Merino - Rice - Odegaard... would that be our best midfield?
None would start for City so no
@@MickDarcy Very harsh, but do think they have the better midfield atm
@@MickDarcy I think Rice and Odee would start most games for City? especially since KDB is always injured.
@MickDarcy if that's not our best midfield than what is
@@MrFudge2016 Nketiah Kiwior and Jorginho😂you never know with our coach
Mikel's positionless approach means Rice and Merino will interchange, but neither has Partey's long-passing range. Rice favors safe diagonal passes, while Merino prefers intricate short passes. However, both will thrive alongside Partey if he stays fit, as his vision and passing will complement their skills. Adding Martin Odegaard's creativity, this midfield quartet offers a perfect blend of passing range, vision, and goal-scoring threat, making them a formidable unit.
Lets not make the mistake that Liverpool fans have made with Zubimendi - Merino should sign first before we get hyped about him in the squad.
Don't worry. It's a done deal
U are right
@@sylvesterabiolu1186 Its not done until its done.

I think Merino should add good balance to the midfield. He’s a proper no.8 and will also help the left hand side
when you force the play down the right that also allow you to use the left side as a fast countering side which suits martinelli more. force in the right, --> release in the left.
Release valve type dynamics
I completely agree in theory but it hasn’t really worked for Martinelli for some reason. It’s worked maybe more for Trossard ghosting in at the end of moves?
James, you’ve really be grinding man! Love to see it🙏🏽
Thank you so much! Will continue to!
It's not a coincidence that Arteta insisted on Raya AND tall attackers. He wants to be unpredictable in build up and attack. You can see in pre season already a greater emphasis on long ball to initiate counters or beat a press. It will free up space to allow Rice to operate as the 6. Pressing a team that can kill you over the top is a massive gamble.
Great as always James.
But time has come to address the elephant in the room and push for it until the final day of transfer window.
Bring that difference maker in those vital moments.
Needed!
Appreciate the breakdown, James. Another great video 📹
I think if Merino signs it gives us way more flexibility in attacking options as well especially when combined with Calafiori.
When we’re against teams where we’ll have the ball a lot and can take more risks, Zinczenko can get much more involved in buildup and a midfield overload with Calafiori playing as left-sided CB to provide some reassurance there. This would free up Merino/Rice as the left-sided 8 to either play-in Martenelli or whip in balls with the former (like you mentioned), or take a long shot or two with the latter (who we know can score from 25-30 yards) with some added defensive solidity in case of opposing counterattacks.
If we’re against the very top teams with less possession, then Calafiori and Merino can both still break the lines with their passing and carrying ability and so offer a different, more direct route if needed.
This is all without even mentioning the technical Timber and the opportunities we’ll have with him when fit too! Very exciting times. Fingers-crossed Martenelli finds his confidence again, don’t want him becoming an ineffective shell like Rashford is these days.
Our tactics last year were straightforward to grasp we built from the right and finished on the left now it is balanced with Merino and Calafiori and timber, we can see from Saka headed chance
Its our year next season James i can feel it❤
I was at the Emirates for the Lyon game and I really noticed Raya getting the ball quickly for restarts. Literally gesturing to the ball boys/girls to get the ball to him
Did you notice this in the Wolves game? I'm going to look out for it more
You glowing today James man, looking good going into the new season bro, hoping to see good things! :D
Really kind thank you!! Feeling good and excited for the new season for sure
@@TheGoonerverse mutual feelings man, it's our time to shine eventually let's hope that's this season.
This is quite similar to what naglesman did with kross at the euros he was next right to the center back Dictating play from the back next to the centre back to avoid been pressed easily in the midfield.
I think merino and havertz being used in the L8 helps explain the profile Mikel wants in that position and why Zinny was never put in that spot. Great video James!
Yeah you're absolutely right!
James, you've seen no evidence that Rice is a 6 option next season. Doesn't it suggest that Merino is more of a Rice backup than a starter? Also, doesn't it suggest that we might ask Merino to play 6 given he's more experienced?
