I love sketching in ballpoint pen! It used to be super intimidating but now I’ve found it the most relaxing thing for me. There’s something freeing about how the ink flows and not being able to use an eraser. Love that we’re getting to see your sketches!
Funny how much I needed this video. And from you also. To be honest, I’m a self taught artist who fell in love with gouache 6 months ago and then I found you. Someone who has an AMAZING gouache technique. I’ve watched your videos and envied you. I knoooooooo. You never know the full story of someone’s journey…. blah blah blah but the green eyed monster ate me for breakfast anyway. I have stopped sharing as much on social media too as my skills and tastes progress. I’m more perfectionistic. So-thank your for being real about being an artist. I wanna be on your team!
I’m so glad my video spoke to you!! 💛 it can be so incredibly difficult not to compare ourselves to the artists we see on social media, but it’s so important to remember that we are each a UNIQUE artist. 💛
Omg I’m so grateful I stumbled onto your channel. I am new to art. I’m 42 and didn’t even realize I could draw. This has opened up a childlike energy in me that I didn’t even know I needed. Thank you for your honesty and for sharing. So many things you mentioned resonated and I’m truly grateful 🙏🏼
this came in so clutch for me, i was just crying yesterday about how much my perspective skills had fallen off the wagon. i took an art break for like 2 years and my skills are so bad, a simple perspective cube is now so challenging. i am only now seeing small glimpses of my old activity, but its been a journey lord.
It can be SO FRUSTRATING when we regress in our art skills. 😔 Just remember it happens to every artist! We all have ebbs and flows in our creative skills 💛
I really love how your took parts from the first sitting girl and made an even more interesting version for the second sitting girl drawing. What a fun little nook
Thank you so much!! Oftentimes I get stuck with a particular pose and don’t explore it any further, but these sketches reminded me that doing several iterations of an idea can help you find the one that’s most interesting!! 💛
So proud of you for making this!! I also find it super scary filming my sketch process because my sketches look like a kindergartener did them more often than not 🤣 But for what it’s worth, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a sketch of yours that I didn’t like! You’re amazing 🙌
I just found your channel today! This was the video that I desperately needed to watch. I'm definitely jumping in on the imperfect artist community. 😂 I won't even sketch with my husband in the same room. I SO want to be that person who takes a sketchbook outside...or to a coffee shop...or anywhere other than my room! This seriously gave me some confidence that I can get there 🎉 Thank you ❤ here is to allowing ourselves to be vulnerable 🎉
Yayyy I’m so glad you found my channel!! The Imperfect Artist Community is the best place to be imo. 😂💛 I hope you take the leap into sketching outside your room too!! We got this, friend 😁💛
I absolutely love seeing your sketches! They’re really encouraging and inspiring to try to spend more time exploring and learning various things, instead of stressing over trying to make a finished piece every time. Thank you for sharing those with us 💚
This was much needed. Thanks for the honesty! I’m so excited for all the new growth for you and will def be joining the new Patreon tier! Also… when is the workbook coming out?! 👀
Beautiful sketches. I can see that much of the work is done and stored in your brain. You have worked and studied hard, so that all the knowledge can flow out of your pencil. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I really want to see some truly ugly things you've done, because I find it hard to believe, everything I see is beautiful.
Question, but first... Excellent video, @allisonaletha! And being about 40 years older than you, I'm glad to hear you coming to these healthy realizations at this earlier age. Kudos! ...and don't be surprised if you find yourself going full circle with these revelations multiple times in your journey-totally normal. 👍 Now, onto the question: Do you have any book or video recommendations for gesture and anatomy illustration? Did you learn that yourself in school or on your own?
Oh thank you so much Amy!! It's amazing how cyclical these discoveries can be. Learning and forgetting and learning and forgetting again. 😂 "Dynamic Human Anatomy" by Roberto Osti is my GO-TO for learning anatomy!! So gestural, so dynamic, and so much less complicated than many other art books. 💛
Alison, I have gotten pretty decent at drawing portraits, ( I did the 100 faces challenge. Twice 😅) however when it comes to bodies….not so much. Any books that you recommend to help with body proportions, positions and form for a beginner like me?
Wow, you did it TWICE?! That’s incredible!! 💛 Dynamic Human Anatomy by Roberto Osti is a GOLDMINE of anatomy information. It’s helped me improve my anatomy skills so much over the last couple of years!
I love your skethes.they are so lovely. There was one thing in this video I was slightly uncumfortable with and I´m sure I do this myself, without paiing attantion to it. It looks a bit like you would break your finger 😅 But don´t worry, after a while of my brain being all mimimimi, it finally started to quiet down and I was capable of focusing more on the important part of the video. And as always, stunning quallity and a super nice, soothing voice. -^^-

Isn’t it so much fun?! It helps me loosen up SO much and embrace all my little failures with a little more grace 💛

Awww thank you so much!! 💛

Thank you so much!! Bahaha I tend to freak people out with my fingers. 🙈🤣 My joints are hybermobile, and my fingers are PARTICULARLY flexible 😅
What sketchbook and paper do you use? ❤❤❤xxxxxxx
I’m using a strathmore sketchbook in this one! I think it’s just basic drawing paper; relatively thin with a bit of tooth to it 😊
Is this live?
