view the narrative this way.

    i completely agree with what you said about fifteen, listening to 31 year old taylor sing it just gives this rush of nostalgia like when you hear your parents tell a story from their childhood. it's definitely my favorite re-recording so far. i have a feeling that long live re-recording will also have the same euphoric feeling with how much she's been through since that song is released.

    I feel that the final album of her first six that she will re release will be her debut self titled album. The idea behind the re-recordings is ownership. finally being able to fully own her words, her emotions and her voice. Saving her Debut for last will be Taylor Swift finally being able to reclaim and own her own name and in a sense her whole self. Because if you look at it technically right now she doesn't own her name the trash human Scooter Braun owns it. The final step on her journey of reclamation will be to fully own her own name after reclaiming all of the other parts of her life and story. In Fearless TV she has reclaimed her youth and innocence and adolescence, in Red TV she has reclaimed her soul and her ability to feel and be heartbroken, with 1989 she will be able to reclaim her womanhood and sense of self, with Speak Now she will fully be reclaiming her voice because that was the only album where she was the sole writer and had 0 collabs, with Reputation she will be able to reclaim well her reputation and then the final step will be to release debut and fully reclaim her name and personhood and it will be a full circle moment to end with a beginning. I know many people have theories of the remaining order of the albums but this is mine. it makes the most sense to do it this way. The next re-release will be 1989.

    22 hits different when you hear the 10 minute all too well. “It’s supposed to be fun turning 21” turns to “I don’t know about you but I’m feeling 22” like 22 was the magic number she needed to get over the excruciating heartbreak that happened when she was 21

    Awesome video! I didnt know Jojo rerecorded too, so cool of her. I dont think people realize yet how massive of a shift it is for Taylor and other big artists to stand up for themselves and the ownership of their art like this. The artist formerly known as Prince is of course the pioneer in this but now that record labels are becoming increasingly obsolete, the big greedy ones who take advantage of artists are finally going to get left behind. Taylor is shining a light on how predatory record deals can be and setting an example for everyone to see that she isnt going to put up with it so that other artists can see that they dont have to either. Honestly, its some of the most punk rock shit ever.

    I would like to compliment your work, Terrance. I could say you're talented in explaining exactly what you want to say, conveying each thought and feeling. Capturing the emotions felt as you and your viewers watch the video. But that may be an inconsiderate assumption as well, depending on how you see yourself as. Because, talent may not be the case for everyone, it may be the constant trial and error, history of hard work and confusion- a process- that can make up someone's beautiful work such as yours, Terrance. So instead I will say, that the work you have made and put up to the public, this video, and all the rest of your videos, are very well put together. Not just in your transitions to the next topic, but your way of speech, how you explain and describe things, editing, sources such as Taylor's interview shown in your video here that are used to connect back to as you continue to speak. All these sorts of things. As time continues people will continue to be able to see your work and absolutely enjoy and admire how touching and beautiful it is. This was all because of your own ideas, imagination, and individual uniqueness. You're doing well, the reason is not just because of all the things I have already said, but also because you're working hard for something you want to do. Continue on with what you wish to do, people will come on here and love your work and also your way of thoughts, like your current Subscribers.
    Now that I have said that, I will continue on to my thoughts on the video. The current stage of my life has brought me to be in a constant process of learning. Ideas after another confuses me as my young mind does not have enough life experience to properly be able to have the capability of handling situations that I face. Struggles are never ending and I am initiating the change of my life. Because of all this, it has left me to often be tired and unwilling to continue to try. I remind myself of philosophies I believe in to continue to try as I know that everything that happens to me can bring me a lesson from the experience. But even so, as it is my first time following what I want to do in my life, I am forgetful of my original goals.
    This all reminds me of what Terrance said about Taylor. In her earlier years of her career she made mistakes that caused her hardship, her inexperience in life also dictated her actions. Though the mistakes she created and hardships she had to face seem frightening, she continued to live leading her to her 31st year of her life. She changes the things she wishes to change and looks back on her life and earlier years of her career, with a soft smile, a smile that forgives and loves her past self. It is all wonderful to imagine, to hear that a person's life, Taylor's in this case, is being softly smiled at by the very person who lives it.
    When watching this video and connecting it to my life, along with other people who try and put effort into their lives, it makes me smile. My body and mind relaxes knowing that just like Taylor, we all go through lives of our known. With each life having its own uniqueness and history. It is appreciation that I have, as I believe in the efforts one make. As long as one too thinks that they can continue on, that is all that matters.
    There will be a day.

    Listening to “nothing new” from RED is so amazing because you get to see how scared she was of being replaced by someone else. Someone new. But the song was never released when it was actually her feelings, but now as a nostalgic way of looking back and knowing she had nothing to worry about at all because she’s just as relevant today, actually even more so.

      I'm pretty sure she still feels that way deep down. She's at the height of her career now, and she probably knows that she will fall out of the public's graces soon enough. It's happened before for her, it will happen again. And unfortunately, she's now getting to the age where she won't be regarded as worthy in pop business. It's shit. But it's true. Madonna was the only one who was still revered in her 50s, but now she's also laughed at.

    This was a very beautifully done video just like the first part. You perfectly captured how special her journey is and why I personally connect to the stories she's telling. After all she's done, there are still some people discrediting her talent by looking at the surface level of what the media says about her - never bothering to learn about the real story, or her talent underneath and how she is able to replicate such raw emotions in her work. So seeing videos like the ones you've made is really comforting. Thank you for doing this. 👏💖

The remarkable insight throughout the first video is here again. I’m kind of emotionally wrung out from the other comment, though I don’t know if you’ll ever see it. I was 13 years old when her debut album was released, I have been with her ever since, as she grew I grew, as her heart was broken so was mine, our lives coincided in so many ways, sometimes it felt like she had picked up my own diary and wrote from that.
    From then to now Taylor has been such an influential part of my life and for this I am so thankful for.
    Fearless taught this 15 year old girl many important lessons, Red came as I experienced my first real heartbreak, 1989 was released the year my daughter was born and the happiest moments, reputation came as I left my ex-husband and my own reputation was being dragged through the mud, and finally Lover was there as I found someone who truly loved me for me. Thank you Taylor, for everything.

    I hope Taylor sees your video about her, and you get to meet her in person. You are as wonderful a storyteller as she is, and I would love for you to experience meeting her in real life. All the best to you.

    Taylor, who wrote All Too Well, reminds me of Annie Ernaux, who writes her personal stories in her novels. Taylor's "pop star" image shines so bright that people cannot truly see her artistic aspect sometimes. Her songs are literature. Her music is culture. Her art should be appreciated at much a higher level.

    I have a feeling that she will keep Better Than Revenge as it is now, but will assure us that she have changed since then, and doesnt have the same view. Its like owning up to your mistakes when your fans found your old messed tweets.

    I always enjoyed listening to her music but folkmore and evermore made me a swiftie. i‘m fascinated with her work and i find myself searching up her old MVs and I started to listen to her whole discography. Seeing videos like this one in my recommendation are a really good guidance. thank you! let’s get into the RED season. 🧡🧣🍂🍁💋

      Same! Up until recently thr name Taylor Swift made me go like 🤷🏻‍♀️, but it took folklore and Evermore for me to LISTEN to her and I’ve been obsessed ever since. Swifties were right all along 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

    22 hits different when you hear the 10 minute all too well. “It’s supposed to be fun turning 21” turns to “I don’t know about you but I’m feeling 22” like 22 was the magic number she needed to get over the excruciating heartbreak that happened when she was 21