Potentially... still think the right balance is Rice at 6 and Merino at 8! Partey might play more than we think though
Here we go Merino today thankyou very much😁
What Application do you use for the tactical board?
hmmm talking about havertz position in the 8-9minute mark got me some hopium for a new striker lol
Brilliant analysis.
Feels like Saka being so good is bad for him, he's been left wide and alone to do his thing, while arteta builds a team around the left to get the best out of maetinelli, havertz and rice even
Alone? Odegaard and White are a great combination with him. Hopefully strengthening left actually takes pressure and workload off him leaving him fresher to contribute even more
Forgive me but I feel like where zinco inverts a lot, the opposition is automatically drawn towards the left hand side. I think Rice was incredible in the 8, so much so that unfortunately the space was on the right. Which is why we were so right side driven. Merino coming in I’m not sure it will change for the better. Partey is better at splitting the line to the 8/10 where as rice looks for saka and martinelli more with cross field balls. I sometimes wonder if merino will end up as the 6, with rice staying as the 8
we need to smash it this season! our team is good enough. don’t need new signings
Rice is so good on the left will he be moved though? Merino could replace partey, because it's basically a double pivot with Rice bombing on
I still think arsenal will be heavily right-side dominant. Because that’s where Odegaard and saka are - it is what it is
Didn’t even realise Merino is left footed! No wonder Arteta wants him lol
Zinchenko's role in pre-season is a glimpse of what Calafiori will do in the season. You can imagine Calafiori Occupying different roles in our setup, he can invert from left back to midfield and the same from CB which allows Gabriel to cover the wide channel. If Merino and Calafiori have a good season, I reckon Arsenal to reach 30/38 games win even without signing any Stricker
This dream was fun while it lasted
All I know is that we’re finally going deep in the Carabao Cup.
Hahaha I hope so!
We played without Saka for a majority of pre-season and when he came on he saw most of the ball.
I wish I could get as excited about Merino as you guys I’ll be honest
He isn't exciting but will be happy to see him come in. If he doesn't its plan b which is more of a gamble whatever it is
@@virupakshawalla5734 Now Frankie de Jong would excite me for sure!!
Not so sure about him coming. Lets see. Could be Eddie in reverse. He can stay or agree to go to someone else like Mudryk did. Hopefully he really does want us and doesn’t sign a new deal so leaving them with real dilemma of losing him for nothing
Hi James why Arsenal go after Omordion he is great young & cheap ‼️ 🙏🙏🙏
Merino is still not a confirmed signing.... the guys from basque are very regional, so until we see a here we go, it's not guaranteed.
whats happening with Fabio? I'm growing impatient with his injury record.
Did we already sighned him lets not be like Liverpool
lets not be like Liverpool and win 19 titles and the CL;...
Is merino even coming James. Why is every one confident about this?
Yet merino isn’t an arsenal player. Hopefully but I’m still skeptical
Calafiori probably here to takeover Gabriel more than LB
We still need a striker
Fabian Ruiz would be better
People saying Merino will unlock Martinelli seems like a diss to Rice. It’s like people are suggesting Martinelli is playing bad cos of the players around him and not the fact that he’s just not that good.
Not saying you are wrong, but he was a beast along side Xhaka. Also last season,he played more defensively to support Zenchenko, and the ball was played mostly to the right. Even Rice wasn't as comfortable Kai,so there was a lot of limitations.
@@Mx19-u3z rice has no creativity as typical for english player. Merino has it in abundance.
@@Mx19-u3z Not saying you are wrong, but he was a beast before Arteta ruined him
Rice isn’t known for his passing, he’s just not that player
Ideally, you want 11 creative players on the pitch. Martinelli is just a direct runner, he needs supplies. He can’t provide the supplies.
Havertz, Rice, Tomiyasu/Kiwior are runners and defensive focused players. They are not creators.
Jesus, Partey, Zinchenko are all great creators.
You really want Arsenal to win the premiership James ? Really our tactics are set up for merino ? And that’s how we gonna win the premiership James ? Merino is a game changer ? Are a bench player rotational player that add depth which one James ?
Why are we talking about Merino? He’s not our player. The deal has stalled again. I normally like your channel. You don’t need the click bait. SMH!
